  • To any home owner watching this who is contempating installing a Navien on there own, don't. Although this video demonstrates a novice installation it would not be considered acceptable by most proffesionasl. It may have passed an inspection, but these heaters are fairly new and many inspectors do not know what there looking at. I would also point out that Navien only sells their products to proffesionals and will only warrantee products that have been installed by a proffesional.

  • @1978STi Of course this is YOUR opinion. This install has served our family well for almost three years now. The Navien water heater has been virtually trouble free as has been the install. Perhaps the home inspectors that reviewed our installation were not as ignorant as you imply.

  • I Install a lot of the Navien product. I highly suggest putting a power surge bar on your unit and all Navien units to protect the fragile computer.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, I think you are correct. Like any other electronic device, the Navien can be susceptible to voltage surges.

  • @PigNorton

The Navien has surge protection buit into it, external protection is not required, however I just installed one on my panel that protects the entire house.

  • The Fuse inside the Navien product is not a sufficient surge protector. Please read your manual.

  • Please forgive my harshness...I see many many dangerous situations and most are from home owners treating these like a weekend project. Most plumbers don't know how to correctly install them. Don't take it personal. If its safe and you're happy with it...well, than, there is your kudos

  • Installation was done per manufacturer's specifications and with the consultation of a plumber. The dog is exceptionally cute. He is actually a Jack Russell/Pug mix or Jug for short. He loves his hot baths.

  • My puggle loves hers too

  • What does it cost for this unit? I am seeing guys charge $3700 to install one of these things. I have the gas, electric and a water softner. So I am thinking of just installing it myself. Where can I purchase?

  • Gas pipe...did you account for the pressure drop associated with CSST? Or did you just make it 3/4" like every idiot says to do? As for 98%....Learn your product, it's 98% at a 30 degree rise, your lucky to get maybe 90 at 60-70 degrees of rise. I will say what I did like....the dog! I like Pugs

  • The first 50 feet are 1 inch csst the final 25 ft are 3/4 inch. Plumber confirmed supply pressure is within spec.

  • Whatever! I'm just the guy that fixes them and trains inspectors on proper installations. Outta work?LOl I think not. Gas drip leg is too short (8" required, but most inspectors don't know things like that) There is distance required on the sides of the heaters, you have your cold right next to the unit.

  • 2006 IFGC does not mention a length. Our inspector is happy with 6 inches, mine is 7 inches.

  • Not only is that installation ugly, but is is very illegal. Call a real professional, and good luck with that flow sensor and mother board!!!ur gonna need it

  • Apparently you are a plumber without work so waste time criticizing others. The install has received many kudos from plumbers and the inspector who also issued a CO without hesitation. So it isn't illegal either. As far as the flow sensors and mobo go, they are both working nearly 8 months later. Navien warranties them for three years, 12 years on the SS heat exchangers, so I need not worry for some time. So I'll keep enjoying the hot showers while the 98 percent efficiency saves me cash.
