@BlackForgeSteel Liquid fuel is much better than solid rocket fuel. Solid rocket fuel was one of the reasons Challenger exploded. Also one of the reasons Wehner Von Braun left NASA. Also, there was the last 2 India launch failures, the Taurus rocket failure, the last Titan IV (which was the most expensive rocket failure ever), and the Delta II explosion (which destroyed a parking lot), all of which were due to solid rocket booster failure.

This is more for people that are actually interested. Also: good job on validating the stereotype that yanks are dumb fucks wanting to be spoon-fed everything.
Go watch the Discovery channel instead of leaving moronic comments about how you're entitled to being spoon-fed information.

This is not LE-5B-2 of the second stage. This is LE-7A of the first stage of H-IIB.

Very similar design to the SSME.
EndeavourLaunch 1 year ago
Looks like a copycat of the SSME platform. We just need to go back to disposable F-1 Engines.

yes it's japanese. You can clearly hear: Go, shi, san, ni, ichi... etc which is japanese counting down, then the man starts counting up on ignition.

無知ですまないけれど、クラスターエンジンならLE-7Aじゃないでしょうか。
LE-5B-2でもクラスター化のテストをしたんでしょうか。何のため?

I wonder if the start sequence for this engine is as complicated as the SSME?

Oops. Turns out this is the LE-7A so the cycle is probably quite similar to the SSME.
doverdx 2 years ago
@doverdx
You're right it is a staged combustion engine like the SSME.
Though it's design is probably more closely related to the Russian RD-0120 then to the SSME.
The vac ISP of it is around 440sec a little lower then the 455 and 454 for the SSME and RD-0120 but still very respectable.
Membrane556 2 years ago
Looks a lot like the SSMEs even has the blue shock diamond.
