I adore Julian - and I applaud him for his tour and new music. However, one cannot deny that the Strokes had/have (depending on outcomes...) a mojo that just can't be replicated. The Strokes are just full of that magic mojo juice! The Beatles had it too -- it's just hard to define it but I do miss it and it only comes around once in a while and for a very finite time.

As anyone who has played live will probably agree, they looked nervous! The drummer kept the pulse going but unfortunately, he had this "deer caught in the headlights" look. I don't think anything can prepare someone to perform on television. Overall, this wasn't bad. I think the reason Jules looked a little awkward was because we're not used to seeing him with his guard down. I'll take little confidence over too much confidence any day...ahem Kings of Leon (sell-outs).

The worst solo performance I have ever seen him in, like shrapnel to the ears, and I have been a fan of the strokes since the album "Is This It" came out (saw them twice in concert). He has lost the simplicity in which characterized his music/lyrics and now has replaced it with synthesizers and a sound that attempts to cater toward a younger generation, completely disregarding his fans who have followed him for years. I cant wait for the strokes to reunite.

Okay, I figured it out: the first note makes me cringe. Then it gets better. But Jules needs his mic stand, and PUMP UP THE VOLUME! It's very difficult for me to criticize the brain father of the greatest band to exist, but this was only sub-par. Work out the little kinks though and he should be really fabulous, really soon! i feel like most bands that go on shows like this sound worse than they do at their main shows. I think it's probably an issue with acoustics or the way the audio goes through the system... you don't get the effect of accumulation. Anyway, I thought they all sounded great, especially julian! And he has had times where he doesn't sound so good, so you know, this is pretty sweet. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the album! Just a couple more days...!!!
