I loved this movie back in the 80's on Betamax video, i'm 40 now and recently got it on dvd and it's still one of my fav movies of all time. "if you're lying...i'll be back" classic.
I saw this at the Prospect theater in The Bronx with Scalpel as the co-feature back in September 1980. Then I saw it again at the same theater as a co-feature to An Eye For An Eye starring Chuck Norris.
I remember seeing this on an old blank tape that i watched regularly because it had Predator on it back when i was a kid. Right after Predator ended this just started up, however it was recorded 10 min. into the flick, i missed the way beginning. Kick ass movie though :)
This movie was terrible aside from like, 2 good scenes one of the being the opening. No plot, no one to give a shit about, bad direction (especially the editing) and Cristopher George plays the worst cop in movie history (not acting wise but character wise, did he ever do any work? he just nailed that one chick and heard about the exterminator for the whole movie). Even for exploitation this movie was lame.
the one scene i remember well is the infamous "chicken boy" sequence where ginty does a raid on a brothel for perverts who like young boys,he kicks the door to one room open and theirs a fat guy in a towel with a nude boy tied down with his mouth gagged
@j2822jy you know what! being black myself, the way he said it was fucking hilarious! and when he goes "we didnt hurt you" i swear he really is shitting himself.
This movie was actually not that bad, and surprisingly good. We aren't talking academy award, and Death Wish it wasn't, but it was a Death Wish type movie. I liked it anyway, which is all that matters really.
There's an excellent beheading sequence in this flick, surprisingly realistic for the time the movie was made.I just picked up the uncut version on DVD after I heard Robert Ginty had passed away, very sad news.
Just read your comment and didnt even know that Robert Ginty had passed away.. Been a fan of The Exterminator for over 20 years and first remember watching bits of it about '84 time. I was only 8 then.. the same time I accidently saw another memorable decapitation scene in The Omen! Scared me for years!
I thought that this movie was gonna bring the concept of the Flamethrower Man, but NOOO!
He only use the flamethrower once just to burn one bad guy that is tied to a chain. Also there isn't to much action is more like shooting a couple of bad guys one at the time after many blah!blah!blah! scenes.
P.S: If you want to see a movie like this then Death Wish is MUCH BETTER.
i know mann its pissing me off.....i saw in the video store i work at we had a used version of the film for like 7 bucks, and me being a dumbass kept it on hold for too long and they put it back in the aisle! such a classic film
From what I remember about this movie besides the brilliance of Robert Ginty is the song they use during the opening credits-it gave this movie a different feel right off the bat-not using it in the trailer was a mistake. There are some great shots of gritty '80's New York in this classic.
THIS is what Death Wish should have been. Someone OUT-Canoned Canon films. Robert Ginty was awesome in Paper Chase. Somewhere between Anthony Edwards and Mike Ferral... Robert Ginty.
One of my favorite movies all time. Must have seen this movie 10 like times. Just got The Exterminator (Director's Cut) on DVD. I also like Exterminator 2. Hopefully part 2 will be released on DVD.
this one of my top five vids love it this and class of 1984 the warriors bad boys (sean penn) and christiane f , early 80s gritty movies they dont get any better
The music does not really fit, it makes it sound as if this was a slasher movie instead of an agressor movie (agressor is a term from a detective story anthology referring to the fictional veterans who engaged in War Against the Mafia and served as Gangland's Doom).
It's CHE Time!

Is it just me, or is this film supposed to be "The Punisher", only the producers didn't want to pay Marvel?

This movie was supposed to be The Executioner wich is the comic book that Punisher is based off :P

I think Robert Ginty was a vastly underrated actor. For him to do this and something comedic like the father in Loverboy. A real loss :(
