I must say that this tricks is two different things.
Wisdom of crowds on the one hand, which is all nice and so on.
And a "cheap" trick on the other side. Either it has to do with the sync, or it is just splitscreen (which would be VERY poor for Derren's standards) or I don't know. At least, I am 100% sure the numbers on the balls on the plinth were not there before they were read. Anyway, I am pretty sure they need more than 1 sec to exchange the balls, which makes it nice - if it is this case
Having thought about this, there are several aspects
Sure wisdom of the crowds is working. And what they did until DERREN wrote down (random) numbers in the other room was all OK and he was lucky to get 4 out of 6 (maybe by using some maths).
Each drawing of the lottery numbers is physically and mathematically independant from the last one. So it is IMPOSSIBLE to predict these numbers if you dont know every variable of the machine (which the people didnt).
Can't say I noticed the first ball move myself. the balls were in a far shot for most of the time and you cannot make out whether any of the balls have moved or not, he does not reveal the balls until the end, you do not get a close up of the balls at the beginning. More likely a rigged plinth.
Really don't think it was a camera trick or anything less than genuine. When he starts this promo up he claims that he's only going to get five out of the six for sure, the logical progression from when they got 1, then 3, then 4 numbers, right?
Most of his tricks rely on psychology. Why would he call it a year of his life? He's done the "trick" over and over, making sure that by week four he'll always have five out of six of the numbers.
what is interesting about Derren this time is that if you look up the "Wisdom Of The Crowds" explanation it is true and I am not just talking Wikipedia, which gets things wrong. I looked at 3 sources which seem to not only back up what Derren says but go further explain different sorts of "Crowd Wisdom". This might explain why lottery syndicates do better than individuals. All we need now is a really big prize and a huge syndicate.
im sad to say that im disappointed :( i mean, he obviously did the fix!!
if it was the willpower of the people then obviously he wud of proved that its real cos its only a theory, and there wud of been a lot more attention to it from scientists etc. and it wasnt a very hard experiment so why havtn dey done it before themselves?
Remember, Derren himself described The Events as "4 acts of misdirection."
I enjoyed Derren's explanation as an exercise in enthralling storytelling. Watch with that in mind and you can kick back and enjoy the ride he's taking us on. Once he's done, then you can try to figure out what was really going on and if any clues were dropped along the way.
I particularly liked going back and seeing him say he didn't fix the draw. Twice! That's what liars do. I think Derren did that intentionally.
"We could have had some lottery balls made which were 20g heaqvier than the real ones (which we didn't) then we could have got our informant (which I did not) etc.................(It;s ridiculous !!!)"
Like a naughty schoolchild being told off for something he might or might not have done perhaps - but didn't - maybe !
I don't think it was split screen. Split screen would not need any permission from Camelot. I think that both the BBC and Channel 4 both delayed the signal by the same amount at the same time, thereby preserving the BBC's right to broadcast the result live first - both feeds would appear to be in sync even though in reality the draw had already taken place a minute or so before - so it like "Almost Live".
Either that or the plinth was rigged to somehow put the numbers on the balls
You could always get the whole set of results for the last year from Camelot's website in Excel Spreadsheet form. It would be easy to work out the averages for every ball and then bet on those numbers to see if Derren did actually predict the balls - doubtful though
I reckon the plinth on which his predicted balls sit has a lot to do with it, either that or the delay which was also done at the BBC AND Channel 4 AT THE SAME TIME. So both would appear to be in sync with each other, even though the lottery had already been drawn.
I wonder if the feed from the BBC although live, was delayed through to Channel 4. If the same BBC delay was sent out nationwide then Derren could get the numbers in advance theoretically. It would however take the participation of the BBC for it to work though, hence the meeting with Camelot - maybe.
You're welcome friend - just wait till tomorrow and we will find out how he did it. I did it in Wide screen for you lot - After all Derren deserves it.

So, believing in this myself firstly...

look carefully from 5:45 onwards, the first ball floated upwards. Was it a split screen? are the balls changed?

I like the bit right at the end:
"We could have had some lottery balls made which were 20g heaqvier than the real ones (which we didn't) then we could have got our informant (which I did not) etc.................(It;s ridiculous !!!)"
Like a naughty schoolchild being told off for something he might or might not have done perhaps - but didn't - maybe !

yea i changed my mind, he didnt do the fix.
sadly im actually being persuaded by the split screen theory :(

He would have bee locked up had he fixed the lottery - it's owned by the Queen and operated og her behalf by Shamalot er sorry Camelot !
computersolutions164 2 years ago
Fixing the lottery would have been illegal -
I reckon the plinth on which his predicted balls sit has a lot to do with it, either that or the delay which was also done at the BBC AND Channel 4 AT THE SAME TIME. So both would appear to be in sync with each other, even though the lottery had already been drawn.
