Solder balls that attach GPU to the motherboard became bad. This is typical reason of RROD.In your case, the connection is not fully broken. When the GPU heats up, a damaged solder connection stops working => artefacts and RROD.

Or, it may be a different reason. Your Xbox may be overheating. Remove dust out of it.

Tip: if your xbox360 doesnt do the green light sync order and all four green lights light up after 10-15 second you are most likely to get rrod.

@LowLeveledPower I disagree, I have owned 6 360's and 4 of them red ringed at some point in life. First was due to a dvd drive failure(samsung). The next one had the heat sink seperate from the mobo, the third one was a jasper mobo, lasted about a year then the gpu over heated and was so degraded after the incident it impossible to see what was happening in the game. The last one had a hard drive failure and was easily fixed. I repair, build, and sell computers for a living. I treat them well.

@LowLeveledPower it just happens, I have the Type S or slim, whatever you want to call it now and it's been going good since launch and I have had many 360's for months that I leased for tournaments in my warehouse and all of them were fine and they were badly mistreated. HOWEVER I had 2 launch PS3's and they both gave me yellow light of doom. Wasn't interested enough to buy a third. My friend's did the same and he bought a newer model. His "slim" ps3 has lasted quite a while.
