What they're doing is a a common mistake referred to as a "rolling stop". Rolling stops are typically caused by laziness and a casual disregard for safety. Sparkie951 is absolutely right, what's going on is illegal.
I c ur concern, if they're not speedin, a yield sign is needed. Today I got a tix for goin around a stopped vehicle on the left. Rt of the vehicle was impossible. As I passed the driver, though he signalled lf, went rt. I got the tix. No double line on the street and w/o a hammer officer proceeded to hav the trial during my stop. Its the same kid of intrusive behavior by police in Roanoke NW. Yet I get my vehilcle stolen and broken into and tools stolen. The profiling isnt working.
As a Police Officer, I can say that you are correct. None of them stopped. But how long after the stop sign was up was this video taken? You cannot expect people to realize something as minor as a stop sign change the first day through. These people, I assume, live there and travel that street everyday. They are accustom to the yield sign being there, if in fact this video was taken only a brief time after the stop sign was in place. If the sign was up for anymore than a week, FINE THEM!!
@studfever The sign was that way a minimum of 3 years, and still today 1 in 10 people stop for it... That includes the police as well (with lights off). If they are truly on emergencies, then our neighborhood needs alot of help.
honestly its a sign why make a big deal out of it. if you cant take the time to stop then you need to clear something up in your life. If you dont wanna stop then dont its only a ticket on your part
I'm not saying this is the case.. but.. you do realize that just because an officer isn't running blue lights doesn't mean he's not on a call, right?? But the fact that this concerns you so greatly is what I find interesting. You have a vehicle parked on the grass which some eco-friendly folk probably find offensive and horrible.. so.. maybe we should be reasonable.
He was NOT on a call, and further more, he made no effort to even slow down until I made contact with him. I saw where he stopped and he was not on a call. This just sets a bad example. If he makes very little effort to stop, why should I???
I am not sure what part of the country you are from, but none of them stopped. They all slowed down, but California style stopping is not permitted in the state of VA.
@NightlightFilms09 Not denying that at all, but for a legal stop sign there has never been a ticket here! A few officiers could really rack up some tickets here. Would be easier pickins than fishing in an overstocked fish tank.
@NightlightFilms09 No I am not elderly. Yielding for a stop sign has never been legal in the state of VA. You must come to a Full and Complete Stop before proceeding. None of them did that They all slowed down, but NONE stopped. It just irritates me that a stop sign is there and does not need to be. My biggest point is to get rid of it. The cops even run it (state police as well as the locals). Make it a yield. That is what it should be.
Hi, I'm actually in the UK but I'm visiting the noke in a few years, it looks nice. The only thing which irritates me though, is the amount of pointless stop signs I have seen on google street view. Here about 95% of signs are yield signs, stop signs are only used for junctions with very poor visibility, in fact at the end of most residential streets, there is actually no sign, just road markings. Stopping is usually more likely to end in a collision, IMO.
I cannot give my exact address, but it is off of Williamson Rd, Same side as the fire station and very close to there (Couple Blocks). Maybe that will help. I was trying to get it changed to a "Yield", but nobody wanted to listen... Therefore, took it to public opinion.
I do not work for the Roanoke City Police Department however I am a police explorer and know many officers - I may be able to bring this up at one of our meetings and show our Sgt. I do not know where this is so I can't help in which zone it would be in, I would try bringing in the video andd talking to the department again. I honestly don't see a need for a stop sign there personally because each time only one vehicle was near the intersection, and you can't turn left. Thats just my opinion.
I have discussed it with the city, and they do not seem to care. Not sure what their issues are but police do not enforce or obey it. If you work for the ROA CIty, PM me and I will get in contact with you.
ROANOKE HAS A LOT OF STOP SIGNS IN MOST REDICULIOUS PLACES. GET A LIFE...

@NightlightFilms09 None of them stopped. They slowed down for most, but the wheels need to be stopped completly. Anything less is simply a yield.

You are of course welcome to work for the city and take care of the situation yourself since you've obviously taken the "high road" on this.
