  • thanx helped meeee

  • SUPERB VIDEO. THANKS BRO!

  • im adjusting my roadbike now,,, n this vedio reallly helpped me ! thanks !

  • Awesome vid Iam having frustrating problems with a second hand bike I've bought and the gears! Wen I change gear it either jumps two or doesn't sit in cog properly and constantly chinking like its about to change! Iam having to hold it in gear with my hand using the grip shift and it's really tiring on my wrist! Gonna follow this vid at weekend and finally sort it! Thankyou!

  • This is the best video i can find. All the others are really dodgy and difficult to understand. Still haven't mastered it but i'm getting there.

  • thanks - this instructional helped me to adjust my gears

  • evreone being stupid-- grow up! this video helped, thankyou!

  • Nice buddy

    Great Teaching.

  • i need an answer fast so please if anyone knows il be much gratefull is it possible for a 6 speed derrailer work on a 5 speed cassete?

  • @excalebuir should work as long as you set the limit screw for the smaller gear aka 5th gear further in than it would normaly be for a 6 speed to prevent the chain been accidently run off the end off the cassete

  • Spot on vid. Cheers

  • This is the best video i have found very good thank you very much for your help :)

  • 1:20 on to the big cock?

  • @alexcruzz33 real mature. lol

  • @alexcruzz33

    LOL :D

    "on to the big cog"

  • This is great.

  • good clear and precise

  • Clear, Concise, easy to follow. NIce one.

  • bring as many videos out as possible, these videos finally actually help, thankyou and well done!

  • Thanks for clear advice

  • woe, exactly what im looking for. Thanks a lot!

  • thank you u really did help cuz i didnt know what to do omg thank u

  • Sorry, have to add the h t t p :// in front of the w w w (why won't the youtubes let me put the link in!! Agggghhhh!) The title of the video is "Gear Adjustment"

  • See below just add the w w w to the start and you should be good. The problem with the current video is that it appears to me that leaving the cable connected while adjusting the limit screws means the cable can have a lot of influence on the limit screw adjustment. It's better to take the cable out of the picture by disconnecting it first.

  • Johnyster it won't let me put in the link but here is part of it youtube.com/watch?v=SkzvfCaIbyQ&feature=related

  • There is a better video that shows how to do it by disconnecting the cable first on the smallest cog. Check derailleur limits manually and adjust with limit screws to keep chain where it needs to be. Then reconnect cable and adjust with barrel adjuster until it shifts. Done. More accurate adjustment.

  • @surferkarl Could you put it here to us, please ?

  • Thanks so much! This video helped me fixed my bike moments ago.. I was trying to adjust it after installing new chain. Good work!

  • Very helpful

  • Thanks!

  • I've got an Emelle Predetor and when I twist the gears on the handlebars nothing happens, not even the wire is tensed. Does this mean I need a new cable?

  • Finally a professional! So many amateurs dont know what they are talking about on youtube.

  • thanks for this video! it was very well done and well explained. it helped me out a lot

  • Cheers for this - simple and clear and the mystery of my derailleur is solved! My gears now running nice and smoothly.

  • Does it matter what cog the chain is on in the front cog while adjusting the rear derailleur?

  • nice tips guyss....

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • at 0:35 my pullie does not move??

  • Thanks so much for your tutorial. Had been struggling with trying to fix the gears for a while now. Watched this and after bout 10 minutes both front and back gears are now aligned correctly (well at least I think so, will find out when I go for my cycle tomorrow). But seriously, thanks so much for taking the time to do this and other turoials. Very helpful!!

  • Well that just saved me hours of stress... Thank you

If I had looked very very closely the screws have an "L" & "H" indicating which screw is for the high and low gear..

  • what's he saying?...i cant understand redneckian

  • @dpapaioannow That's not "redneck"

  • @dpapaioannow go back to school dumbass.

  • I can listen to Big Cog all day long. Good tips as well.

  • help please, while i was changing gears the bike chain fell of and now its stuck,is there any way i can put the chain back on without having to send it somewhere to repair it

    ?

  • whts up with this video a minite and 12 secs

  • ty

  • why to dislike this video ,its so helpful

  • george bush knows his shiet

  • Thanks for posting this video! I have a mountain bike that I bought from a big box chain store and their people put it together. I can't shift out of first gear. I have the book but its a little confusing. Its nice to have a video to supplement the book. Now, in my particular case, how would you approach fixing the problem? Would you start by adjusting the hi/lo screws or the cable? Or, would it be better to disconnect the cable and start from scratch? Thank you again!

  • my bike wil no go in to gear 1

  • That was an excellent instructional video - thanks for taking the time to post that!

  • great guide!! Im an amateur an it was great!! ;D

  • Awesome video. Very helpful and clear:concise. Thanks a bunch.

  • when i try to change from 6 to other gears, it doesnt go upper, the shifter drags the cable and the cable drags the derailleur but it only drags vertically, it doesnt drag to the otehr gear, idk why. When i move the derailleur to the first gear by my hand, it moves and it changed to 2,3,4,5 and 6, but i cant go back to the 5,4,3,2,1, because the derailleur only moves vertically, but not to the other gear.

Oh and btw when i tighten the cable a bit more, the gear changes but only to the 1 one :/

  • Thanks for a very easy video on a problem that i have had for a while. Will try this tomorrow.

  • Hello, I've followed this tutorial and I'm up shifting smoothly now but when it comes to down shifting it's awful ,what can I do to fix it ?

  • This video is a Life Saver and Money Saver I was just going to take it to a bike shop but now I know how to do it Thank You So Much Mate.

  • thanks a lot for the help!!!

  • My shift fine when testing them, but when i pedal hard it jumps every so often. Why is this happening?

  • Thanks for the vid, very simple and helpful :)

  • 1000th like by me! :D

    great vid!

  • Brilliant.. super-clear! Thanks

  • Thanks so much... exactly what I needed!

  • great video, but 1:21

  • THANK YOU MASTER!

  • Dude sounds like George W. Bush

  • Dude sounds like George W. Bush

  • great video! simple and clearly show how to do it..

  • Clear and concise, thanks you just saved me a drive to the bike shop.

  • the gears in my bike keep on sliping. if i put it n 1, it automaticly goas to 2 without changing. what should i do?

  • @driverxish watch the video again and apply a tiny bit of brain powered thought.

hint: it involves turning a screw

  • @driverxish Adjust the cable on the derailer, then tweak it under load by using the barrel adjuster on the rear hand shifter whilst pedalling uphill. On a cheap bike, your cassette, chain and shifter may not share exact compatibility. Google "Sheldon Brown" for details. Make sure your derailer (french - dérailleur) is not bent.

  • thanx man i fixed mine thanx to you!!!!!

  • Thanks for this, hope it will stop mine ghost shifting every now and then.

  • Whatta great video! Thank you so much! straight forward and to the point. Perfect.

  • great video! thanx!

  • Great video - thank you. Looks like I need to have a play around with my barrel adjuster.

Out of interest whats the common name for the kind of maintenance stand you can use for this kind of job?

  • @Showuk a bike maintenance stand? haha. the guys at a bike shop near me use 'park tool' equipment, like this: amazon.co.uk/Park-Tool-Mechanic-Repair-Stand/dp/B000OZFJTI/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1308751352&sr=8-10

  • @northcms haha, I should definitely of been able to think of 'maintenance stand'! thanks

  • hahaha at 1:22

  • hi plz reply my gear skips 1 of the middle cassette , for example if i switch to 5 gear it goes to 3 , the gear i bought is acera shimano but the gear shifter is sram and cassette is shimano

  • This is what i'm talking about. Simple and clear!

  • what gear shift r u using

  • ye should really do more...very good video

  • Comment removed

  • i watched the vid up to the 0:41 mark so far and it is very helpful! great job.

  • this shit kicks my ass. just when i think i got it all right, the sprockets jump up and down while riding like they're trying to shift. and my shit don't look all clean like that. they're full of grime and black grease. can i ever make them look ok?

  • Thanks for the vid, so helpful all under two mins.. Thanks!! Oh it worked like a charm

  • @Domagent53 well said it worked for me too :)

  • You forgot to tell that you need to have compatible transmission.

  • im gunna try this tomaro and im confident that it will work

  • haha he keeps on sayin cock

  • I failed at this miserably. No matter what i do i cant get chain to work properly on biggest and smallest "stars" :(

  • @DoDGeRys

Stars...you mean the gears/cogs? Make sure you're ONLY using the limit screws to adjust the high and low limit of the derailleur. Use the barrel adjuster to fine tune the shifting up and down the cogs. Also, make sure the teeth on the cogs, your chain, your drivetrain components, and cables are in good condition.

  • @opmike343 Thanks for reply, i tried all the different configurations i could come up with, will attempt one more time someday soon, if failed, will have to get a professional to give a try.

  • Fantastic guide , i followed this and it has cured my bikes gears problems

  • I've been trying to understand this for a long time and this video made it so easy. Thank you.

  • Sounds like a very worn out drive train.

  • @IntownBicycles help! mine wont shift into 1st gear! (it will if i force it but it dosent like tension and when i try to adjust it it wont move..) bought it at meijer was that a mistake? (24 speed with trigger shifts and 1 disk brake in the front shimmaro brand derailuer) i adjusted the front... its a mountain bike

  • @IntownBicycles which is funny because you can see the machining marks and bearing surfaces on the chain... clearly showing that it is not worn at all...

  • my chain skips after i go out of 3rd gear and gets worse as i keep chainging to higher gears how do i fix this

  • waow I was competently clueless about this now I fix the problem the cable was way too loose man now it feel likes a new bike AMAZING!! information!!!

I dont think it was ever adjusted for over 15 years until I got it has a gift is FUJI 1992 mountain bike bright orange lol..colors suck but I love my bike!!!

  • finally, a video that clearly explains derailleur adjustment

  • couldn't have been easier to understand. wonderful job, thanks!

  • fuck the fenians thanks m8

  • ...and on to the big cock...

  • @FruHallon

    LOL....he likes the big cock.

  • good nice and simple ;)

  • thank you for posting this video...i hate fix my gears as didnt understand how to do it proper. but now i have seen how its supposed to be done will make it much easier now :) :)

  • Good stuff, thanks.

  • Great video, thanks. Nice clear instructions.

  • thanks

  • wow so fast i also need some more tension on the chain

  • My chain is drooping any tips

  • @alexcastilloz If the rear mech springs are ok, and the mech is pulling back to it's full contracted position, then you need to remove a few chain links. If the mech springs are weak, you'll need a new mech.

  • What about when the gears are slipping as I ride, is this to do with the barrel adjustor? How do I prevent my gears from slipping?

  • Good job. Easy to understand and follow. Well done.

  • Great video. Finally a bike maintenance video which is easy to understand.

  • great video mate, i just put a new chain on my bike, when i'm pedalling along the chain jumps from one gear to another, do you have any idea how to sort this out?

  • Brilliant video! Thanks! This is exactly what the Intrnet is intended for!

  • Newer XT or XTR doesn't have that barrel adjuster...My old XT have it but new doesn't...only at the trigger of course...Can someone tell me whats that all about...Im not that into hardware..Thanks

  • big cock

  • Fantastic! its easy when you know how and now I know!

  • r u ppl stupid ? Cmon who needs that shit show us some real stuff how to change cassetes or take a part fork and stuff like that

  • @theinavel7 Dude it's not like you were born with this knowledge either. People need to start somewhere, if youre too advanced go watch something else

  • @theinavel7 Why the hell would you choose to look at a video about adjusting bicycle gears then moan its not about replacing the cassette? you do realise you are making no sense and only have yourself to blame? Next time look for the stuff you want

  • I've never even tried adjusting my rear or my front derailleur but with this guy's videos, it's a piece of cake.

  • The Best bike video I have every seen. Thanks

  • OMG...thank you so much for this video!!! I was having problems with my gears not shifting and skipping and was at the point of going to a bike shop and spending up to a $100 bucks to get the gears looked at...but you saved my money and my sanity! :D

  • This is the best instruction I've viewed so far. . . .Brilliant. ..

  • This is excellent. . . .

  • "shift more than one cog at a time"

  • Nice :D

  • thanks

  • Brilliant ........thank you

  • Why can't all bike maintenance videos be like this?

  • @MrAlexedit because the important thing is the person demonstrating the maintenance, not the actual clarity of the instructions, we are all here for the sparkling personalities of mechanics from Smalltown USA local bike shop, it doesn't matter if we only get a vague idea of how to fix things and sometimes confilcting advice, or opinions on equipment rather than just knowing how to do something.

  • nice, plain simple and decent walk true ! thx a million !
