I think they sound just as good now as they ever have , things change ! Hugh and Paul both brought different qualities to the band . Paul and John filled the massive void left buy Hugh.... but Baz has filled all three of their places and indeed added his own style on the band . We will never get the original 4 piece again but we will always have The Stranglers keeping it real .

Have to say that Hugh and Paul were better technically than Baz as he is limited but the the original guys are total quality.

"This new lineup has no soul at ALL.", dunno if I would go that far, they have some redeeming features.I think the stranglers have become a bit too much 'the establishment 'without Hugh and have lost their genuine edge. As for having no soul, it's great that JJ Burnel sings these days, whilst Baz Warne is tolerable as a guitar player he is hopelessly crap and annoying as a singer, he lacks any of Hugh's wit, charm, charisma, he's got a big ego granted, but truly crap rendition of Hugh's vocals

they're more powerful than ever at the moment

Exciting in that I may be able to see the latest incarnation live in my lifetime...Really hoping they make a run to the US this summer....Love to see you at First Avenue in Minneapolis....Seems like a long time since ya been here-1986 is the show I (kinda) remember..,.
