I wish people would stop blaming the media for everything. Eating disorders come from more than just a desire to be thin. It's a control issue

@somethingfishy6 yes a control issue. and how do you think it starts ? do women just one day wake up and say ohh yeaa today i wanna control my body to death .... no. its a long processs its takes time for someone to go from dieting and excersicing to extreme diets and to not eating at allll. everywhere we go, even in our own homes on tv! we see it everywhere. the media is also the one that has the control issue and wants to control their customer's wants and needs. to a horrible extent.

Since women can't handle the media, developing DISEASES from looking at images, and obvioulsy lack the self-discipline to not buy the magazines, not watch TV. Perhaps the best solution would be to remove their rights to access these channels of the media? Responsible parents do it for their children. It seems like us responsible men will have to step in and do the same for teenage- and adult women.

Wow. That is all kinds of sexist. You do realize that, first off, it's usually men who direct these commercials and take these pictures, right?

Also, perhaps the media wouldn't negatively affect our self-esteem as much if men weren't looking at the models and talking about how hot they are.

Finally, let's not pretend like men can't be negatively affected by the media. They can. The media sends tons of messages to men about what being a "real" man is, and to ignore that is also being sexist.

It projects a number of ideals - ranging from loving old grandfather to edgy businessman with shaved head and predatory eyes - in order to sell the product to men who identify with that specific ideal. As far as I know, no man has ever taken these "messages" like a woman would and, for example, tried to speed up the aging process in order to adapt to the "Werther's Original"-image of a real man.

Everyone must know that all the pictures of those women that appear on magazines are modified and retouched by photoshop, I can say that because I use that program, but let's face it, trying hard to look like them is it simply a waste of time because the shape of their bodies are not even real.
