The mustangs are not starving..unless their water and food is blocked off by ranchers...on public lands. Cows and profit are the problem.. not the horses! The us already has an overpopulation in domestic horses, why send these to slaughter? The wild mustangs shouldn't be gathered up at such numbers. It makes me feel disgusted at what people just do for their stupid selfish reasons such as cattle grazing. Right now the BLM with the help of Catoor Livestock via helicopters is chasing herds with week old babies over treacherous ground at breakneck speed for the Tuscarora round up. So far 12 horses have died..... you've have bought into the BLM lies & cover up. These horses belong to the American people and I'm sick of my tax $ paying the salaries of these evil liars. If it's so good why won't they allow public observation.... Horses are dying while the BLM is lying.

What a bunch of crap. Ken Salazar of the DOI who oversees the BLM is a wealthly cattleman & oilman. They now have 32,000+wild mustangs & burros in holding pens & during 2010 plan to remove an additional 12,000+ WM&B & place them in holding pens too. All of this is at the expense of the taxpayer! These WM&B belong to American taxpayers as do the lands that were set aside for the protection of the icons of the west. Salazar & the BLM refer to our horses as VERMIN. They want the land for cattle!

BLM actually does care about them. my uncle has actually purchased some blm horses and they do come and check up on them to make sure you are not treating them poorly. people are so close minded these days, they listen to animal rights goups and dont see the truth. If we left every horse out on the land, they would indeed starve to death from over grazing, so we must take some away to save hundreds more. But people tend to see the few taken away and not the hundreds/thousands saved.

Wild horses would also be locked out of the best pasture with the most abundant water during the driest time of the year. At the time, BLM justified its decision by arguing that wild horse populations in the area were minimal.

Wild horses comprise a minute fraction of grazing animals on public lands, where they are outnumbered by cattle at least 200 to 1. The 1971 Act states that, in a given area, a certain amount of vegetation may be eaten as forage. Only when that amount is exceeded are there too many animals. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has overwhelmingly favored cattle in setting appropriate wild horse population levels, resulting in indiscriminate removal of horses and burros from public lands.

Wild horses are not suffering from drought and starvation. Mismanagement is at the root of most of these problems. Despite federal protection, wild horses have been relegated to the most inhospitable areas of the range. Still, they have adapted and survived; most horses rounded up by the BLM are well-fed and healthy. However, public land fencing often prevents horses from accessing scarce natural water sources and disrupts their widespread grazing patterns.

The main cause of degradation of public lands is livestock use, not wild horses. Cows graze within a mile of water, while wild horses are highly mobile, grazing from five to ten miles from water, at higher elevations, on steeper slopes, and in more rugged terrain. A congressionally-mandated study by the National Academy of Sciences found that, in one year, livestock consumed 70% of grazing resources on public lands, while wild horses and burros consumed less than 5%

In its 1982 study, the National Academy of Sciences found annual rates of increase of 10% or less in wild horse populations, a far cry from the 20% increase relied upon by the BLM to justify its removal program. Wild horses do have predators, in the form of mountain lions and bears. In 2004 for instance, only 1 out of 28 foals survived in Montanas Pryor Mountain area. Such low survival rate was mostly due to mountain lion predation.

Only the ones that have exhausted their food supply. They're meant to be rounded up, otherwise they'll eat all the food, and since they no naural predators, they'll die a much sadder way than even if they ever went to slaughter. Dying of starvation is much worse then being slaughtered or hunted.

i can agree with that however how many of those stravation situations have we as humans caused by fencing off th lands that they roam? Well, if we didn't fence off the lands the different Herd Management Areas (HMA) would all start roaming together and then there would be LESS food. And these horses haven't been here all that long. Only since the start of the U.S. And they have plenty of watering holes in the wild. I've been to many of the HMAs and seen this. The water isn't an issue, the food is. They live in deserts where there are no natural foods to begin with.

i adopted a blm mustang. shes a year old bay roan filly. and shes doing great. she already follows me. i wish everyone would just quit complaining, i dont see any of them going out there and helping the mustangs. the blm is doing the mustangs a great thing, b/c then they get great homes where they never have to look for food again. the only thing i think is that the blm should find a better way to round them up instead of chasing them over rough terrain for 30 miles with a helicopter.

No. Thats not true. Slaughter is outlawed in the U.S. Its illegal. Not only that, but when someone adopts a mustang the government owns it for the first year in effort to keep the horse from being underfed, or abused. This means that the horse wouldn't legally be the trainers to sell. If they were to get rid of it it would be a $25 transfer fee, and the BLM would still own the mustang.

Good question! I have presented her with many issues that will have to be addressed well before she even drops the first tailgate.The boundary fence will have to be wired with low voltage to keep them from wandering back onto public lands. Secondly,the 30,000 plus horses will all have to be cleared by a team veterinarians to assure they are not spreading any transmittable diseases to the proposed ecosystem.

great video. i know all about the BLM. i actully own a mustang. trained him from the time he was 2. hes 5 now. and my barn owns a second mustang. both were captured in Nevada where there was nothing for them to eat. *if you want to see him tell me. i put up a pick. theres no pics/videos of him on my channel.*
