Modern estimates put the Achaemenid army at 70 thousand or so, and the casualty rates, Achaemenid tactics, basically everything concerning the Persian side is bullshit made up to add more drama and make the spartans seem more heroic.
I have a question, just barely related to Greece: how & when is "ae" pronounced? In Caesar & Thermopylae, it's pronounced like "ee", but I think at other times, it's pronounced like "ay". (Blame my average American education...)

I'm really sorry for some of us Greeks who decide to spend their time trying to thrash such a beautiful part of history for both our countries.Yes,that was a battle we won against all odds,yes Spartans and allies showed amazing valor,but that doesn't diminish the amazing civilization of the Persians.I thing we both have our reasons to be proud of our history.I wish we were more open-minded so we could admire others beyond ourselves!

Depending on your definition of civilization, iranian civilization started at either 5000 or 3000 BC. if by your definition is an organised method of governing and culture with writing, then 3000 BC. if you mean settlements with a government, then 5000 BC. Research it.

@Yiannis2112 as far as i know greek civilization started at 1800 BC. Before this, there were only non-Greek-speaking, indigenous pre-Greek people that merely practised agriculture. whether they lived in caves? i dont care.
Depending on your definition of civilization, iranian civilization started at either 5000 or 3000 BC. if by your definition is an organised method of governing and culture with writing, then 3000 BC. if you mean settlements with a government, then 5000 BC. Research it.

Its a lie that Spartans were mostly gay they didnt punish gays but it was discouraged to be gay since they didn't help grow the population. The Xerxes you present as a "king of slaves" is in fact the same Xerxes who is praised in the Bible in the story of Esther. Unlike the Greeks, the Persian kings are praised in the bible (and other books) as heroes and noble men. And that praise does not come from nowhere.

Sparta was the ONLY ancient city state in Greece without city walls and towers just because the citizens firmly believed that the "walls" for the city are the citizens themselves.
Also they didnt have and not trained in the army archers cause they believed the bows and arrows are not a brave weapon to use and a way to fight.

Many Greek city states were bribed not to resist the Persians, but the Spartans weren't susceptible to such tactics and decided to make a last stand, together with some other Greek city states.
