  • This is absolutely amazing footwork and dancing.. Wow~ Never even heard of them before seeing this video. I was glued to the screen in utter amazement. VERY NICE post. Thank you

  • My heart goes out to all of the performers (singers and dancers) of both Tammi Terrell's and The fantastic Whitey lindy hop dancers from the 1941 film 'Hellzapoppin' eras for the way they were treated by American society at large. Their talent and hard work were nothing short of INCREDIBLE. And if America had been more progressive at the time, more people would have appreciated all of them.

  • THE FIRST MOTOWN SONG I BOUGHT

  • @surfamurfa You must be around the same age as me then? God I wish I had Met this chick (Tammy) back in da day.Come back and give us one more song together Marvin/Tammy.

  • 6 people can't have a two person party

  • We as a black race have had so much talent that was over looked and the sad part of it today we can make a different now but the talent out there now is better than before but they use it in the wrong way I think. These old dancers and stars now paved the road for todays talent and they dont even see it or respect it.

  • @overstreet42 Couldn't agree more my friend. I wonder what Martin Luther King would say about all the black rappper-men driviing shiny cars, Uzi in the back and slapping theiir bitches upside their head? What was the black civil rights struggle all for? The trouble is this culture has now infiltrated many other countries like the UK where blacks and whites alike adopt this mentality going around like idiots. What a waste.

  • it is so sad but black entertainers were just robbed by white america. Don't get it twisted Fred, Ginger, and the whole lot watched these clips and learned from the best. it would have been fine if they gave credit where it was due shame shame shame

  • @AishaBoothHorton I agree. It is a well known fact that white people looked at black culture to get their ideas. They did not akcnowledge it. Even Elvis stole from black culture. Madonna is still stealing ideas from cultures and acting as if she invented them.

  • I'm not saying that there aren't good dancers out there, but why is so much of the dross we see in the media these days presented as Top notch?

Haven't a clue....So out of touch with the old, and the best :-) Steve

  • Eat your hearts out, Dancing with the Stars. watch and learn.

  • absolutely blown away ,love it ,love it, love it! Legends .how funny and talented fills you with happiness ,hope our love and adoration is felt by even those stars who sadly never really had their day . Thanks also docludi for this post . Gail

  • Just stunning

  • These dancers are awesome and the reason why they never became celebrity was because of racism in America during that time. Even when Motown was becoming huge, they had white dancers to dance in the live performances of the likes of Martha Reeves and The Vandellas and The Supremes, etc. Thanks for this post, docludi

  • One of the best singers Motown never promoted properly. Of course the brain tumor also messed things up unfortunately. Shame. Love the footage!!!

  • Great dancing, excellent video, thanks..

  • best dance I ever seen

  • Holy crap, 1:14 to 1:22 seems to be breaking a few laws of physics!

  • why did they not get reconized as talented dancers they were, brilliant

  • LOVING your work! Thank you xx

  • wow

this the best , so you think you can dance has nothing on these dancers.

i am sure this is the stuff that will never go out of style

    pl

    thank you for posting this.

  • now thats danceing cant nobody can say they can dance until they can do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @12ansel haha plus no one knows about this much so i mite can duplicate it and a lot of people will think i originate it, lol

  • "what can i say"!!!!

  • Great record and superb dance choreography, a brilliant upload as it shows the younger generation of entertainment of the era.

I agree with cleverfeller's comments, however, now this footage is on youtube there are nearly a 128,000 views. They will now be remembered and copied for a younger generation.

  • dancing / song = epic

  • All I can say is WOW!!! I'm speechless. I didn't know dance groups existed back then with so much talent, energy and precision. It makes me so proud but I just wished they'd gotten the recognition they deserve. If they have, then obviously disregard my comment. Thank you.

  • Man, this is so sweet.

  • Great pairing with the Hellzapoppin' clip. The clip feels a lot lighter/happy-funlovin' than with the original Lindy music. Brings a smile to my face :)

  • I love this type of dance!!! So much energy...so much fun!!!

  • Where do u think Fred Astaire got those steps. He spoke of going to the black clubs and getting ideas. It wasn't natural for him like these talented people. Fred use to practice so ling that Ginger rogers feet use to bleed. Look at nthe energy and beautiful bodies of the dancers. That's what young people in America were before geedy business started putting all that crap in our food sources. Now our childern look and move just like those steroid animals and chemical plants they feed us.

  • was ben-gay already invented ?

  • MINT.

  • That must be the best dancing I've ever seen. The combination of the dance and the track is unreal - any more information about this would be very welcome

  • Oh my goodness that was sooooooo incredible. My good heaven. What talent, skill, and gifting. WOW! i am winded just laying on my couch watching. LOLOL We were soooo robbed of compensation (financially & recognition wise) soooo sad.

  • @1024SueNelson but they DID get recognition. They're in this film aren't they?

  • @auaiao9 If they were white they would have been plastered all over the place, give a darn break. People of color always have to settle for whatever little crumbs is thrown their way. They gave their best and were robbed, you know, the usual outcome. PLEASE!

  • @suenelson1024

Very sad but true. Still we have the film, so they are immortal.

  • Brilliant - have you ever seen people having so much fun just dancing before?

Oh yes, and let's not forget Tammi's excellent singing voice along the way too!

  • This is great, Tammi is so underated.

  • This is great, Tammy is so underated.

  • amazingly beautiful.

  • I love this song, and I wish I could dance like that to it...

  • When I think of how famous Fred Astair, Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly were, it is a crying shame that these guys weren't much more famous.....they are definitley much more talented.

  • @cleverfeller Not in this life or this world, as long as those who own and run it, always have run it, always will. These GREAT talents ARE famous to those of us who they mean something to. THIEVES run our society then and now, thieves is what they are and will remain, THIEVES!

  • @cleverfeller I was just thinking the same thing! I've just now seen these dancers! Brought tears to my eyes!

  • @cleverfeller My word they were. They are fantastic. I think Fred didn't have the strength lol. These guys have Ballet dancer strength and physiques. I think in terms of straight up ball room dancing Ginger and Fred were still king. But well. This takes dancing to another dimension. Brilliant. Great you put it up.

  • @cleverfeller helllllllllllllllllllllllllllll YYYYYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were the best at dancing, this will put american dance crew to shame

  • @cleverfeller Definitely!

  • @cleverfeller FANTATIC DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND MORE OF THIS DANCING

  • The saddest thing about this is that all these incredibly talented people are now gone.....and I never knew a thing about them until I saw this. They should have been mega-stars.

  • @cleverfeller that is well said.. I gues we will never know baut the video as to live... Thats the best vid of this song...

  • @cleverfeller The historical thieves of our world stole credit, info, talent as has been done DOWN through the years. We have to either search or accidentally run into GREATNESS such as this to know it ever existed. SAD huh?

  • @cleverfeller I said the same thing, about them not getting the fame they earned and I received a strange reply that said, "at least they are on here." Some good being on here is doing them, when most are deceased beside one dancer. They cant even hear the praise and honor we are paying them. They WERE supposed to be as famous as Doris Day and Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers, BACK THEM. But, of course, they were NOT. SAD!

  • @cleverfeller Now we've lost another legend. Ms. Teena Marie. Gone but never forgotten.

  • @cleverfeller You ain't got time to be a mega-star poser while ya havin all that fun !

  • @cleverfeller Or.. you could look at it another way. Isn't it great that these "talented people" enjoyed life reached their potential and left us with great memories.

  • They are not all dead, Norma Miller is still well and truly alive, Frankie only died very recently too, I have had the privellidge of meeting and knowing both of them ( a little) AMAZING PEOPLE

  • @cleverfeller

Totally agree. These people were FANTASTIC and never got the recognition or opportunities they deserved. This is such a wonderful song and video. These people were so talented. I love the song as well. Tammi sounds great. PLEASE DONT EVER take this video down!

  • what has happened to black to people?

  • amazing, thanks for posting:)

  • great song great voice

  • WOW, WOW, JUST WOW! Now THAT IS DANCIN' 2 THE FULLEST!

  • You wont see dancing like this again EVER

  • First time I've seen this, Thats just Brilliant.

I'm just getting into Tammi and that was a real bonus.

  • cleverkim, thanks for the info, people need to know this stuff

  • I do not know the sexual behavior of Paris but she is the boss- whether that means we are more explicit or more conservative- she's the boss. If she wants the G2, she gets the G2- If she wants the G4, she gets the G4- but not the G6- I refuse to a be a Samson- Phan is in charge of all house rules concerning Love, Sex, and Marriage.

  • Looks insanely fun!

  • WOW!!!!

  • Now THATS dancing thanks

  • i loveee tammi

  • the best dancersw I have ever seen.

  • havin a party listenin 2 it love it!

  • This song here was released on the Tamla(Motown)label as Tamla 54161 in November 1967

  • This makes So You Think You Can Dance look like a pile of puke.

  • Go babe, go, !!!!!!!!

  • Tammi Terrell always been a favourite and this dancing is brill...juyst cannot stop playing it.

  • This dance that you saw will no be repeated in a 100 years, Awesome dance.

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

  • ...two can need a chiropractor, from the looks of it.

  • dats was crazy hot, doin it up way back when.

  • About 1:03 to about 1:08.

  • Thanks for the info. Do you have any contact details for Norma Miller? If so I think there may be countless emails coming her way. Has this kind of thing ever been bettered since?

  • sooooooooooo funny :)))))

    thanks a lot for post,

    god music and nice dancer

  • What is the real music to this vid and how can I see the original one. Looks like the 30's to me

  • @merseybee Very interesting, thanks for the information.

  • @merseybee. Good question. Are you from Liverpool? I spent time working in Liverpool, I was a Plessey man and went to the She Club. This film is called, 'Hellzapoppin' it's great youcan get it off the internet. Beware though, many versions of the DVD are slightly speeded up which takes about four or five minutes off the running time.

  • was plessey in edge lane?

  • @eggzy43 Yes sure, that's right Edge Lane and I have many happy memories of being there. In the canteen at Edge Lane a girl used to come in called Irene and I can tell you she was dynamite - I always regretted not talking to her. Also went on a 26 week TXE4 telephone exchange training course at Plessey's Huyton centre. Mersyside and Wirral people are top people. All the best.

  • One of the BEST dance clips . . . but why not keep the original music ?? S'much better !

  • pretty cool ^^

  • Thats what you call dancing!!! complemented by the sweetest voice of Tammi Terrell......Ooooh moonriver!

  • OMG this video look slike it has been speeded up, its so fast. I can only dream of dancing like that! Looks like fabulous, high octane fun!

  • That's Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in the movie Hellzapoppin. They were a dance troup from the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. The fella in the overalls is Frankie Manning. He choreographed this piece. Frankie just passed away this spring one month short of his 95th birthday. Thousands of dancers from around the world came to NYC to memorialize him. The only surviving member is Norma Miller, she's the one dancing with the chef. Believe it or not, people all around the world are still dancing LIndy Hop.

  • An interesting and greatly informative comment. Thank you.
