  • My favorite book is a none super hero book the Walking Dead.I hope you can do a review on it soon.Thanx

and keep it up cause the show is great.

  • I've read the first 12 issues and its amazing so far.

  • Sup guys been a while

  • Welcome back.

    J.

  • and a small side note..... having the Witch Doctor the honor of battling in the greatest of Diabolic (wink) sin wars...

and now having a shaman steal the Sorcerer Supremes position...

    is pissing me off. lolz

  • hahah also i think the New Avengers is a cool group cause they are all relatively low to medium powered/stragglers, thats why i find it weird that Ms Marvel is in the team.

She is too clean cut and powerhoused - she belongs in the Mighty Avengers.

  • by the way i was actually impressed with the New Avengers - where they introduce the Shaman Sorcerer Supreme.

however im having to much fun with Doctor Strange at the moment to make him shit.

The dialougue of "bitch this and motherfucker that" sounds very McFarlane.

so yer.. i think they are finding more of what people want.

BTW i just have to repeat myself and say that Thunderbolts #129 is a great issue to explain Norman Osborne and his dark riegn.

  • i don't understand the point of having a new sorcerer supreme when everyone already loves Dr. Strange. This whole arc just seems like a waste of time to me. I can't fucking wait for Bendis to be replaced on this book. I still think Matt Fraction should be writing it and I can't wait for him to completely upstage Bendis on Dark Avengers.

  • lol yer, not only losing his poisition but doing it from the back seat of a quinjet.

lol.. i mean the Doc has faced the heart of chaos fir fucks sakes.. is hes going to (temporarily) lose his esteem let it be worthy of its position.

  • Bendis thinks he's the new Chris Claremont. He most likely will not leave New Avengers until he's written 100 + issues.

  • oh yeah, but at least you got a lot of story in a Claremont book....well about 4 stories all in the same book lol. With bendis your lucky if you get 1 story....and a lot of sitting around eating

  • Yeah, but all the stories are about fucking CrossTime and Magneto being misunderstood.

  • the thing is..there are mystery, comics and horror comics and then there are ACTION comics..

and what makes better action then people with Amazing, Fantastic and Incredible powers??

  • Invincible is awesome, i recently bought the 3 hard cover collections and the last 3 trades. I've only done that with the Goon trades and most recently Scalped. All of them are worth every penny and are addictive to read.

  • what do you guys think of ms.marvel? i think Reeds been doing a good job.

  • HE's been doing an AWESOME job, in fact, Trollz.

    Elliott

  • Running around a few of the topics, I think that the problem more or less is that there are some innovative runs that are panned by fans. I have heard so many people complain about Morrison's run on New X-Men but I thought it was a great take on the mutants that actually moved somewhere.

I guess you could say Dark Reign in the resolution to SI but the problem is its all forced down the readers throat. I really wish they'd stop trying to suck all our dollars up...

  • That's a good point. What's the incentive for the Big Two to bring in new voices and push new, innovative takes on the genre when we're seeing time and time again how those very innovative ideas and new voices just don't succeed in sales? And I think the superhero genre's dominance IS part of the problem. There seems to be some acceptance of "gritty" non-supers books like Criminal, Scalped, etc, but then something like Air comes along and NO ONE I bring it up to could give two shits.

  • In short: yes, the companies are part of the problem (but God bless DC for at least trying new things and having people like Morrison and Rucka in their corner... Marvel is to be credited as well for a bit of innovation, but it seems like a lot less to me), but a bigger problem is the people BUYING the books. As Elliott as said, the market speaks. Or to be more crass and over-general: most people are morons and they like moronic things.

  • AIR lost me when I tried the Amelia Aerhart issue (#6 I think) and the artist obviously couldn't be bothered to open up a reference book and draw the correct types of japanese fighters and instead just did some generic sloppily drawn stuff. That just put me off, I couldn't read the rest of the story properly.

  • That's fair. At least you TRIED it, which is more than I seem to be able to say for a lot of people.

  • Also, re: the Powergirl cover (I'm the one that made that "sleazy" comment), I wasn't aware of the multiple covers thing. I like cheescake as much as the next guy, but I guess maybe my problem is with the Powergirl costume in general, which has always seemed just beyond the line between cheesecake and blatant sexuality to me.

I did buy the book, and so far have found myself too bored by it to get more than halfway through, so it seems like my first instinct of cover = shit comic was correct.

  • Okay, not "shit", more like "meh". It wasn't completely terrible like I might've thought, and again I haven't finished it, but it's sort of saying something when a 22 page comic book can't retain my interest long enough for me to finish it in one sitting.

  • not a fan of the costume either, it's too much male wish-fulfillment crap. makes me feel a little sleazy myself. probably why i'm gonna skip this series. Plus, i have no real interest in the character to begin with anyways.

  • And to again clarify my statement from before, I actually really don't think you review too many superhero books, because again, that's mostly what I read. And now it seems you're clarifying your earlier statement to that you'd like to see more things done WITHIN the superhero genre, and I agree with that. But when you were bringing up manga and all the things it does, you seemed to be saying that comcis shouldn't JUST be superheroes, while at the same time mostly reviewing superheroes.

  • What, no rebuttal, guys?

  • Not really. I agree with you.

    J.

  • What, with EVERYTHING?

I thought there'd be at least some debate here. That seemed like one of the points of this segment in the first place.

  • Note that I'm not trolling for an argument, I'm just genuinely curious as to what you guys think.

  • Ok. Here's the sad reality. Anytime we review manga or indies the view count for that video are almost always low. People just don't care to hear us talk about certain things. That won't stop us entirely from doing those reviews. They will just be few and far between.

Elliott and I are going to continue to talk about the books we're into even if those books aren't cape related.

    J.

  • Yeah, as I said on the comments for you indie review, it's really fucking sad that people just want to read and hear about the same bullshit. Which is no knock on you - I always knew you guys read a lot wider variety than what you necesarily talk about on here, and thought more than three people would be interested in hearing your thoughts on different kinds of books, but I guess I was wrong.

  • the invincible comic is tied as the best comic running right now , that and gm's batman stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    that's my take

  • soz to change the subject - but i went out and got Thunderbolts #129 because i love how it epitomizes the Dark Reign saga and how it characterises Norman Osborne.

but i just noticed something.. The Green Goblin wears a PURSE!

    lolzzz

  • Isn't Marvel Noir an attempt at revising heroes?

  • I thought it was Marvel's attempt to jump on the noir bandwagon...

  • unbreakable so underrated

  • Like I've said before Invincible is a full meal of a comic.

He packs so much into one issue, few writers today have that ability to do so much in 22 pages

  • if Invincible's a full meal, I must be bulimic... read the first hardcover awhile back and didn't get the fuss

  • Yeah, maybe its gotten denser, but the first six or however-many-there-currently-are trades are *really* quick reading - like half an hour to 45 minutes tops. That's not bad, and a fair amount actually does happen in each, but as a read it's a light snack at best.

  • I think kirkman is my fav writer out there right now because he really does give you such amazing character development. Hands down Invincible is my favourite serires and I just can't wait for more. It should be on people's read list for sure. Ryan Ottley is a top notch artist as well, props to both of them.

  • Great nod 2 a great artist, E.

    Mr.Stevens should be remembered fondly&often.

    k...o...

  • I gotta start buying Invincible. Have you guys read any of Kirkman's run on Ultimate X-Men? I really enjoyed it.

  • I stayed away from all the ultimate stuff but I really enjoyed his run on Marvel Team Up.

  • Biggest problem there was he didn't seem to nail the characters fast enough and the Apocalypse resolution was way too forced.

  • Please upload the second part today!

  • To me a good super hero comic is more than a straight up cape and tights, super hero romp. They are crime, espionage, noir, drama, comedy, what-have-you, all rolled into one. It's kind of a unique meshing of all genre's that makes super hero comics special... if they are done right that is. Might be why they are so popular.

  • mmmmm I dunno...the best superhero comics are like you say but I can't help feeling that most are appealing to the child in us....although thats not entirely a bad thing either.

I wish more people read things like Battlefields but they won't and that series will just be a footnote whereas Jeph Loeb will continue to write mega-selling rubbish like Rulk...

  • you're right, and i do enjoy other types of comics, don't get me wrong, i was just speculating as to why all of us 20 and 30 somethings still love our super hero comics so much.

  • I think its something to do with having a more open imagination . I tend to find that there are two main types of comic fan, the fanboy type who have never really grown up and buy what marvel and wizard and whoever tell them to buy. Then there are the ones who have an open imagination, like non mainstream types of music, are politically aware etc

  • that's true. It seems that most ppl who frequent CCW would fit more in the second category. The guys do a pretty good job of weeding out the fanboy types, who i know for a fact that you and I have both had our share of problems with ;)

  • Invincible is such a good series. I've started reading the series from issue 51 and I love every issue that came out so far, although in my opinion the Invincible war should have been a to issues super size event because alot of the fights haven't been shown (like the Atom Eve fight).

The cover for issue 64 is sad to watch.

  • New episode!

I was super bored yesterday so I rewatch the first season and it was really nice!

In two week the new issue of Red Mass for Mars (issue #) will be release... can U guys review it. ( I still haven't read it because I can't find issue 1-2 so I'll probably wait for the trade) Also I've ordered Transhuman trade and I hope finish reading it and all of the Hickman's Image series.

  • Nightly News & Transhuman freakin awesome. It's seriously dense man be forewarned
