@Velmarshal Ahh, Jeremy Soule! Agreed, that man is a genius! Total Annihilation, The Elder Scrolls III-IV, Supreme Commander, Dawn of War... I've never seen anyone that can manipulate the music of video games as well as he can, even when big-name movie composers are commissioned. When you are interactive with the story, it becomes that much harder to fine-tune the music to befit any scenario--and Soule has gotten it to an art.

I have to say, DoW II is one of the most well-designed micro-intensive strategy games made today (SCII is cool, but just isn't as complex or rewarding as DoW is), but I wish they would update the original DoW with better graphics and an updated AI. It appealed to me as a more macro-intensive player, and DoW II was, if nothing else, a bit disappointing to someone who enjoys large-scale warfare rather than squad-based hero warfare.

Suffice to say, it's still a great game =)

@OverchargedTeslaCoil If you have Dark Crusade, you might want to check out the Mod Firestorm of Kronus or the recent Firestorm over Kaurava. It is a massive graphical update on the original game engine, adding new units and an entirely different mechanic of game play, it's closer to the table top in terms of units.

It's worth it.

No, I am not fucking retarded, and I am very aware that THQ made both. My point being is that DoW the first games evolved into DoW II gameplay because of the creation and design of CoH. THQ took the easy way out and pasted the COH gameplay onto the DoW series which disappointed because I looked forward to DoW II (as I played COH a ton).

@hisnik636 No, Dawn of War II is a strategy game. Dawn of War II is focused much more on terrain and in-battle thought (this is generally referred to as "tactics", or micro in RTS terms). The original Dawn of War was focused more on resource management and numbers, and terrain mattered very little (this is called "strategy", or macro in RTS terms). They are two different kinds of strategy games, but just because Dawn of War II isn't the common type does not mean that it isn't a strategy game.

The Gellar field protects starships, and demons can't access the material realm as easily as you think. I'd say the Imperium would lose about 3/4's of its size, but the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Imperium would eventually smarten up just on need of survival alone...plus, with the decrease in size, their command structure would become more effective. The technology to travel between the stars without the astronomican would be developed (or re-discovered, rather).

@Connacth1 I think you can forget about the Eldars and the Tau Empire ... The Eldars aren't crazy enough to risk their life in an attempt of destroying the main human world and the most defended one. As for the Tau Empire, their space travel technology doesn't allow them to travel as fast as the other races ( Excluding orks maybe ). That's what explains why their Empire isn't "that" big.

Your points were countered well enough in another post, but I'm going to add my tidbit about the Tau. The Tau actually were expanding MUCH faster...until they realized just how massive the Imperium was compared to their empire...basically, think flea on an elephants back. The Imperium, if it even concentrated a quarter of its military might against them, would crush them from weight of numbers alone. As we saw in WW2; superior tech is good (Germany) but numbers win the day (USSR)
