  • Now these are REAL sirens.

  • 18 People Didn't Want To Go To Sleep.

  • I'm a 24 year old man, without getting into the b.s of describing my masculinity, i will tell you:

"I have done some masculine things in life".

That being said, I cry sometimes when i hear this song, and i enjoy it so much.

  • amazing ... gives me chills everytime i hear this ... beautiful harmony and passion and the lyrics are simple yet profound (in my opinion anyways)

  • IMHO music is subjective and people in this day and age will make of one song something completely different from what it was ORIGINALLY ment to be, in this particular songs case I think of it as nothin more than a momma callin her man over after a hard day's work for some good ole fashioned love. *hot whistle* Xo

  • crying for my baby , the devil and me... all night long. so much tears ;(

  • LIKES!

wcpb - lay bones on alabaster stones?

  • @koteshub Momma knows her man is soo tired that he'll lay himself down on the alabaster stones and pass out. So she's tellin him come on baby and do so and I'll make ya feel all right. :)

  • @RedJohnO22 Cheers, mite! i thought of african witchcraft and woodoo..

  • CTFXC WTF

  • ctfxc?

  • @fenderchick1977 it luls them to sleep with Satans embrace ;)

  • What's crazy about this song is that it's actually about a woman sacrificing her baby to the devil to give it immortality. It's funny that people equate it with a gospel song.

  • @TheRichardWad The reason to equate it with "white gospel" hast to do with its music/arrangement and not with its text - gospel has more than one meaning and music is always ready to be used in any context human kind may like to use it. And for non-believers it makes not much difference to advocate for a supernatural being, whether it's of the bright or the dark side of non-natural worlds.

  • You and Me and The Devil make Three ,,,,, Story of some of our Lives ;)

  • Sounds like a Casey Anthony favorite.

  • emmylou harris is so hot.

  • Gives me the chills.

  • Good song, haunting lyrics.

  • Never mind. Should've read the description first. ^^

  • What kind of music/genre is this? ^^

  • I love this song!

  • 16 people have insomnia

  • If you want to try the "round", I've found that you should start the next video at the foot stomp on the 0:04 mark.

  • I sing it to my little sister but i change u and me and the devil tho jesus cuz shes at that age were she repeats everything so i dont her singing u and me and the devil because thats a little scary

  • from what album is this?

  • @shadowpt i know its on o brother where art thou soundtrack but dont know if its actually on any of their albums

  • Wow they're good.

  • Wow their good.

  • first open one window then minimize to allow you to open another then again do the same again, once you've done it three times start the first clip then start the second clip and finally start the third clip, then just sit back and you will hear what amounts to nothing less than a heavenly choir

  • AMAZING harmony!!! :D

  • Wow, really, this really does sounds WONDERFUL if you have this playing in a few different windows at once.

  • Oh WOW this is so awesome, love ya all,God Bless ya,wishing you well with a really good evening my friends,I have really enjoyed listening too you sing )

  • awesome sweetness!! a classic!

  • this song gives me goose-bumps, every time

  • dis song gave me a big booner

  • @idbid07 HAHAHAHAHA

  • those are the girls who played in o brother were are tho !!!!

  • love this song!!!!!!!!!!

  • I sing this to my kids all the time, creepy or not (ever listen to the lyrics of many lullabies? Like Rock-a--bye baby?)...it's got the weirdest calming effect on them and they almost always fall asleep by the end of the song. I change the lyrics to "Your Daddy's gone away"....and "He's long gone with his combat boots on" since their dad is a Marine and is often gone on deployments. Glad to pass this on to my kids.

  • o'brother was a good movie

  • This is one of my ALL time favorite songs...I find it truly amazing that the song is complete with vocals only...true talent at its finest!!!

  • i love this

  • wow... thats all i can say... amazing

  • What a fantastic song.

  • Love it Girls

  • these 3 are my 3 fav female singers! wow , all together on one song. Angelic

  • To be honest I somehow dont hear what you guys hear, its just a song, no death, on poison, just a song !!!!

  • @pawpawbear02 If you listen to the part "she's long gone with her red shoes on" suggesting that that mother has abandoned her baby to be a prostitute. "Honey in the rock" symbolizes honey or sugar being used to cover-up the taste of poison so the baby will drink it. It's totally supposed to be creepy and upsetting, that's why the evil sirens are singing it in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou".

  • @MissMiasWorld Its a shame, I hear a good song, not a creepy dark song, but I suppose I must be superficial and a bit thick, but to be honest I prefer it this way, then I see the lighter nicer side of things, its quite good not to see all those things that you guys see.

  • Fantastic !!!! love listening to it.

  • Yummy... all of them

    I mean all three

  • Yummy... all of them

  • The song is about an infant who has been abandoned by its parents and has no one to care for it. The Speaker has decided that the infant is better off absent the mortal coil. So while everyone is gone out to work in the fields the speaker is giving the child poison in a bottle and laying it down for an eternal rest.

  • @IDKdoIneed1 where do you "read into this " poison in the bottle? I think rather the mother died in childbirth. The father is mourning the child and cares for his dead wife like the baby... they both could have died, at least one of them survived. I'd say that the song makes perfect sense that way. Of course, they left out the lyrics about the honey in the rock but we won't "get into" that one, I'm not sure I want to hear your interpretation of it "baby"...

  • @SuddenSparkles Then dont look at it. Not to be blunt but I have searched for the meaning of this song in the internet over countless websites. Theyre are countless interpretations and this one to me may be the saddest but with the honey in the rock it does fit.

  • @SuddenSparkles Actually they are saying "Your mamas gone away and your daddy's gone to stay", not he's "Going to stay". "Didn't leave nobody but the baby" -the baby is abandoned. It is supposed to be a very dark song.

  • @IDKdoIneed1

Dark, but I much prefer that over the interpretation of the baby being sacrificed to Satan...that one just sounds silly.

  • Watch them singing. They sold their sole. :(

  • I love this song.its just fuckin awesome!!!

  • I love me some bluegrass!!!!!!!!!

  • this is just an amazing lullaby! my 18 month old daughter just goes right out when i sing it to her :)

  • love the song amazing

  • does anyone know which is on which part?

like which woman is singing the low alto, the middle, the top part?

    just curious.

  • Amazing.

  • My mother used to sing this to me when I was a young child - she passed in 1996.

  • Haunting, just lovely :)

  • which one is which?

  • @mzsxysmrts Gillian Welch is the one with the ponytail and Alison Krauss is the one with the short hair, Emmylou Harris is the other one. They're heaps cool.

  • very nice. great harmonies. i'd like to sing it at JT and LISA'S house sometime.

  • Allison Krauss is such a wonderful singer. God has truly blessed all 3 of these women with great voices

  • oll good but... you and me and the devil makes three, this sounds terible

  • wow love this song my mom thinks its weird cause im 15 and love this song

  • Fantastic. Even my 15 year old son loves it. Then again, I think his mind is on the sirens. lol

  • I hope my next 3 lifetimes , these will be my mothers

  • I hope my next three lifetimes , these are my mothers

  • does anyone know what this song is about

  • @cypresbyrne I'm not sure it is really about anything specific. Very old songs like this get changed, added to, cobbled together in all sorts of ways! The joy of the process of oral transmission. I laughed when I heard the line about "You and me and the devil makes three!" There is an old and well known nursery rhyme that says "Daddy and me and baby makes three!"

  • That was majorly excellent...

  • they were hotter in the movie

  • Lovely a capella job, thanks for sharing.

  • this tree lady's are so great they gods angels!

  • Try this I think its great, start up 2-3 of this vid and leave 2-3 seconds between each I promise its fantastic i love this song and these three extremely talented ladies.

  • Absolutely beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes.

  • My ex wife used to sing this to my son when he was first born. I get tears every time I hear it. Absolutely beautiful-

  • perfect harmony, still you can distinginuish each singers voice, thx for posting

  • Great song! Beautiful voices. Thank you for posting.

  • I love this song so much, and the movie

  • great tune

  • I am agnost and gospel, especially these three ladies are still beautiful to listen to. Songs to soothe the savage soul. ;)

  • My sons favorite bedtime song

  • i sing this to my daughter every night when i put her to bed. it is her favorite bedtime song!

  • I tried the suggestion of starting two or three clips of this song 5-6 seconds apart and OMG what a sensation no other words can describe it, try it and you'll see what I mean.

  • @pawpawbear02 How do you do this?

  • guys, dont do a religious war, you are all wrong no matter what you say. God is something you believe in no matter what you call him, its no wonder he never shows his face in this world anymore if all we do is cause another genesis whenever we open our mouths.

  • @kamiro201

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Hey, robomac00, the Catholic Church has probably killed as many people as the Protestants. What an utterly ignorant comment you make. And if you knew what the first Christians actually wrote about "the real teachings of Jesus," etc., you would see what a remarkable similarity, gasp!, it has with Catholics today. In any event, thanks to loppestre for posting the video. The music from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is special.

  • singlesoldier you don't seem to kno your religion but that's normal for most of us Americans read more Catholics tried to take england because they had a diff tyought process. Completely against the real teachings of Jesus faith is not a religion You must have a personal relationship with god not through the church, how many people has the

    " church" killed ?????????????????

  • when is the last time you actually read the bible, you dont know what the eff youre talking about, you just want to attack the church. personal relationship with god is in the bible you dumbass

  • baptist can claim all they want..thats an old fashion Catholic song

  • Excellent

  • really really really love it!

  • Oh yeah, tried that suggestion, fantastic no other words can describe it !!! just an over all sensation.

  • Try this: open up two vids of the song. At 5 seconds of starting the first, start the second. It is not a perfect round, but if you get the timing right, is double delicious.

  • that was AWESOME!

    thanks! great idea

  • @ddecimal great!!! think you can do three times actually...thats how its done in the movie

  • top tip, that!

  • It's Emmy-lou on melody/bass, Alison on the middle harmony and Gillian on the high harmony part right? Thought that Emmy-lou got through more than the other two which might be because she was on lead vocal?

  • Does anyone know where I can find the chords/harmonies to this song?

  • No better trio ever.

  • @BrewTa2 peter paul and mary???

  • chills simply awsome

  • Its just a real treat to see Emmy, Gill and Alison on the same stage...amazing

  • i can't understand that this song it's evil or not LOL

  • dam they soundedd good :]

  • sweet emy lou i havent seen her in over twenty years. great song god bless.

  • AWESOME!!

  • ahh that was soooo goood!!!! i couldnt tell who were the alto and saprano because their harmony was so perfect!!!

  • Gillian is the the highest on this, which is ironic because she has the most limited range of the three (her words not mine).

  • ahhhh!!!! amazing...why can't i sing like this haha

  • so beautiful!

  • ty so much for the synched version!!

  • was the version of the song in the movie? if not hot damn they sound the same!!

  • this is the version from the film- the women who were the sirens were just actresses.

  • Fantastic to hear this again, The human voice is such a versatile sound and used like this its great, not cluttered with superfluous music.

  • Classic....

  • Sweeeeet! Good stuff.

  • Funny reaction that - Luckily ah seen em foist

  • Those are different actresses. They're lip-syncing.

  • They are not in the movie, only their voices are, dumbass

  • not so - you in-bred hick. They have three wimmin doing their dhobi by the river - singing that song. So there! :3

  • God damnit, I've seen the movie a couple of hundred times, it's just three actresses using their voices.

Maybe you're blind, you seem to be in your writing.

  • now looky-here missy, those there girlies are a-singing and a washing! Y'all be a sayin' that George Clooney is miming next :-). Any fool know's he wrote the song for Bob Dylan before he was outta diapers

  • God damnit, you don't even know what you're talking about anymore

  • A Swede no less. I spect you take shaving very seriously :3

  • O... M... G...

  • Oh, so you are judgemental too?

  • So you are a psychologist now too?

Btw, it's spelled 'childhood', not 'child-hood'. Like you say, I'm a Swede, and even I know that.

  • I must say this is a fine rendition of this song. Excellent job on the harmony, and perfect beat !!

  • mm... my daughters asleep on me again. This song puts her to sleep everytime. i pray to god shes with me everyday when shes older. everytime im with her and play this song i feel like im in heaven.

  • regarding the parts each sing: Gillian mentions on the DVD from which this video is taken ("Down From The Mountain") that although she has the lowest voice of the three, she is called upon to sing the high part (in which the others took a playfully cruel delight), and as a change from typically singing in an angelic high voice, Emmylou particularly enjoyed being asked to sing the low part...

  • Favourited ;]

  • Really well done :)

  • I think they did this in Telluride too!
