Actually, nelyat13, wool is the absolutely BEST thing you can wear when you're wet and out in the cold! Unlike other materials, wool does NOT lose its insulating properties when wet. Take it from a Rocky Mountain snow-caver in the US - I wouldn't choose anything else! Oh, and, where I live, it has reached -64C (with wind chill) many times.

Never wear cotton in cold wet weather, such as in a snow storm.

Wear synthetics in snow storms. Such as fleece and nylon. Fleece as a insulator and nylon as a shell.

Cotton soaks up sweat and doesn't wick it away or dry easily like synthetics. Furthermore, wet cotton is a conductor of heat. It draws heat away from the body.
