@tesoritopr i work at a plant and it's amazing how expensive pressure vessels and their components can be. 1 tungsten carbide valves replacement parts can be $60,000. New seals for a pump? $16,000. You can't use your moms pressure cooker to generate the steam pressure required to run those turbines.

@tesoritopr "Shutting down" for a nuclear power plant meant it will be maintained and taken care of for additional 40 -50 years without power surplus and then spent fuel will be placed in secure location for another 1000 years. All of these cost a lot of money, especially spent fuel storage.
