When i click on the gradient map .. it does not open as a new layer instead it works on the 'sharpen layer'

i use this effect very often now.
at the end, i just add a thin film grain filter on the overall picture, to get closer to that old school footage

couldn't you just use levels or curves to achieve the same effect of the gradient map your using?
it is just as easy, and it gives you more control

Levels will give you a totally different effect.Try it if you don't beleive me! :)
