This movie has no internal logic.

The Russians wanted a fish-man, right? So why is the creature a disfigured, grotesque monster that has no fins or forward axis for swimming?

Why would it be a monster that craves blood? Shouldn't it be a cognizant humanoid who can take orders and communicate?

So, it is a being that can separate and still function (ala the thing), but it seems like the pieces try to combine with other pieces. We get the leg breaking off, spitting out a slug, the slug taking dej

@ghostdog2041 first of all, the fish thing cant just make matter out of thin air, it has to get it from SOMEWHERE, and a human body is not the best source for mutation materials. second, it is in its early stages of mutation, give it 48 hours from the ending and it would have become fully fishman-esq. finally, it likely needs blood because blood is more genetic material, which it can stretch out to fit its needs.

@ghostdog2041 I think the point of the film is precisely that the Russians did not get what they were hoping for. They wanted their "sea man" but they got a terrible sea monster instead. Thus, as the doc suggests, they scuttled their ship to save themselves and the world from the grotesque thing they had unwittingly created.

While I really like this movie, at the same time I find it sobering to realize that geneticists today want to fuck around with DNA just like in this movie.

the leviathan is originally a titan of sorts i think and is said to be the size of a continent and its mouth is literally the gate to hell. it is in intense sleep but when woken is thought to bring the end of the world. i liked this movie but was dissapointed with the monster itself as i was expecting something like what i described. a collosus beast that can swallow islands whole. cool film though.
