in the conversation between the torque and the hp, it deals more with gear ratios, as its possible to achieve 300 hp, and 720 torque, first gear. so therefore yes you can have more torque than HP, only at a gear change though, just keep this in mind when you make a formula or claim a formula is incorrect...

Torque will ALWAYS be lower than the HP in any engine, as it looses energy throughout the power-train.

You dumb daft bastard, HP will always be greater than torque. Here is the basic mathamatic formula that factors in this and proves it(assuming your smart enough to figure it out).

HP = (TQ*2.0*PI*RPM)/33000.0

TQ = (33000.0*HP)/(2.0*PI*RPM)

Thus HP, looses it efficiency(thus resulting in a lower rear-wheel torque) along the power-train due to outside forces(resistance and friction) at work.

Any engine reaches it maximum output of Horsepower at it's highest RPM range, thus resulting in it's peak output of torque at the rear wheels. To claim that torque can be greater than HP is to say that HP is greater in the low RPM range of any given engine.

Are you saying you can never have more torque then horsepower? First off you equation is a RATIO generalization. It's a closed system estimation for a particular car. It might get you close depending on what car its for. It assumes that all engines are the same and that torque is directly related to horsepower. Neither are related, they are measurements for different types of work(energy). You can't find out how much horsepower you have just based on torque on every car.

Now lets test your ratio.. My turbocharged car produces more torque than horsepower. I had it dynoed at 291HP@4700/319TQ@4200. Now according to your ratio, my car produces way more horsepower than torque. However it doesn't. Why? because that ratio was derived from some other car... Lot of cars, particularly turbos and diesels, produce more torque than horsepower. There are so many factors involved that you cannot create a generalized formula and use the ratio for all cars.

Yet the formula clearly shows that as RPM increase torque is lowered. Also we are talking rear wheel torque not engine. Was your dynamo at RW, or specifically engine? What are the numbers for torque at 4700RPM?
