Every so often, I come back and watch this video again. G'Kar and Andreas was by far, the most interesting and complex character on any show that I've watched. Definitely missed.
Makes me cry, and miss him so much. I LOVED G'Kar and B5 with a passion that will never end. Andreas was incredible, and itg makes me feel so sad and wish that I was still back there when B5 was still on.
Many actors say that they love acting and I believe them. But I also believe that no one has ever loved acting more than Andy. When you look at the sincerity and passion of his performances you can feel the love in every word he said. RIP Andreas Katsulas.
De tous, le plus emblématique des personnages de cette fabuleuse série. Une grande perte saluée ici par un extraordinaire montage. Félicitation et merci !
My favourite character "G'Kar" of any Sci-Fi show and Katsulas played him amazingly well, in my view there will never be any other actor/character to match his biblical presence on the screen for any new show to come. I am now going to re-watch the entire B5 series to absorb the wonderful wisdom that is G'Kar
he was a awesome artist, the way his character evolved in B5 was a very good work. i watched ST: TNG once more again and discovered him on several roles there (i.e. romulan). after looking up on wiki i noticed he died and it is truely a loss. rest in peace G´Kar, wise man.
His ability to bring such gravitas, emotion and elicit such feelings in us as viewers, when he was restricted by costume and makeup like this, is a testament to his amazing acting talents.
An inspiration that can be drawn upon even after his death. Would that we could all say the same when we are gone and released from this mortal coil. Andreas Katsulas you will not be forgotten and we could not even if we tried.
After Babylon 5 I was really looking forward to seeing more of Katsulas no matter the role and his voice acting was the sole reason I bought that PS2 game Primal,he was as good as allways in his role.
Just today I had a conversation about B5 and when I told my class mate that Katsulas was dead,he was shocked,as if he had seen his own death,my own reaction was the same when I first heard of his death.
If Babylon 5 hadn't been a sci-fi show, Katsulas (Jurassic too) would have snagged an Emmy. All the characters on B5 had arcs, but G'Kar was the soul of the station, and the one who learned the greatest lesson of all. Katsulas wasn't a typically good looking man so it's probably fitting that he was at his most romantic and heroic under all that makeup.
Katsulas was a magnificent actor, and his acting is something that I've incorporated into my life, personally and professionally. The man was a miracle, and he will be so sorely missed.
Andreas Katsulas played one of the BEST characters ever written. If G'kar was played by someone else, he wouldn't have the certain spark that Andreas Katsulas brought to him
In early 2005, Andreas was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer; he passed away a year later, in Los Angeles. He had lived there since 1986, and had hoped to return to working in the theater before his far-too-early death, just over three months shy of his 60th birthday.
Executive Decision, Star Trek Next Generation and tons of other Tv episodes and movies. Babylon 5 was just one of his last works but it gave more people a chance to see what a wonderful actor he was. Trying to explain this to some people is like having a one armed man be a boxer..
Fro m the very beginning, JMS didn't care about the money - he said so in the commentaries (DVD) and in the fact that by the 4th movie when he was offered more money for the effects, he turned it down. It's all in the storyline for JMS.
Thank you for making and Posting this. It made me tear up. I only have one suggestion. The Moments of Transition Speach would have made it even more awesome (if that is possible).
The real life loss of G'Kar and Dr Stephen Franklin ripped the heart out of B5. It can never me re-made without these great actors. Both were so truly believable in their roles.
This always makes me think on my life. Especially the part when he says go any where in this station...you will here the echos of conversations past. 1:50 to 2:05. This was a wonderful video and it makes me cry all the time.
just an absolute star in every way... by far the strongest and most imfluential charactor of the show in my opinion. for me he was the one i could most relate to. his story so much like the story of scottish history and strugle, i found myself sympathetic to g'kar from the very start of this great show
I always though G'Kar's character and the evolution of the character from villain into paragon was an interesting one and one I've not seen many other places
The character of G'Kar became what we should all be. If every man, woman and child exercised the awesome spiritualism G'Kar did, along with the wisdom, oh what a magnificent society we'd have! God would be proud!
Andreas was perfect as G'Kar. He had the voice that made you sit and listen, even when G'Kar wasn't such a nice little Narn. It's unfortunate he's not around anymore, but it makes us treasure what he's left behind that much more. In Andreas' accomplishments, God should be proud.
I love also 0:20 - O:25, the close-up of G'Kar's eyes. It gives one a sense of mortality, hope and despair. Just that one expression tells more about G'Kar than any words could convey.

Jonathan Brandis wasn't particularly noteworthy in my book. Sure, he starred in movies like Never Ending Story and the series Sea Quest, but to hang yourself upstairs while your friends are waiting for you downstairs takes away special meaning to any remembrance to him.

thanks for this tribute. andreas was a great actor, g'kar a great sci-fi character. remember when i heard he'd died, so saddened. same with richard biggs. b5 was & still is my all-time favourite show. jms revolusionised u.s. tv. make more lost tales joe!
Amazing how hearing about people die on the news every night hasn't any effect on you, but hearing the death of someone you loved in a television show cuts you up. I suppose it's like losing part of your childhood.
Well, I am not used to hear that people died every night on the news (I'm not from America. No offence. Just stating.)
I think, in the case of Andreas, it is like loosing a teacher. While we saw him develop throughout the series, we ourselves developed along with him. And that made him a part of our lives, in contrast to the people on the news.
It's amazing how one can grow attached to a non-existent person. Well, in the matter of reality, I think, what we form in our thoughts exists (at least for us) and so, G'Kar exists. ;-)
G'Kar is definitely one of my favorites, and it made me very sad to learn he died. More importantly, it was Andreas' voice and ability to give such amazing orations as G'Kar that made me enjoy him the most of the characters.
He is definitely missed by so many, for we cannot hear his powerful and moving voice anymore.
A master Thespian, indeed. His acting and speeches were amongst the best that anyone could offer. I love his characterisation of G'kar in B5 and Scree in Primal. This is a guy I would have loved to have met and will always miss.
It is sad that we have lost such great talent and wonderful people. Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) and also Tim Choate (Zathras) Rest Easy Friends, you will be missed.
"The flame reminds that life is precious, as each flame is unique. When it goes out, it is gone forever. And there will never be another quite like it." -Delenn
goddamn i didn't realise he was gone, such a shame, a great loss. He had such a fantastic voice, and the dynamic between him and Londo was purely amazing, i think i simply must go back and watch b5 all over again, thanks for posting !
Using the theme from "Dragonheart" was inspired, considering how that film ended. One of the most moving scores I've heard. I think Andreas Katsulas would have also made a great voice for Draco, perhaps even better than Sean Connery's
Andreas - I dont think he ever realised just how much he was loved. Gone beyond the rim, but never forgotten. Video - it makes me cry, even now. Well done.
Spine-tingling and moving...using nothing more than majestic background music, Andreas' own magnificent voice and his dialogue from the show. Whoever made this deserves a medal...and so do you for sharing it with us.
As G'Kar, as Tomalak, as any one of a hundred characters he played -- and as the wonderful real person he was in his off-camera appearances, one of which I was privileged to attend -- Andreas will always be with us...in recordings and in our hearts.
Babylon 5 lost 2 great characters in it's history. We cherish them by watching the DVD's and the movies to see them and how special they are to us. Farewell my friends your memory will always bring a light to the darkness.
Oh, gods! I didn't know that he had died... G'kar was always my favourite character, right from Day One, and Andreas played him to perfection. Together they represented the best of us.
Every so often, I come back and watch this video again. G'Kar and Andreas was by far, the most interesting and complex character on any show that I've watched. Definitely missed.

His biggest role was the one-armed man in "The Fugitive". He deserved better, I think.

RIP Andreas. Your work will forever be remembered with the giants of sci-fi and makeup acting (Lon Chaney).

Amazing how hearing about people die on the news every night hasn't any effect on you, but hearing the death of someone you loved in a television show cuts you up. I suppose it's like losing part of your childhood.
gribae 3 years ago
Well, I am not used to hear that people died every night on the news (I'm not from America. No offence. Just stating.)
I think, in the case of Andreas, it is like loosing a teacher. While we saw him develop throughout the series, we ourselves developed along with him. And that made him a part of our lives, in contrast to the people on the news.

No offence taken - I'm Australian born, raised and still living.
Teacher, childhood, it's still sad to see a beloved person leave the World.
gribae 3 years ago
It's amazing how one can grow attached to a non-existent person. Well, in the matter of reality, I think, what we form in our thoughts exists (at least for us) and so, G'Kar exists. ;-)

G'Kar is definitely one of my favorites, and it made me very sad to learn he died. More importantly, it was Andreas' voice and ability to give such amazing orations as G'Kar that made me enjoy him the most of the characters.
He is definitely missed by so many, for we cannot hear his powerful and moving voice anymore.

I agree 100%. Definitely my favourite character.

A master Thespian, indeed. His acting and speeches were amongst the best that anyone could offer. I love his characterisation of G'kar in B5 and Scree in Primal. This is a guy I would have loved to have met and will always miss.

Big word, big thoughts, a big actor.
A writer writes words and an actor, put life into those words AK did that with G'Kar.
He will be missed. We'll all see him again, when we travel beyond the rim.

indeed...this sequence from an earlier episode is definitely a good homage to GKar and Katsulas

It is sad that we have lost such great talent and wonderful people. Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) and also Tim Choate (Zathras) Rest Easy Friends, you will be missed.

goddamn i didn't realise he was gone, such a shame, a great loss. He had such a fantastic voice, and the dynamic between him and Londo was purely amazing, i think i simply must go back and watch b5 all over again, thanks for posting !

he's my favorite actor in the b5 series.
awsome speeches he could give.

Using the theme from "Dragonheart" was inspired, considering how that film ended. One of the most moving scores I've heard. I think Andreas Katsulas would have also made a great voice for Draco, perhaps even better than Sean Connery's
