EVGENI PLUSHENKO is the one who invented the 4-3-2 combinations in figure skating, the only 3 time Olympic gold medalist in skating and the list may go on. He is the greatest skater ever!
What do you mean with artistically? Is Barisnicov (or a classical ballet dancer) less artistic than a pop dancer, just becouse he done less moves? And in any case, he feels music and gives "his" interpretation. You may lake it or not, but he's got his "artisty" .
perfection, though i still think like lambiel is the best because lambiel's footwork and spins and step sequences between the jumps are more musical, better choreographed. plushenko was the rightful winner in turin, lysacek the rightful winner in vancouver, since plushenko was not as clean at this olympic games.
@jzrnsk You think, but we know, the real winner in Vancouver is Plushenko. Evan won with the easy girl program, therefore he was clean. He is stiff, boring, isn't graceful. Sorry, but this is opinion of many peoples all over the world. And you know, the judges works were interesting. Why the judges gave to Evan an underrotated 3Axel +GOE, and Lysa received only a judges warning for a wrong-edged tripla flip, not 2-3 points deduction. Why? Trerefore we said the results was the big fraud!
i know, but plushenko did not look graceful when he jumped. i know lysacek skated an easier program, but plushenko always looked uneasy and unbalanced during his skate. btw, is his 2010 olympic skate on youtube?
@jzrnsk Prohibited by IOC.Llysa won with the more technic points, not with performance marks. Plush has deduction, for 3axel. Evan hasn't deduction for underrotated 3A, and wrong-edged take on his tripla flip! Why? Why?
okay, I didn't know he had done those two mistakes, because it looked perfect. why did plushenko get a deduction? did he underrotate his axel? anyways, in terms of beauty of jumps, lysacek looked cleaner, and I think he paid more attention to his program components, really focusing on a clean, solid performance. though they were graded the same for that section of the skate, I believe lysacek was a cleaner skater and more musical than plushenko. btw, how many axels did lyscek jump?
@jzrnsk : if you do easy jumps it's easy to look clean. But, in any case, the point isn't free program but short. Im my opinion, Plush did it perfectly. Whitout any kind of mistake or imperfection. He should have got 3 or more points more for that...
@verygudveryguud american did not win! Evgeny won! If the rules were complied with, Evgeny would win 4 points more than the liar in short program. THis would give him more than 2 points over the liar. The true winner is Evgeny Plushenko!
@slawayaru yes your right. but i think it is embarrassing, that the judges doesnt vote his quatr... because of this in future men like the amercan do their shit again and again
evgeni was not as clean, though he tried harder jumps. if the figure skating competition were on only jumps, plushenko would win. for execution and musicality and overall flow of the music, lysacek destroyed all others. for beautiful spins, you have to give stephane lambiel the credit.
Plushenko is a genius. He is the author of many elements that are icnluded in modern skating programs including Lysazek's. Plsuehnko's art on the ice is not even slightly comparable to Lysazek's mediocrity. He did not skate for 3 years and he is back and shows incredible talent of a master. He is the king.
plushenko is amazing! i was very disappointed that he lost the gold in vancouver... but then i remembered that he took 3 years off from skating and still skated as well as he did. lysacek cannot compare and especially if you compare the two skaters both in their prime (compare their best performances), lysacek is way worse.
Plushenko is genius! He's changed figure skating. Olympic is to extend human highest quality, not politics. Without those quads, male skaters are worse than female skaters, since the girls are more flexible and artistic.I'm American but I think Plushenko is still the best in 2010, even when he's not at his peak as in 2006. He deserves a gold.
I agree. You know I miss the quads but even moreso I miss the TRIPLE-TRIPLES! Why is it so few men do them, and no ne mentions that, but when a lady does them, it's a big deal? I gotta agree with Plushenko that the sport has taken steps backward. It's not athletic anymore; it hasn't been for several years.
Plushenko will always be the best male figure skater. His name will go down in history. I've been a longtime fan and this long program inspired me. I've been waiting for him to come back out of retirement since Torino and its amazing what he's been able to accomplish after 3 yrs off. But I do feel his l.p. last night was waaay lacking compared to this and other programs. And I felt quite surprised by his lack of grace and sportsmanship when he got 2nd. 2 silves and 1 gold is nuttin to cry about.
@Schmidit First of all his interview wasn't translated correctly. And why is that lack of sportsmanship if he said the truth. The only thing he said is that todays rules don't appreciate more complex jumps and todays winner is unable to perform them.

I watched in Russian and he clearly said that the champion is not a champion if he can't jump quads. The fact he climbed on the gold medal podium was very unsportsmanlike and arrogant, even if he later explained that it was "on an impulse" because he "really thought he got the gold".
Beautiful and exquisite skating here in Torino, however he lacked such determination in Vancouver. He is still an awesome skater!! Lysacek was very charismatic and flawless this time. He (Lysacek) clearly deserved the Gold! Plush is still my favorite skater in the world! I only wished he would of showed a little more grace over his loss to Lysacek.
Evgeniy, you were the best in Torino, you are the best in Vancouver! We still love you, we believe in you! Don't give up, you are the Champion anyway!!!
@darkness, I agree. Plushenko is the best skater in the world, but he underestimated the others. In Torino there wasn't a doubt, because he was trained, focused and he had to get the medal he had missed in Salt Lake. BUT, he is anyway better than the others: Lysacek in not comparable to him. Figure skating was so interesting in the past 10 years only thanks to Plush (and Yagudin of course).

Currently I think Lycasek has better choreography and his program component scores reflect that. Yes, at one time Plush did have the best choreography out there, but he seems to be indifferent to it now.
"Seems to me Lycasek wanted the gold far more than Plushenko."
Did you see the look on Plushenko's face? The look on Lysacek's face? What Lysacek said? What Plushenko said? Clearly, Lysacek would have been just as happy if he had won silver. Plushenko was in in agony during the medal ceremony, and I can't blame him.
I love Plushenko's music selections. They're always so beautiful and nice to listen to. He's the best skater if not the greatest. See you in Sochi in four years.
I liked his skating last night, but it was all up to the judges. Evgeni is a great athelete, but he showed bad sportsmanship. A silver medal is nothing to be ashamed of considering he came out of retirement.
and btw, I'm not here to fight with anyone, sorry if I come off like that. So if you're going to reply, don't try and fight me, I'm simply stating my opinion.
@SvetlanaAvocado what do u mean "Lysacek wanted the gld more than Plushenko" Did u see Plushenko's reaction when he realized he got silver? He stormed right out of the arena, and he had tears in his eyes, and a very disappointed face during the medal ceremony. He wanted this more than anything, and he should have received gold.
Just because he wanted it did not mean he was the best of the night. I was a fan of Plushenko all the way, but not a fan of his long program. It was a disaster for him. He is an extraordinary skater, but his approach was lacking reason. Difficult jumps with shaky landings and nothing else won't cut it. I want to see the Plushenko I loved, the one with personality, artistry, and perhaps a Biellmann ;) from 2004. He sure made history then.
plushenko's program was much more difficult. Quad is not just a little trick like someone here said, it's a very complicated technical element. It was clear that plushenko is the better skater in that competition so as far as I'm concerned he should have won his second olympic gold.
But actually the whole thing is very simple, if he was american he would have got that gold.
Deserves 2nd in Vancouver. He was not the same as in Torino. He was a different skater. He was OFF TRAINING for THREE YEARS. He started getting back into traiining only 8 months ago. If he had been REALLY skating all those 4 years, he would have been the best tonight. But he wasn't. It was HARD WORK that really paid off. A lot changed in years, and if Evgeny thought he could pull off a program weaker than the one in Torino this time for golf, he was wrong. Or whoever sent him here was.
People who were born to skate don't need years to get back on track...people who force themself yes..but not Pluschenko..he is one of the greatest skaters and everything he does comes from the heart. He is natural talent...not a machine which you can train to perfection technicaly..but you can see they are dead inside! He deserves Gold medal..but i am sure he will kick everyones butt next time and show all how it is done!!this is not a last dance!!
Maybe to simply "get back" to skating he doesn't need an year of commitment. But for a GOLD MEDAL, he should have known he needed more than a slack approach to the competition. He seemed to think he had no competition like in Torino. I am sure that if he was training for at least 2 years before Vancouver, he would WIN, hands down. I am a fan of his early programs but I don't have a comment about this lackadaisical appearance. There, he was artistic, extraordinary.. here, he was bored.
Just finished watching mens long program of Vancouver games. IMO, Plushenko should have won. He completed a QUAD in the combination. No other skater did this in either program (short or long). Also, please bring back old scoring system. It was much better and more fair. Here is to Plushenko in next games 'cause you know, he will be there.
no, he deserved what he got...he was a much slower skater this year and even though he did do a quad, his performance was not flawless like evan's was
@stinuccia yeah, but u have to admit that evan received more points on his short program than he should have, and I believe that's what threw everything off. Overall, plushenko should have won.
@2ql4skl2ql4hmwk And I'm assuming you're an olympic judge with years of experience?? I'm not agreeing with you nor am I disagreeing with you. I just find it funny that people think they KNOW who should have won lol.
@cashisking98 It's not like snowboarding where it's all about tricks. It's about performance, grace, (some dance) and quite frankly plushenko deserved silver, certainly not gold.
and of course u would say that, u are an american...are u saying that evan was more graceful or danced better than plusenko? u must be kiddin'...it was unfair, plusenko was way better, and even though he had some flaws in the technical part, the artistic part was beautiful. (keep in mind that i'm not a plusenko fan, i just love skating)
@icegirld actually it has nothing to do with my nationality. I personally don't like Evan, I was just simply watching channel 5 at the time. I'm not taking anything away from Plushenko, I personally believe he's STILL the best figure skater out there, I'm simply saying he did not skate as well as Evan that night. He just seemed off. And it could be because of his off season training, he didn't do it on a regular basis. Plushenko was definitely not better that night.. he lost by OVER a point
I just finished watching the 2010 free program, and though my mother and I were joking about how we couldn't stand this guy cuz he seemed so arrogant, the moment he got on ice it was a different story... I think she put it best that he turns his movements into an art-form, despite that he finished 2nd
This is just so breathtaking. There are only few atheletes I would cheer for in the world other than my country man, Phushenko and Yagudin are the two. Another one is Michael Jordan.
Plushenko is the best in figure skating, he has everything, jumpings, artistry, personality, presence, attitude, charisma, such a confidence, he is beautiful himself, a prince, a king, he makes everything perfect on the ice.
Dude he IS the king. He can't be beat by ordinary means! I have my own countrymen to cheer for in the olympics but seriously... Evgeni is perfect... I mean how can you NOT give him the gold? He totally earned that medal. Probably get another soon.

I thought the artistry and expression was minimal. He nailed the jumps, but skating is so much more than just bombastic jumps. I enjoy skaters like Patrick Chan or Yuna Kim who put their soul and passion and expression into every nuance of the performance. This performance doesn't show that from Plushenko.
I agree with you. Plushenko is an incredible jumper, but between the jumps he has little more than crossovers. And his arms? Posture? He could be so amazing -- best of the best -- if he skated like he meant something by it.
@Phantomwillcullen Currently he IS the best of the best. That's a simple fact and there is no point of arguing about something you don't like in his posture. Personally, he is not my favorite, but he simply doesn't have much of a competition right now.
О как же страшно было смотреть это выступление в прямом эфире! Сердце замирало на каждом его прыжке! А сейчас уже засмотрела так, что каждое движение наизусть знаю :)))
This guy is simply awesome.. even when he makes mistakes looks acceptable..!!! I cant imagine ice skating competitions without his magic, without his passion... Welcome back Evgeny.... that is what I call ICE SKATING..!!!
блин,ребят успокойтесь и порадуйтесь,что в России родились 2 гения фигурного катания.Дай бог,чтоб Жене покорились еще одни Олимпийский игры!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Ignorant: As you seemed so familiar with the Art of figure skating, and so obsessed with Plushenko the Great's programs, could you please enlighten me about the differences of the artistry between Plushenko and another Russian, Alexei Urmanov? Or the similarities between Yagudin's style and Kulik's? Or why Elvis Stojko lost in 1994 winter Olympics? By the way, do you know who we are talking about? Or you'll just say: Who are those thugs? I only need to know Plushenko and he's the best!?
I suppose you'd never admit that Yagudin skates better than Plushenko, I also suppose you never really watched even One program of Yagudin's, not even the "man in the iron mask", the widely-accepted most brilliant LP in the history of skating, the one that beats Plushenko entirely and earns four perfect 6.0s from nine judges. But after all, who cares about Plushenko? As you are such an ignorant, let me enlighten you again: no other man had ever scored more than one 6.0 in Olympics history.
Well, I never said Plushenko is Not a good skater, and as a good skater he Must present art on ice. But the thing is, Yagudin always beats Plushenko on presentation, sometimes even on technical merit, that's why I think Yags skates Better than Plush, who seldom grasps the theme of the music he skates with. Actually I feel sick when I saw his ballet posture in "Godfather" program, not to mention his Beilman Spin... Did I say I've seen all his and Yagudin's programs? Plushenko's style sucks.
I get to know men's figure skating through Plushenko, but only when I find Alexei Yagudin, I realized what is Art.
No doubt Plushenko is also a great skater, but Yagudin elevated the bar to a level unreachable by no one else except Alexei Yagudin! He skates with his heart and his soul, and that's what Plushenko lacks.

I would disagree, I find Evgeny's skating to be just as magnificient if not better. I think though this competition was a dud. If you look at his 2003-2005 programs and even a few before you will see the art.
es extraordinario el mejor del mundo tenia que ser Ruso, no hay nadie mejor que el para ejecutar sus rutinas tan limpias y bellas ojala ,que gane otra medalla de oro. FELICIDADES.
Sadly people miss the artistry and that is what is ruining skating. Is they care about jumps and spins. The new judging system is taking so much, and has ruined the popularity. That used to be popular in the mid-1990s and early 200s. Footwork is awesome and sadly, that is miseed. That is what made skating really popular!
i really don't understand why the people are obsessed with the second 4-toe(solo4)_he prefers 3a-2toe here-this combo brings more points than a solo quad and also safer_the reason why he prefers this combo is not because he can't do 2 quads in each programme but because 1 is already enough with such rivals as Joubert, Lambiel, Buttle, Weir...& you know he is the only 1 who has perfomed 4-3-3 in a competition so far ;)

darknessoftheworld 1 year ago
*gold.
I hope Plushenko is remembered as this charismatic, truly phenomenal skater of Torino than the one we saw tonight.
darknessoftheworld 1 year ago 3
@darknessoftheworld
Annavitalievna1 1 year ago 2
Maybe to simply "get back" to skating he doesn't need an year of commitment. But for a GOLD MEDAL, he should have known he needed more than a slack approach to the competition. He seemed to think he had no competition like in Torino. I am sure that if he was training for at least 2 years before Vancouver, he would WIN, hands down. I am a fan of his early programs but I don't have a comment about this lackadaisical appearance. There, he was artistic, extraordinary.. here, he was bored.
darknessoftheworld 1 year ago
Just finished watching mens long program of Vancouver games. IMO, Plushenko should have won. He completed a QUAD in the combination. No other skater did this in either program (short or long). Also, please bring back old scoring system. It was much better and more fair. Here is to Plushenko in next games 'cause you know, he will be there.
cashisking98 1 year ago 4
no, he deserved what he got...he was a much slower skater this year and even though he did do a quad, his performance was not flawless like evan's was
stinuccia 1 year ago
@stinuccia yeah, but u have to admit that evan received more points on his short program than he should have, and I believe that's what threw everything off. Overall, plushenko should have won.
2ql4skl2ql4hmwk 1 year ago 2
@2ql4skl2ql4hmwk And I'm assuming you're an olympic judge with years of experience?? I'm not agreeing with you nor am I disagreeing with you. I just find it funny that people think they KNOW who should have won lol.
Lib3rateyourmind 1 year ago
@cashisking98 It's not like snowboarding where it's all about tricks. It's about performance, grace, (some dance) and quite frankly plushenko deserved silver, certainly not gold.
Lib3rateyourmind 1 year ago
and of course u would say that, u are an american...are u saying that evan was more graceful or danced better than plusenko? u must be kiddin'...it was unfair, plusenko was way better, and even though he had some flaws in the technical part, the artistic part was beautiful. (keep in mind that i'm not a plusenko fan, i just love skating)
icegirld 1 year ago
@icegirld actually it has nothing to do with my nationality. I personally don't like Evan, I was just simply watching channel 5 at the time. I'm not taking anything away from Plushenko, I personally believe he's STILL the best figure skater out there, I'm simply saying he did not skate as well as Evan that night. He just seemed off. And it could be because of his off season training, he didn't do it on a regular basis. Plushenko was definitely not better that night.. he lost by OVER a point
Lib3rateyourmind 1 year ago
I just finished watching the 2010 free program, and though my mother and I were joking about how we couldn't stand this guy cuz he seemed so arrogant, the moment he got on ice it was a different story... I think she put it best that he turns his movements into an art-form, despite that he finished 2nd
facespaz 1 year ago
This is just so breathtaking. There are only few atheletes I would cheer for in the world other than my country man, Phushenko and Yagudin are the two. Another one is Michael Jordan.
zerosum88 1 year ago
OMG, I love that the russian commentators know when the SHUT UP. The NBC people talk all through the program.
ammerocks 1 year ago 7
Plushenko is the best in figure skating, he has everything, jumpings, artistry, personality, presence, attitude, charisma, such a confidence, he is beautiful himself, a prince, a king, he makes everything perfect on the ice.
meche5850 1 year ago 4
the best ever!
lasol333 1 year ago 2
Dude he IS the king. He can't be beat by ordinary means! I have my own countrymen to cheer for in the olympics but seriously... Evgeni is perfect... I mean how can you NOT give him the gold? He totally earned that medal. Probably get another soon.

I still prefer Yagudin.

Russia's secret weapon. ;) Watch out, Vancouver!

I laugh at people saying Plushenko only jumps, blah, blah, blah...Only because other skaters CANNOT do jumps or combination Evegni does. STFU haters!
cashisking98 1 year ago 8

I thought the artistry and expression was minimal. He nailed the jumps, but skating is so much more than just bombastic jumps. I enjoy skaters like Patrick Chan or Yuna Kim who put their soul and passion and expression into every nuance of the performance. This performance doesn't show that from Plushenko.
1hmm2 1 year ago
I agree with you. Plushenko is an incredible jumper, but between the jumps he has little more than crossovers. And his arms? Posture? He could be so amazing -- best of the best -- if he skated like he meant something by it.
Phantomwillcullen 1 year ago
@Phantomwillcullen Currently he IS the best of the best. That's a simple fact and there is no point of arguing about something you don't like in his posture. Personally, he is not my favorite, but he simply doesn't have much of a competition right now.

I only need to know Plushenko and he's the best!?
aberrantmoon 2 years ago
Yagudin = strong + powerful + real man
pixychina 2 years ago
I suppose you'd never admit that Yagudin skates better than Plushenko, I also suppose you never really watched even One program of Yagudin's, not even the "man in the iron mask", the widely-accepted most brilliant LP in the history of skating, the one that beats Plushenko entirely and earns four perfect 6.0s from nine judges. But after all, who cares about Plushenko? As you are such an ignorant, let me enlighten you again: no other man had ever scored more than one 6.0 in Olympics history.
aberrantmoon 2 years ago 2
Well, I never said Plushenko is Not a good skater, and as a good skater he Must present art on ice. But the thing is, Yagudin always beats Plushenko on presentation, sometimes even on technical merit, that's why I think Yags skates Better than Plush, who seldom grasps the theme of the music he skates with. Actually I feel sick when I saw his ballet posture in "Godfather" program, not to mention his Beilman Spin... Did I say I've seen all his and Yagudin's programs? Plushenko's style sucks.
aberrantmoon 2 years ago
He's the best figure-skater ever!!!
1Nelly2 2 years ago
I get to know men's figure skating through Plushenko, but only when I find Alexei Yagudin, I realized what is Art.
No doubt Plushenko is also a great skater, but Yagudin elevated the bar to a level unreachable by no one else except Alexei Yagudin! He skates with his heart and his soul, and that's what Plushenko lacks.

I would disagree, I find Evgeny's skating to be just as magnificient if not better. I think though this competition was a dud. If you look at his 2003-2005 programs and even a few before you will see the art.

JPPT1974 2 years ago 2
i really don't understand why the people are obsessed with the second 4-toe(solo4)_he prefers 3a-2toe here-this combo brings more points than a solo quad and also safer_the reason why he prefers this combo is not because he can't do 2 quads in each programme but because 1 is already enough with such rivals as Joubert, Lambiel, Buttle, Weir...& you know he is the only 1 who has perfomed 4-3-3 in a competition so far ;)
