it's really sad that people are scared of north korea. they have like 5 nukes that only half work, and the US has thousands that can be dialed up with like 100x greater yield.
I was doing research on North Korea because I was bored. If they were to suddenly start a war with the US, the US bases in South Korea would die in less than 3 hours. If we entered their country, it would be vietnam all over again but worse. Their military equipment is actually better than ours.
Their equipment is not better than ours, they're outfitted with surplus weaponry from the soviet union after the cold war. Which isn't to say that they aren't a threat, they have a massive amount of older but functional equipment. The problem is that they can't support long term combat, they don't have the industry to support a war machine. We wouldn't need to put one soldier on their soil, a carrier battle group could just bomb vital targets and leave.
They are the ones that taught the Viets how to dig under ground tunnels. Bombing North korea would be tough because most of their bases are under ground.
North Korea is a threat to the countries in their immediate area. They are not a threat to us simply because they cannot afford it, they don't have the industry. Remember that we're talking about a country that can't afford to keeps it's cities lighted through the night. As far as underground bases go, that problem has long since been solved with precision guided bunker buster bombs.
North Korea has been putting their economy into Military since the 50s. Since I can't copy and paste some of where I get my research at, google North Korea Battle Tactics and choose the first one.
could they fight us? yes. could they win? no. I won't argue that the US downplays their strength, but that article reinforces my own point that their equipment is salvage and surplus from 30 years ago. your source is also is also subject to bias as much as our press because the article was written by a North Korean. They would put up a good fight on their turf but if worse came to worse it would be an easy task to bomb them back to the stone age.

@krazykittykatkiller The fact that they have nukes is a superficial factor as to why no one has removed Kim Jong Il from the power, even if they didn't have nuclear capability no one would because there's nothing to gain. few if any nations will invade and forcibly remove a governing power only because of the injustices they inflict on their populaces. they would only do so if there were some kind of large economical or political gain, hence why they've only been "negotiating" for so long

Further more they have no method of intercepting such threats themselves, whereas the US does. It would be a joke to even call it a nuclear "war" North Korea would be reduced to a crater within hours.
