My cobalt makes the same noises on stock parts with the exception of the intake i just mentioned so im willing to bet that the noise you are hearing is supposed to be there. Mine flutters when i let up off the gas while im driving and when i shut the car off. A lot of you need to realize that turbo technology isnt as rudimentary as it used to be. The cobalt SS stock turbo is a Dual scroll turbo so its not just some cheap slap on turbo you can get at any parts store. so its gonna act different
Ok i have a cobalt ss turbo as well and mine does the same thing with just an intake. From what i understand the turbo flutter is actually supposed to be there to slow the turbine down to keep it from spinning all the time. Its actually less harmfull on the turbo that way then for it to be constantly spinning all the time. I was told that the flutter effect was nessisary to eliminate the need for a turbo timer so that when the car shuts off the turbo doesnt have to spin down for half an hour
well i took it to a bunch of performance shops around me and they all said it wasn't surge so idk if it was or not, but it only did it when i was stopped in neutral never when driving and making boost, but then i got the gm stage 1 and now nothing some im guessing that fixed wutever it was, now next spring im gunna get a trifecta tune! :)
dude, that is flutter all the way. you need to pick a different bov, because if doesnt work with you supercharger, or turbo, which ever you are running. it sound like a turbo.the bov is way too big, or it designed for big turbo apps. just becareful, because you will damage your turbo with that bov because it closing too soon and letting the air run back agianst the turbine.
hey! i just got a BOV but where i went to install he told me i cant because the tube is in plastic what did u do to make it work and installed properly? if i just replace it where the the orignal car BOV is, is it going to work properly and make the sound its supposed to? thanks in advance!

what exactly is the place you baught your short ram air intake?? all i can find for the 09 ss is cai's i dont want that for living in pennsylvania.. thanks!
i dont think that sound is compressor surge. my friend has an SRT-4 and when he put his intake on it made the same sound almost. it sounds like the compressor wheel echoing through the intercooler piping. when i rev my car to redline and let the revs drop to about 3000 i could hear the same sound through my intake very faintly though. then again i could be wrong
i got my compressor surge when i plugged the bov in like dejon said. put all your vac lines back to normal and splice the stock bov line and it want have the fluttering soiund no more
Sounds like it could be a few things, I know the old greddy type S BOV's had an adjuster on the top to adjust how tight the BOV is, meaning at lower boost pressures if its too tight it will not blow off. it seems that it is blowing off at first but when it has lower pressure in the pipes its forcing it back through the turbo(surge) unless it is a "ratcheting" BOV. the way the bov works is when the engine see's vacuum it opens up the BOV(letting off the gas) sounds as if it could be disconnected
you better be careful with the compression surge. it'll fuck it up, i should know cuz i fucked up my speed 3 with compression surge, luckly i was able to put all the stock parts on and took it to the dealer to get it serviced. if it aint tuned for VTA dont do it.
What did they say it was because thats air rushing back into the turbo making the fan spin the other way....hence the weird noise. Id like to hear this explanation by them...
hey im the actual owner of this car and im wondering if it could be built back exhaust pressure?? would an aftermarket exhaust fix this i want to get it sorted out
im pretty sure you need a block off plate and you need to be tuned for it to work properly. Bu theres a ton of reasos of what could cause this...better have someone look at it...
I've been meaning to put this up for some time but after u said this i went to 3 performance shops in my area and they all said it wasnt compression surge
well hearing the video now it doesnt sound like that at all ne more, ill have to post another one when i get time and they all said it was the air rushing back into the intake
you guys can say watever you want but it is surge i kno for sure you need a diferent bov get a greddy t-rs dose work nice and are adjustables

the sound that you think is compressor surge is his wastegate actuator

Calm down man. . . I am trying to figure this out as well, ok? What do you think is causing this? Vacuum Leak?
And just an FYI, i do believe you about the surge!!
NA88COBRA 2 years ago
Calm down about what? there could be multiple things causing this...do you have a Block off plate?
