Finally bit the bullet and picked up Savage World's Deluxe today.

My SPEW scores are strange. I did the test twice. The first time, I erred conservatively when I wasn't sure, and got 20, 25, 28, and 21--which seems a little too low. The second time, I erred more toward my ideal self image and got 35, 32, 31, 30; which seems high and also makes strength my highest. I guess I'm not meshing well with their attribute distribution. Still, I like the concept of a personality test for attribs.

@unquietsoul I have played it and it uses the 'roll under the stat' percentile system using degrees of success and failure similar to dark heresy. the character creation system is just like the whole game. simple, with the ability to get really indepth. They even have 'Gestalt dice' to make new skills based on your age.

A little more mechanics info would have been useful.... is it a percentile system ala Rolemaster, ala Call of Chthulhu, ala Unknown Armies or ala Time Master or ala Old Marvel Superheroes? Do you roll low, roll high (but not over) or roll high and add stuff? Does rolling involve charts and tables, or a standalone calculation or comparison?

Is the character design system simple or complex if you don't play yourself via the online app? Or can you?

@WalrusDoom  As long as the Ebook readers continue to be over priced, easily broken and have bad access controls. No ebook reader can display an 8 1/2 x 11 text page as a single page (non-scrolling) with a readable font presently on the market. They all have to reformat the text or use magnifiers of font so you can't see the entire page at once. Also, none of them seem to take and use the Hypertext abilities of PDFs properly so you can follow in document links.

@unquietsoul My bigger point was about cost and who can afford to buy these books now due to the Second Great Depression. I know I've had to stop buying books completely.

@WalrusDoom Sorry books for me are one of the last things to go when it comes to sanity spending (spending money to keep one sane). I cut out movies, eating out, cable tv, dvds, etc. long before books when tightening the belt. Books are way more cost effective of hours of value vs cost if they are good. You do have to be choosy on what you buy though (thus review shows like this one).
