You pretty much got what you asked for, Penn. I'm fine with people arguing their beliefs. I'm not OK with proselytizing. It's really just hard selling for Jesus. If you believe a glass penguin orbits the sun, by all means write a book about it. However, don't stand outside my window with a bullhorn or assault me on the street with that kind of nonsense.
I have to agree with those who thought from the beginning that this would end in disaster. Religious people always seem to take your words to a dark place.
I sure wish I could see this video. Too bad I'm not allowed to, since it is censored outside the USA. I thought Penn didn't like censorship, guess I was wrong.
Crackle/Sony are the culprits, and Penn is still using them, so it's just as much his fault. He is supporting the censorship by continuing to do business with them.
The idea of camps for children where they indoctrinate them is just sad. Shouldn't childhood be fun? I don't recall a lot of laughs on those Wednesday nights when I was sent to Catechism class.
At least wait until they are teens and you can scare the crap out of them about sex. They tried it with me!
I don't mean to sound like "I told you so, Penn"....but telling all people to follow their beliefs to their fullest, no matter how whacky or zany those beliefs are, deserves some footnotes before you release them upon the unsuspecting world.
Evangelistic gram? you should do a bull shit episode particularly on the NT with looking at the contradictions and shit.... that might help with the "we are praying for you stuff"
If your analogy was the "pushing out of the way of an oncoming truck" bit-- it is flawed. Maybe next time say "pushing out of the way of an invisible oncoming firebreathing dragon that only they (imagine) they can see"... religion is a mental illness, and although benign in the minds of some (giving them solace and helping them face that everything entropies and goes away in time), there are always going to be the violent fanatics like the Taliban and Fred Phelps, until the Human Race moves on.
Wow. I like how dickhead aheists like to pigeonhole religious people and belittle them as if it were their duty. The illusion is that you are smarter than they are. You aren't. I'll say it again. You are not smarter than a christian, or better in any way shape or form. You can make all the criticisms you want as long as you remember that.
tkweige::::as long as you worship a god that promotes and condones rape, murder, genocide, child abuse and dismemberment,,,,,then I am smarter than you are.
well maybe Penn showing your video might be a little good cause just knowing of you is probably the first non far left, non far right person they have ever seen and might start them asking questions at a young age. its pretty easy for them to see what else you say all they have to do is get curious.
Those people are not the "norm" for christianity. I swear, atheists live in their own little world. Everybody does, but ironically, atheists are quite fanatical about it.
Amazing how a religious group has so little to work with these days that they latch on to such an insignificant clip and make a mountain from it. Religion in whatever form needs to be personal and one on one if you have it. Why? Because if there's anything after you die you're standing alone, friend.
How typical of them to take your generous advice and use it against you. I should know; I used to be one of them. I'm so happy I'm an atheist now, lol! :)
From my past experience, there's a lot of pressure that comes with proselytizing: The heavy weight of being an example to EVERYONE you meet; having to live a life that is considered "above reproach;" and all sorts of other mess people can live without having to carry around. I'm glad I'm rid of that burden so I can be free and enjoy my life.
Many christians should think twice before prostleytising.
Many sects belive that those people who were never exposed to the word of god before they died will get the chance to accept Jesus aftier they are raised from the dead.
I don't belive in the christian god because there is no evidence.
But... Being raised from the dead would be enough evidence to get me to belive.
So basically I have been damned because someone tried to foist thier religeon on me, I would have been saved otherwise.
The E stands for...Haaaaaaaaa! Thats so Dam Funny! You go along with them in the name of community spirit and now you have hundreds of Children Praying for your salvation! When is the Atheist Salvation Bus Tour!?! Haaaaaaaaa! All those little children want for uncle Pen not to burn in hell! Come on now!
You give an inch and they take a fucking mile, I don't know if you will actually get to read this, but I'm curious what your thoughts are on the Texas public schools mandatory reading being a Bible now? KLTV 7 did a story about it, but I'm sure a google search will reap results also.
Hundreds of years ago the simple act of "pushing" nonbelievers out of the way of the truck was called the Inquisition. Encouraging proselytizing will only serve to bring back such practices.
Now those fuckin Jesus kids are gonna look at you bonking your head against the wall, and say "we're exorcising him, it's working!!!!"... LOL
But seriously, the cool kids are going to watch your other videos and ditch that bible shit. LOL Then they're gonna start saying fuck in class, and making fun of it all, while they're stnading in church, smelling each others' stale farts in the abysmal clutches of useless boredom
You'll be happy to know that Ray Comfort is not only spreading this story, but he's selling it as a part of his conversation with Thunderf00t DVD that he's selling off his website. I think coughlan666 has the full uncut discussion between then, and certainly Thunderf00t does, but yeah, Comfort's selling you, Penn. $15.00 a pop from what I hear.
When I lived in Orange County, I always thought about going to Huntington Beach on a saturday morning just to pop Ray Comfort right on the jaw. I regret not having done that now.
You know the moment you lay hands on one of them, everyone in their community is going to call them a martyr and celebrate them for it, so I don't know if that's such a good idea, Scrapheap, but I feel the frustration!
I'm not sure if he still goes, but he used to be at the Huntington Beach pier about 10:00 am on Saturdays. Take a look at his channel and see if he's gone there recently.
Maybe he stopped. I know Thunderf00t was explaining the actual psychology behind what he was doing to people when he would ambush them. If he is as good as he wants people to believe, he'd have stopped.
Thunderf00t is a physicist from the UK who is also a YouTube vlogger. He has a number of videos about the wonders of the universe, the beauty of earth, and his most popular series is "Why do people laugh at creationists?" which has several episodes. He is also VenomfangX's (the original one) arch-nemesis. He's currently on a car tour of the US, and while he was in California, he offered to have a discussion with Ray Comfort on camera.
o his a physicist thats kool wasnt sure wat his field always wonderd lol...figured it had sumthing to do with biology since he shows a great knowledge of evolution...kool to know hes a physicist :D
As I understand it, that's just his current position, and he has had a couple of positions in various scientific organizations in North America and Europe. At least he suggested he had lengthy credentials in one of his videos...
Thanks for the reply (the other person above too).
I might have seen something for the "Why do people..." stuff and I am familiar with VenomfangX (not sure if I've ever watched an entire vid of his, though).
Did Ray Comfort agree to a discussion?
I'll look up Thunderf00t's channel - thanks again.
Ray Comfort originally told Thunderf00t that he would have a discussion with him on camera for $40,000. Later on, Ray agreed, and they had the discussion. Now, Thunderf00t let Ray know that part of the agreement was both participants could do whatever they want with their video. Ray chose to edit it and is now selling it on DVD for $15 a pop (including talking about Penn's story), while the whole video is available free on several atheists's YouTube accounts.
According to rumor, $40,000 is the amount of money Ray was asked to pay to debate Dawkins (I believe, if not him then someone along those lines). So he's trying to find a way to get Thunderf00t to pay it, one way or another...
I wonder why these guys need to (if it's true) have that amount just to debate unless it's because they need a set, camera crew, audience, etc. or if that's what they get in a check just for showing up. If that's what they're really into, I'd think they'd do it because they want to.
Dawkins did it because Comfort punked him off one time, so he wants Comfort to make it worth his while. Comfort either did it so Thunderf00t would pay his charge to Dawkins or because he likes money. I lean more towards the latter since he sells everything he can get his hands on.
40,000 just to talk to him? I could understand travel and other expenses like that, but if that's true, I think that's something that could go against what he professes to stand for. Did you do a search for what I said above? I wonder how many of his supporters would be shocked if they read that if they're not familiar with that subject.
I'm pretty sure the Dawkins/Comfort 40k is public knowledge. If not, then here's some breaking news for you: Dawkins won't debate Comfort unless he pony's up the cash. Guess Comfort should have been saying unseemly things behind Dawkins's back.
I've been Christian all my life - never heard of an Egram; something unique to that camp I gather? Anyway, Christians are just like any other section of the population, wherein there are mostly ordinary folks who live and let live, but also some on the edge of wacky, and some completely fucked in the head. I'd classify this as on the edge of wacky. I think these churches, groups and leaders need to refocus their sermons on Christ and stop obsessing about Penn's simple message of tolerance.
Penn's house is VERY unique- from the outside it looks like a prison block, because he doesn't want fans hounding him at his home (obviously). I don't know this from experience, i just don't remember what show i saw it on...
Dude, whatever, no sympathy. I love you and all, but even all these Christians who are "respectfully" asking to use your video about that are relying on young impressionable christians to take it out of context. Bibles make shitty gifts.
Egram? The hell? Sounds like a chain letter. I'm a Christian and I find what that guy did and what he sent you creepy in the extreme.
I always kind of wondered why you mentioned that proselytizing vid as much as you did because if I were you I'd assume I'd end up inundated with books and emails from people trying to convert me and that it would just get annoying. I'm kind of embarrassed now by how some Christians are responding. Their actions, not mine. But still... Awkward!! :S
If you saw a truck coming, then you most certainly should push someone out of the way even if they don't see it. IF there is a truck. But, there isn't a fucking truck!!! The dogmatists are are essentially trying to push atheists out of the way of an imaginary truck. If you push someone when there is no truck, then you are just a fucking dick who doesn't know how to mind his own fucking business. How would a Christian feel if someone from a different religion pushed them "out of the way"?
You say there is no truck, but if a Christian, Muslim, Jew, etc "knows" there's a truck, and they don't try to push you out of the way, then they are way bigger dicks than their constant "pushing" makes you think they are.
As for "how would a christian feel?", I give them the respect they give me (a "you're a dumbass" gets a "you're a dumbass"), and feel good that someone thinks enough of me to care about my soul.
I'm not saying everyone has to be like that, though.
Sure, anyone can mean well, but good intentions don't get you very far. This is why I have spent a lot of time researching logical reasoning and telling others how great it is. I guess the Xians are showing that they care, but they have a fundamental flaw in their reasoning because they don't know how to think critically. Whenever I have imposed myself on others because I wasn't thinking critically I was 100% wrong and so are the Xians. They should take some of that energy to examine claims.
It's irresponsible and potentially harmful to act on beliefs that you haven't examined. That is why the Xians are so wrong. They need to find out if what they believe is actually true. After all the truth can never be destroyed by examination. Only falsehoods can be harmed. If the basis for their beliefs is so true, then what do they have to worry about by questioning it? Seems suspicious to me. If they refuse this and impose themselves on me (what they feel is caring), they're wrong.
I think that you missed the point entirely about the truck analogy. You don't think that a truck is there, but somebody who is about to be hit by one rarely notices or thinks about it until it is too late. Aren't all things imaginary in a way?
No, all things aren't imaginary (see "Null Hypothesis"). If they were, it would be nice to have logical reasoning back that assertion up. Plus, even if I and everything else was imaginary, I would still be interacting with stuff in the same framework so it would be as useful to me as reality if it weren't imaginary.
There still needs to be a demonstration that there is a truck and why the Xian truck is the real one and some other religion's truck isn't a danger. Why do Xians refuse to let other religionists push them out of the way of the truck that they see according to their other religion?
Is it for Engrams, those Scientologist things that are something about ancient memories supplied by aliens that if you rid yourself of them you break the mind control the aliens have on you...???
I had warned in that video 8 months ago. Penn's sympathy for proselytizing was misplaced. Looking squeaky clean and speaking kind words is not their expression of concern for us. They are buying favors for getting into heaven. Penn had given them an endorsement to harass and feel good about it. And now they have used it to pollute the mind of young children. He ought to feel stupid and silly. He was feeling too too sure of himself for his own good as well as not being critical enough.
Penn. It's Evil-grams brother. ;) Glad I could help.

Well, if you've ever loved, that makes you love. The bible says god is love, so that means you're god by RC's logic.

Ray Comfort's logic is so much bullshit. Let's apply the same format to other things.
Have you ever gotten naked? That means you're a nudist.
Have you ever eaten a vegetable? That means you're a vegetarian.
Have you ever drank alcohol? That means you're an alcoholic.
Implying that something you do on occasion defines your whole lifestyle is as ridiculous as the rest of Comfort's baloney.

Ray chose to edit it and is now selling it on DVD for $15 a pop (including talking about Penn's story), while the whole video is available free on several atheists's YouTube accounts.

god needs money!!
do you know how expensive it is to maintain streets of gold?
SuperAtheist 2 years ago
According to rumor, $40,000 is the amount of money Ray was asked to pay to debate Dawkins (I believe, if not him then someone along those lines). So he's trying to find a way to get Thunderf00t to pay it, one way or another...
hgryphon 2 years ago
I wonder why these guys need to (if it's true) have that amount just to debate unless it's because they need a set, camera crew, audience, etc. or if that's what they get in a check just for showing up. If that's what they're really into, I'd think they'd do it because they want to.
FateEternal 2 years ago
Dawkins did it because Comfort punked him off one time, so he wants Comfort to make it worth his while. Comfort either did it so Thunderf00t would pay his charge to Dawkins or because he likes money. I lean more towards the latter since he sells everything he can get his hands on.
hgryphon 2 years ago
40,000 just to talk to him? I could understand travel and other expenses like that, but if that's true, I think that's something that could go against what he professes to stand for. Did you do a search for what I said above? I wonder how many of his supporters would be shocked if they read that if they're not familiar with that subject.
FateEternal 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure the Dawkins/Comfort 40k is public knowledge. If not, then here's some breaking news for you: Dawkins won't debate Comfort unless he pony's up the cash. Guess Comfort should have been saying unseemly things behind Dawkins's back.

Penn really dug a hole for himself when he posted THAT video.
He should probably post something else telling Christians to leave him alone.

Penn, you had some nice rhythm there at the beginning with the head banging and the door hitting the wall... Make a song with that.
Yeah, I'm not sure what an egram is, either. Never heard of them...
I can say that I wish you weren't an atheist and I wish you would accept Christ as your savior, but I'm not going to be a dick about it...
Contrary to what some have posted, I hardly think this kids' camp was being jerks about their feelings.
Still, I thought church camp was about studying...
tybo09 2 years ago
I've been Christian all my life - never heard of an Egram; something unique to that camp I gather? Anyway, Christians are just like any other section of the population, wherein there are mostly ordinary folks who live and let live, but also some on the edge of wacky, and some completely fucked in the head. I'd classify this as on the edge of wacky. I think these churches, groups and leaders need to refocus their sermons on Christ and stop obsessing about Penn's simple message of tolerance.

bj1126 2 years ago

How would a Christian feel if someone from a different religion pushed them "out of the way"?
milkboneunderwear 2 years ago 8
wow. well said. 100%.
Solarcoreg 2 years ago
You say there is no truck, but if a Christian, Muslim, Jew, etc "knows" there's a truck, and they don't try to push you out of the way, then they are way bigger dicks than their constant "pushing" makes you think they are.
As for "how would a christian feel?", I give them the respect they give me (a "you're a dumbass" gets a "you're a dumbass"), and feel good that someone thinks enough of me to care about my soul.
I'm not saying everyone has to be like that, though.
tybo09 2 years ago
Being delusional doesn't excuse you for pushing people. Either they get some facts and demonstrate this invisible truck or they're just dicks.
HailCthulhu 2 years ago
Sure, anyone can mean well, but good intentions don't get you very far. This is why I have spent a lot of time researching logical reasoning and telling others how great it is. I guess the Xians are showing that they care, but they have a fundamental flaw in their reasoning because they don't know how to think critically. Whenever I have imposed myself on others because I wasn't thinking critically I was 100% wrong and so are the Xians. They should take some of that energy to examine claims.
milkboneunderwear 2 years ago
It's irresponsible and potentially harmful to act on beliefs that you haven't examined. That is why the Xians are so wrong. They need to find out if what they believe is actually true. After all the truth can never be destroyed by examination. Only falsehoods can be harmed. If the basis for their beliefs is so true, then what do they have to worry about by questioning it? Seems suspicious to me. If they refuse this and impose themselves on me (what they feel is caring), they're wrong.
milkboneunderwear 2 years ago
I think that you missed the point entirely about the truck analogy. You don't think that a truck is there, but somebody who is about to be hit by one rarely notices or thinks about it until it is too late. Aren't all things imaginary in a way?
tkwelge 2 years ago
No, all things aren't imaginary (see "Null Hypothesis"). If they were, it would be nice to have logical reasoning back that assertion up. Plus, even if I and everything else was imaginary, I would still be interacting with stuff in the same framework so it would be as useful to me as reality if it weren't imaginary.
milkboneunderwear 2 years ago
There still needs to be a demonstration that there is a truck and why the Xian truck is the real one and some other religion's truck isn't a danger. Why do Xians refuse to let other religionists push them out of the way of the truck that they see according to their other religion?
milkboneunderwear 2 years ago
E-gram, which I believe is the same as E-mail. Like a Telegram would be from a phone line, E-gram is from the internet.

I'm gonna guess the E stands for evangelize. According to Webster it means "to preach the gospel" or "to convert to Christianity."

Religion going overboard again, taking a genuine message that Penn had and turning it to up to 11. Having kids pray for him.. THEY JUST DON'T GET IT.

Not sure if you comment on your videos, but I have a quick question for ya.
Will you discourage your children from believing in God/a god/gods when they're older?

I think he's said in the past that he will encourage them to think for themselves.
