  • For my friends Johhny and Susie, out in Santa Cruz

  • Man I sure hope that guitar case was empty (2:40) - or at least there was a crappy guitbox in it!!

  • It's the best of neither of them; glad it exists but meh.

  • It's weird that this version sounds more like Springsteen's music and Springsteen's take sounds more like a Cash song. It's like Cash read the lyrics and just assumed that it would sound a bit like early era Springsteen so he never bothered to check the music notes.

  • i like johnny cash, but this song is not meant to be upbeat. it is a depressing tale of a down on his luck working man who committs a murder and then wants to die because of his shame in not being able to find a job. just not the right style for this song.

  • I did NOT know this existed.

  • Cash IS THE FUCKING GOD OF MUSIC.....HE IS THE ONLY SINGER THAT CAN TAKE ANY SONG AND MAKE IT HIS OWNE!!!!

  • "The auto plant in Mahwah" was a real place. It was a Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Mahwah, New Jersey that opened in 1953 and closed in 1980.

  • Cool take on a great song!

  • I like Bruce, and I love Johnny, but I'll definitely take Bruce's original over Johnny's cover in this case. (I prefer Johnny's "Hurt" to the NiN original, so it's not like I'm averse to covers as a rule, but...)

  • I especially like the rock version Bruce played on hs most recent, "Working on a Dream," tour. Do a youtube search for, "Johnny 99 springsteen." The Meadowlands performance on May 23, 2009 is representative.

  • Taliano crime boss was lucky to here the real reason behind the song. It's based on the trial of butch muss line, famed

  • It just doesn't have the pathos that the original does. It feels almost joyous compared to Bruce's incredibly stark original demo (Nebraska was released as the original 4 track demo tapes).

  • loving this. almost like he wrote it, love it, love the little change of lyrics too

  • loving this. almost like he wrote it, love it

  • i remember when i drink when i was young i drink and drive and play this song all time,,,, i love it ,,, and i not drink more,,,,, tanks for this song,,,,,

  • Great but i like the live version Bruce duz with the e street band

  • getting some perspective

  • for president obama

  • makes it soo much better to be from mahwah and listen to this

  • A great version of a really great Bringsteene tune. I look for the good versions posted online by the truest fans. This is a classic tune by Springsteen, and a classic version by Johnny.

  • @elizabethbrown7540 It's Springsteen.

  • terrible production

  • I don't really care for this version much.

  • I hate country But Mr. cash is the man.. The man in black to be exact

  • @robinsonruiz86 That Rhymes :D

  • johnny cash is the man cant wait to die so i can meet the man in black

  • adore JC xxx

  • so cool, thanks :)

  • How can you not love that man and his music?

  • good cover but i prefer Bruce's one :)

  • Funny thing about this song, is that it makes you feel more upbeat about Johnny. As if he may have got off. Springsteen's version, well, I'd like to know where Johnny's funeral is.

  • @burkezillar Ever heard Bruce's live version

  • Very nice , haven't heard this 1 before , very good!!

  • Amazing, Thanks for this!!!!

  • This is a great version. Love how Elvis' guitarist Burton plays here.
