Will somebody who speaks their language tell these people that species is nearly gone? They may not care, with the way they think and they way they have lived for so long. I wish they could be interested in them and not merely conquering whatever they can catch.
That was kinda sad how it slowly died while all tangled up in their net. It's sad for a creature to have survived in the wild for long enough to get that big, then it's end caused by getting tangled up in some stupid fishing net.
@Astrofish226 I never got to study their vertebrae, and you may get a general idea if you do (it's still debatable how accurate that method is... they can possibly finish a "ring" of growth before or after a year when young or old.. though I believe it is a god start). This is actually more closely related to rays, believe it or not. I've worked with some and they are very interesting. Some have been estimated to live over 100 years, based on when they were placed in aquariums, etc

Does anyone know if vertebrae were collected from this shark? They would very important in understanding the longevity of this species.
