The white horse is Camargue variety, I think. They are small, pony size, but have big scary eyes and a dramatic appearance. Probably suited well to the small stature of the actors involved? If I can believe the stories, Taylor wanted this dramatic whipping scene. She sure knew her drama! Brando is just great in this, everyone was. I regret I lent my movie out years ago and it was lost. The book is just superb! Thank you.

@jfkjrlover he took her horse out for a ride but it freaked out and run threw the forest against his control. When it finally stopped he was freaked out and whipped the horse with a branch. She found out and BOOM!

Uh, no. She is NOT a whore. If you watched the beginning of the clip, you'd see that the Marlon Brando character brutally beat her horse. Getting whipped in the face is a small price to pay.

Elizabeth's close friend, Montgomery Clift, had been slated to play the Marlon Brando role here, but unfortunatley, Clift unexpectantly passed away shortly before filming was to begin. Clift's wonderful intensity would have been perfect for this part, though Brando was certainly well-suited for the role.
