problem: it looks like they did take the pictures at different distance. ( they did not use tripod on the last shots is my theory ). To really have a good test you have to have the camera on a tripod to be sure about the distance.
When so close, a few cm will have great impact on photo.

i don't get ur point... u might have to do some more test with ur Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. I am sure it can give u much better results than what u have tried in this video. Also please try to be on the point rather than wasting my time coz half the video u do is crap.
Is it possible to have the Canon lens set to other than f/2.8 aperture? Isn't this supposed to be a constant aperture though the whole focal range from 70 to 200 mm? Hmm... I thought you couldn't change the aperture at all, but now from what I understand the f/2.8 is the smallest f-number you can have throughout the whole focal length, but you can still choose to have it set to like 4.0 or 5.6. In other words it's not affected by you zooming in and out. That's one cool lens!
I haven't watched one of your reviews for a while.. your getting funnier. Nice job fellas... "that blooming guy.".. "if anything, the Sigma is a good paperweight"... "modelling inspired by that tree".
Enjoyed it a lot guys.. thanks. Mind you .. Canon vs Sigma 70-200.. no contest.. Have you done one comparing a Tokina 11-16 with a comparable Canon. I'd be interested in that.
bokeh is totally subjective... Honestly, i prefer bokeh of russian Helios 58mm f/2@5.6 - sort of a swirl, harsh and strong bokeh... I really hate canon's "sweet and soft, milky and cute" bokeh
Was anyone else shiting their pants with the cameras so close to the water? And WHY in all that is good on this earth is there a nikon strap on that 5D?
Canon might have just a little bit better quality but comparing prices.. I'm not sure how much Canon costs but in Finland sigma costs about 200euros and i think Canon is about 700-800euros.. So i prefer more Sigma because it's almost 4 times cheaper and there is not much difference in quality.. Sorry about my English if you didn't understand what i mean lol.
I don't like both of them. The DOF is so obviously hard edges for both lenses. A good bokeh smears the transition much more smoothly. The sigma seemed to do that a bit better, but both can not compete with German primes. We can't really judge how stripy or silky the lenses are due to low contrast in the backgrounds, but I think the Canon is silkier.
looks to me like you mixed up the apertures in the comparison shots at the end. have an other look at them and you will easily spot the mix up. like your vids though.
canon is better bot youd evpect that for spending another $400+ personally i think the sigma holds its own against the canon considering its a 3rd party lens. still need a lens that can focus as quick as the human eye though.
It looks to me like at the end of the video, where you are making a side by side compare of the bokeh (at 5:34), you mixed up the Sigma images for the f/2.8 and the f/4 shots since the f/4 has a background that is more out of focus than the f/2.8 which would never be the case, no matter how crappy the sigma is.
@genspire Its because of the focal length, look how in the "sigma at 2.8" you can see more ground under the post, and bigger part of the bench X legs.
And, as you now, the longer the focal length is, the smallest is the focus zone
I'll go with Sigma, since I shoot Sony anyway. I would like a comparison with the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G SSM lens. With that said, if I had money to waste, obviously I would buy the Canon. BUT many of us don't actually make money from our pictures and it is a hobby (expensive one at that) have slightly less bokeh is a non issue. I would just use my 50mm f/1.4 if bokeh was the end goal.
I enjoy DRT a lot. Kai is entertaining but I would say that as far as gaining insight into equipment, DRT is a complete waste of time. However, for entertainment value.. not bad .. I think you should give Lok a more prominent role. He seems to know quite a lot about cameras & photography. Kai, you are ok but Lambie is under used. She needs to contribute more. She is a charming woman but her clothes are junior high schoolish. Keep up the good work.
on 5.30 comparison, at f2.8 canon is a lot better, and then sigma is catching up on f4 and f.56 the closest bokeh between those two with Canon is still better especially on the far background
I have tried both several times, and the Canon is a bit sharper at f/2,8...but that is easily fixed in photoshop...$1200 difference made it easy for me choosing...I have the Sigma, which, by the way, won the EISA award 2011.
the $1200 I can use on the Canon EF 135mm f/2 instead....
I would personally say either the both seem to focus the same the sigma has a good depth of field with distance where as the cannon does the opposite.
Bokeh of the canon is way much better, but tthe color it produces is darker than the one the sigma produces....... But I would still go with the canon, cuz I LOVE CANON!
I use the sigma for my track photography, works like a charm for me. Love it! I'd love to have the Canon, but with funds...the sigma is a winner for me. Best bang for the buck imo
lol at the guy at the beginning. i mean i feel sorry for him but the timing was pretty fly. and yes, the canon did poo on the sigma, much much sharper with better contrast
Ugh, the amount of things you drop and break or nearly break drives me crazy! I just about want to come and carry things for you so this doesn't happen... And I'm a clumsy bugger myself!
@mrmeadowsiscool +1 on that! The price difference in magnitude of $1,700 is not justifiable, at least for me, for the relatively small difference in quality. That said Canon will be Canon :)
@samsungthepimp you have to see the full res images to tell that canon blows the sigma away all day in real life but if you only show your pics on youtube, flicker and facebook and never print or make money with your photogaphy then ya dont spend the money
@bboychance He seems to do this a lot. He holds his camera without the strap. He'll put a lens on a flat surface near a river and use it as a subject. He'll change his lenses without sitting down or even stop walking. He's either really ballsy or super pro. But probably both.
@odedia I believe a 5D Mark II is being used to record the episodes. I don't know about the lenses but I think different ones. Idk tho but I've seen that camera.

btw people should know that the sigma is a 3rd party lens and for 3rd party lens is not that really bad...i would still go to sigma + its made is japan vs the canon made in thailand or somewhere in china!!!!
@kathleen023 is canon a Japanese company? i think it is made in japan not in thailand... you maybe referring to Nikon... which is originally from Thailand...
@schiz430 what are u talkin about nikon and canon is originally japanese company even sony, sigma, tamron and the tokina they all originally made in japan company they only made it on other country like thailand, china ,taiwan, and malaysia because the labor there is cheap...but in japan all the dslr is made in japan....why do i know because im half japanese..
