back in the first area you walked into, your supposed to climb up all the way, and then go through the ice paths with the metroids. you know, the area with the shattered pipe. just climb up and up an up.

That's actually a Mochtroid, a failed Space Pirate attempt at trying to clone the Metroids that escaped into Maridia... You fight them at some point there, I'm just not sure where...

Why would you take this route to Maridia? It just makes it take more time and guides you away from an energy tankin the wrecked ship, and a few upgrades in Maridia.
