I had to guard this cassette for always man. The grunts tried to lift it from ne on several occassions. It was the only tape I could listen to in Vietnam. one of the best recorded reditions ever of this tune Mona, the drums have a primal sound that gets you down to the ground, lead guitars yeah keep the ribbons flying high!!!
Man talk about vinyl. My Happy Trails album has tape around three sides. I played that fucking album so much I think I wore it out. They were awesome to see in concert. When Dino was alive, what a voice he had. Quicksilver was the only casette I had i Vietnam. I had to hide that tape before some fucking grunt or combat engineer could get there hands on it. I made it home in 04/1970. I still have the casette even though I think is it mono. Cleartwater.

This old music is alright. But it can't touch any of the modern stuff like Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, & the Jonas Brothers. I bet things would have been a lot different in in the 60's if Miley Cyrus & those other artists I mentioned had ruled the music scene then! Can you imagine Miley Cyrus fronting Big Brother & the Holding Company instead of Janis? Or Justin Beiber as the lead singer for the Doors instead of Jim? @scabbarae We are currently in the Golden Age of rock music & cultural change, the early 2,000's, which will be remembered for centuries to come. Some people have been misled into thinking that the 1960's were an important decade of change, with things like JFK, Vietnam war, Beatles, etc... but it's the last decade that is really the important one. 9/11, the Middle East, Obama, & artists like Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Nick Jonas & Justin Bieber are making history.
@MileyCyrusTrueLove FUCK YOU. IM SERIOUS FUCK YOU. Unless you were just being sarcastic about liking the fucking jonas brothers and that other bullshit
Are you serious about that? I mean, if you like this bands good for you I understand, but ask to a music critic about the golden age o f music and how real talented music artist look like?
@MileyCyrusTrueLove Why the hell are you even watching this video then if you are going to say stupid shit about the 2000's being the golden age of music? The Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and all those other goddamn pop artists will be forgotten in about ten years AT THE MOST. But Quicksilver Messenger Service and other 60's and 70's bands will be remembered forever.
@MileyCyrusTrueLove People like those artists you named are corporate whores. they get payed to make songs that appeal to impressionable teens, like in the 50s.Their songs will not be remembered. They're blemishes on the once great musical society. The 60s were the greatest cultural change.
The 50s were cookie cutter and uniform and the 60s was an explosion of art with meaning.
@MileyCyrusTrueLove Please don't say things like that, It pisses the fuck out of me. Jim Morrison and the Doors were amazing because of WHO they were. They wouldn't be the Doors with a "Justin Bieber" squeaking at the helm. Same with Big Brother and Cyrus.
@jonvonman Well then how about Lady Gaga with Ray, Robbie & John? That would be something! It could still happen! And Susan Boyle with Big Brother & the Holding Co? Or wait, maybe Cher would be better with them. What do you think?
Does Justin beiber, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga pound you in the ass all at once with a strap on? Does it make you feel alive or more stupid..maybe its already happened since you would even say such a blasphemous thing like that on youtube.
I was going with a beautiful redhead when this song came out, and I spent a hell of a lot of time monaing with her!! Kath, you were the best thing to ever happen to me. Thanks, baby.
I read about this record in some music book talking about how the Bay Area bands had this terrible weakness for long, psychedelic covers of Rhythm and Blues songs and that they were never as soulful as the original versions... I must disagree. This is awesome.
@smokiebird06 Same here.....the baby looked like choriso with an old leather wallet floating in it ....we named her "Floaty" and put her up for adoption.....
Tonight I heard Benjamin Doerr in solo concert. He mentioned that he tries to avoid saying, "this next one" which of course reminded me of the opening of Mona by QMS so I had to hear it. I always liked this one.
I can't tell you how stoned I use to get listening to this song!! This was such a great time for music. It was changing so quickly, but it was always worth getting loaded to.
Talk about memories--I can remember listening to this on a firebase north of Saigon in mid-1969. Our Division had a radio station that played great music; one DJ was out of the SF area and played music like QMS and other bay area bands.
When i got back in country, most people in knew in OH hadn't heard of this band.
Thanks to you for fighting for our freedom here in the US that allows us the opportunity to listen to all this good music, Think of the countries that do not have this freedom of expression.
YEsterday riding my bike along the beach and little beach houses here in LB, Ca. Man this song couldve been the soundtrack. Great song to smoke a doob to and make love to,
I literally jumped for joy when I found this song! Hummmmm yes, Cipollina's shimmering guitar. Couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you so much for posting this!
I always loved the tonal quality of this song - the open, loping beat, Cipollina's shimmering guitar, the rumbling fuzzy bassline - this and gold & silver are about my favorite QMS songs
I had to guard this cassette for always man. The grunts tried to lift it from ne on several occassions. It was the only tape I could listen to in Vietnam.

Unless you were just being sarcastic about liking the fucking jonas brothers and that other bullshit
deadheadandy91 1 year ago
@MileyCyrusTrueLove
Are you serious about that? I mean, if you like this bands good for you I understand, but ask to a music critic about the golden age o f music and how real talented music artist look like?
Niassss 1 year ago
@MileyCyrusTrueLove Why the hell are you even watching this video then if you are going to say stupid shit about the 2000's being the golden age of music? The Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and all those other goddamn pop artists will be forgotten in about ten years AT THE MOST. But Quicksilver Messenger Service and other 60's and 70's bands will be remembered forever.

@MileyCyrusTrueLove YOU ARE THE DUMBEST PERSON ON PLANET EARTH!!
kappywriter 1 year ago

Same with Big Brother and Cyrus.
jonvonman 1 year ago
@jonvonman Well then how about Lady Gaga with Ray, Robbie & John? That would be something! It could still happen! And Susan Boyle with Big Brother & the Holding Co? Or wait, maybe Cher would be better with them. What do you think?

@MileyCyrusTrueLove Wow..you must really like them don't you?
Does Justin beiber, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga pound you in the ass all at once with a strap on? Does it make you feel alive or more stupid..maybe its already happened since you would even say such a blasphemous thing like that on youtube.

I read about this record in some music book talking about how the Bay Area bands had this terrible weakness for long, psychedelic covers of Rhythm and Blues songs and that they were never as soulful as the original versions... I must disagree. This is awesome.
SirCoughsalot 2 years ago 4
extremely reminiscent of a 'Bo Diddley Beat'. Think 'who do you love' or 'hey bo diddley'. QMS puts a great psychadelic feel into it.

Tonight I heard Benjamin Doerr in solo concert. He mentioned that he tries to avoid saying, "this next one" which of course reminded me of the opening of Mona by QMS so I had to hear it. I always liked this one.

Talk about memories--I can remember listening to this on a firebase north of Saigon in mid-1969. Our Division had a radio station that played great music; one DJ was out of the SF area and played music like QMS and other bay area bands.
When i got back in country, most people in knew in OH hadn't heard of this band.
