  • great! i love this song

  • THE MOST BIBLICAL FALSE PROPHET

  • Good god he's amazing. Dig Lazurus Dig took me a while to get it, but man...Once I did...wow.

  • am I that old? It only seems like yesterday we both were stoned at the house down the road from the ''Prince of Wales Hotel '' in Melbourne all those years ago...if only my kids knew!!!!

  • Cave !!!

  • Don't disturb me when I sleep even though your body aches...

  • This is The Doors that survived, The Cooler Doors, the soul of music.

  • Nick Cave is so brilliant it's painful. Beautiful beautiful stuff...

  • That's not Mick Harvey, is it?

  • Don't diss Warren Ellis shitheads

  • Anyone that doesn't dig this song just doesn't get it. You will never be as cool as Nick Cave so crawl back into your hole.

  • @shatchett0 Dirty Three is good. But irrelevant to Einsturzende Neubauten. :-)

  • He ain't cool; he's a fool.

  • bring Blixa back and kick out this RAsputin look alike. Blixa also just sqeeked and sqacked on his guitar, but had so much more style in doing it. This is just anoying.

  • @cikaiga You need to check out Dirty Three. Indian Love Song. Good shit.

  • Nick cave and the bad seeds AKA Mustache and the Beards

  • mmm... 6 people are deaf...

    great stuff..!!!

  • nick is god!

  • This video does not contain enough facial hair!

  • these dudes are cool, but guitarist with beird looks like something you would see if you were cruising threw a graveyard at night on lsd lol

  • the guy on the shakers is spectacular

  • King Nick and his Merciless Henchmen Rule Rock.

  • hells teeth can't help but wish I'd penned this masterpiece x

  • They played this at Glastonbury and I've had it on repeat ever since......

  • The drummer dropped the stick purposely or accidentally.

  • this one is hammer

  • wow!!! Something quite out of the ordinary for something quite extraordinary.

  • strangely him, and the general sound reminds me of the doors,...

  • sooooo bad ass

  • I love this song, but the singing kinda sucks on this recording

  • wrong

  • i read about this "amazing" song in a music blog.....but i don't know.....i'm not really a fan......maybe it's just me....seems like it'd be fun live, but i'm just not diggin it.

  • sarahkfisher, type in the search engine: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Midnight Man (Jools Holland) for an awesome live stage performance

  • This album is the best I've ever heard and will always be one of my favorites. I hope they put out another album soon and it's of the quality.

  • Still wanna fuck this guy! Damn he's hot!

  • me too, me too

  • i wanna fuck him, an im a hetrosexual male! :)

  • This song is great on its own; but, it is even better when you listen to the album in sequence. Great sequencing on the album - - - probably a lost art in the digital age. This song (as the 10th of 11th songs) is the climax of the album.

  • i would agree with you- sequencing is a lost art now where albums are just collections of just one lightweight bubblegum pop piece of crap after the other- check out the new super furry animals album and a lot of their albums in fact- sequencing at its best

  • nevermind, i downloaded the whole album ;)

10 month ago i even would have bought it at this point, because i listened like 50 times to it and it is worth more than money - right now i am just happy that no money doesn't mean no culture... :P

  • Cull 'em out...the ones who doubt...

  • unbelieveble sound also on studio and live, One of the greats of the independent music.

  • psychedelic sound, imho, like 13th Floor Elevators

  • Perfection.

  • Awsm.

  • think about it, theyre aged from late 40's to early fifties, look like hobo's and hit men

yet still deliver a heart pounding live show and sell truck-loads of albums, and not an image consultant or "hype generator" in site. Thank F@#k for the Bad Seed's

  • uniqe..

  • A really great piece

  • real pro's doing what they do best.

one of the best live performances i've EVER seen.

  • go away

  • Nick Cave is god. He is way beyond cool - he is the soul.

  • @bmacnaughton i could not agree more!!!!!!!!!

  • If anyone ever asks "what does it mean to be cool" they need look no further than Nick Cave.

  • Nick and Warren who just oozes it, that fucking beard and his talent helps.

  • @drapesy22

There are Saints and then there is Nick.... Cave

  • :)!:)!:)!:)!:)

  • This isn't live. ffs.

  • I've seen them 6 times and they get better every time. love this album.Didn't really like Lotus Eaters until i heard it live, thought it didn't fit with the rest of the album; i was wrong. Album of the year.

  • just reading a copy of "the Ass and the Angel" at this moment. Mucked up language ... any readers ou there right now?

  • I've read it. It's fantastic.

He has a sonic, lyrical tone just like Cormac McCarthy.

  • What do you think?

  • Oh, fuck. That Fender Mandocaster sends chills down my spine... Sooooo good... So filthy, so distorted, but I love it! Go Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds!

  • I want to know how he sets that sucker up. I suspect it gets out through a Fender amp, but the sound he gets is so loud and abrasive for a mandolin that I think there must be something else involved.

  • it's a mandocaster, not a normal mandolin - thats why its sounds sound bright and strong -it's part mandolin part mini strat! plus -bear in mind the noise warren can get out of a violin . He doesnt use a fender amp -goes for little mesa boogies and the like.

  • I'm not sure if you wrote this comment in this tone because you thought I was retarded or what.

Obviously, I know it's not a normal mandolin. But look at some of the other videos of Mandocasters on here and compare the sound. I think Ellis actually puts it through Hiwatt amps (at least on the last tour).

The violin noise I'm more familiar with because I actually play violin. Warren often uses simple distortion, occassionally screeching the bow agaisnt the string on purpose.

  • Absolutley love this song.

Trying to learn it now on the guitar.

    Quality.

  • beautiful song.......the best from the album!!!!!

  • This song grew on me incredibly. When you first listen the album the songs that really stand out are Dig Lazarus Dig, Today's Lesson and Albert Goes West, but the more I listen the album, the more I begin to appreciate Jesus of the Moon, Midnight Man and Night of the Lotus Eaters.

By the way, I want a music video of Today's Lesson!

  • yea i agree.warren ellis makes me not miss blixa so much

  • Warren - Warren - Warren - Warren !!!!

  • jesus.... i thought the lyre of orpheus was the best song cave did, now i'm not too sure...

  • A genuine musician, and performance artist!!! So sexy too! Love you Nick and The Bad Seeds -- you guys really know how to move a girl and ROCK!!! Yeah!

  • I'd come see you every night if I could.. being a groupie for you would be an honour!! Saw you at an intimate venue in Toronto and you lived up to way beyond my expectations!!! I use to be a Tom Waits fan... but your passion and creativity has raised the bar!! xoxo

  • I love nick cave and i am 17 boy:) My fav band is KoRn,Adema,Linkin Park, but Nick Cave is a true musician too.

  • legend

  • i called you once, i called you twice ain't i your midnight man!!!

    love it

  • That's because you are under 30, Sorry if that sounds harsh but this guy is a classic for those who can appreciate his art.

    THIS ROCKS!!!

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS KALA XRISTOUGENNA

  • I really love this song. Saw them perform it in Seattle a few months ago. Awesome show!

  • "Rocks like a bastard"

  • I'd like him to be both. Yes I know I'm sick;)

  • Can't decice wether I'd like him to be my father or my lover. Great song, great artist, great music, simply amazing!

  • Great song. Lazarus is a fine album. I'm liking the black and white aswell, helps give that classic feel.

  • What are those tiny guitars that Warren plays on the new tour, elec mandolins?

  • He's listed on the album as playing both a tenor guitar, and a Fender Mandocaster.

  • sounds like a wicked cover of a 60s classic soul hit...

  • NICE! I love this song! I love to see them doing their thing! Such Brilliant artists!

  • An ever present third part slipping from character to observer/narrator and vice-versa, as well as slipping from some dreamy world (this?) into a deeper (freer?) dream. Enduring frailty, if such thing exists. Suspended change. Sexy feeling in it. Great song, as always. Driving our imagination toward places, and sights, and sensations.

  • wicked guitar

  • ギター短!

  • nicks touring this november, got me self a brace of tickets, cant fucking wait, got a hard on just thinking about it :))

  • This song is class.

  • We need change!

  • X-cool

  • Dream gig: Nick Cave and Tom Waits.

  • That would be a proformance for the world to admire and stand in awe of.

  • Fuck the Arctic Monkeys!

    Fuck the Killers!

NICK CAVE HAS THE REAL STUFF!

    Album of the year.

  • ...Mr. Nick Cave is getting older and older and he's better and better !!!

  • The songs from this album just keep getting better and better each time I listen to the record. I think this might be the album of the year.

  • fuckin a you are right. this album is so goddamn good.

  • FUCK I love this song.

  • "you spread yourself like a penitnet on the mad vibrating sand"

    Love that line!

  • 'Everybody's coming around to my place'. Catch cry for Cory!

  • i think it's the best song of dig lazarus dig.

  • I'm in love with this clip.

Their is just something to it I can't put my finger on!

  • i adore the new album, but i don't think that Midnight Man is the best song to be released like a single... but however it's great to recieve new video and new single from Nick!!! %B

  • Nick on top form again!I'm looking forwards to Grinderman at Latitude next weekend. :)

  • ohho cave the beast is stil allive...he is just him and that s why he s so good and maybe the best alternative singer on the planet but in this song is music and melodie main thing...but awcorst without him it wouldn t be the same so i said what i wanted to say and im so happy now cause im so smart and clever....

  • Gooood!!!

  • I'm so turned on.

  • i discovered Nick and the Bad Seeds about 14 years ago...

    I LOVE THEM>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • pure genious :) discovered him and the bad seeds about 3 years ago and since then i cought up on all his old albums. even got to see him live in dublin castle (brilliant performance).

  • I've had the pleasure of seeing the Caver & the Bad Seeds a number of times - Toronto has a good music scene and he's always great. Tons of energy & that's really what this comment is about. He's still rocking and I think he might be rocking better & louder than 20 years ago, when I first saw him. I'm proud to be a fan!

    The Persistant One in TO

  • who's that Rasputin guy? and why Thomas ain't on drums? confusing but great video!:D

  • Rasputin is none other than Warren Ellis and Jim Sclavunos should be on the drums if everything is alright... ;-) Thomas Wydler is seen playing percussion if you look closely...

  • hahah.. incredible, i swear i wouldn't have recognized Warren! and yeah i did notice Thomas but still wondering why oh why. :P

  • mr. ellis has been playing violin for the bad seeds for many, many years now. he just took on the 'miniature guitar' called the mandocaster. the beard he's sportin' has evolved since the conception of grinderman. as for as mr. wydler is concerned, both he, and mr. sclavunos have been switching it up for some time as well...at least as far back as murder ballads. i've had the pleasure of meeting and 'hanging out' with them on a few occassions. lucky me!

  • amazing:) how are they?

  • they are lovely men...they are the utmost of gentlemen. mr. harvey is the sweetest of all. i have been smitten by the bad seeds for many, many years...and many more to come. can't wait til october when they come back nyc.

  • great! thanks for the post

  • So this year will be 20 years that I have now been listening to Nick Cave and finally I will get to see him live and what a better time than in my hometown and on my birthday. September 16th in San Diego can not come fast enough.

  • Lucky You! Have a great one :)

  • I am still hoping for a videos to "Jesus Of The Moon", "Hold On To Yourself" and/or "We Call Upon The Author To Explain"! :)

  • Yeah I love those songs- I wonder though whether he would make a 'Jesus of the Moon'Video since it's so full of imagery already? Anyway that would be amazing since it's one of my faves ever...

  • looks like a fun studio

  • top vid - lol @ jimmy losing his stick at the end there :p
