  • this is awesome :) I actually prefer this to bowie's but bowie did a good job too :)

  • great bass.

  • bowie's version is about 100000 times better than this!

  • @carazoe2k11 WRONG!!!

  • @carazoe2k11 so wrong, ha ha.

  • @carazoe2k11 I've been a Bowie fan for 40yrs, his version comes nowhere near close to the dynamics in the original.

  • Scott Walker is messed up though

  • i <3 scott forever

  • genius.

  • Serving some of Scott's amazing. Pleasure to the ear ...

  • OH...OH MY GOD! YES YES YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!

  • Escuche sta vesion con David Bowie y me facino, pero escucharles en esta versión original, me abrió las puertas para ser fan de Scott Walker.

  • Scott walker is what to me an ideal artist is! Everchanging never stoping space man!!!

  • Eat your heart out Peter Gabriel!

  • @loversdie Hahahahaha!!!!

  • Scott Walker for President, and for Pope.

  • god damn, son! this makes me want to write a great novel in french and die!

  • @MsIfuckinghateyou go for it

  • @xxpiggystardustxx gopher it?

  • @MsIfuckinghateyou ewe serpently cun

  • @MsIfuckinghateyou I came here because of your comment on the video 213 nightmare

  • @mothman1997 same song, but this is better.

  • definitely some Station To Station here. futurist white guy funk from hell.

  • What came first, the Walker or the Bowie? The Walker. That's why we love Bowie so much. But let us not forget Scott Walker.

  • This song could be used for the final scene of space movie involving epic battles. That's what the intro makes me feel.

  • That's right. No dislikes!

  • SO good.

  • Bowie knows the shit when he see's ( sorry hears ) it .

  • its so good to see so many positive comments on something so deserving one of the greats he loved Jacques Brel Bowie loved him we love them all

  • fuck

  • @johnnyfarout no thanks

  • This is by far the best version of this song, but an honorable mention has to go to The Fatima Mansions! The mighty Cathal Coughlan's voice suits it perfectly, and the band play a blinder.

  • @brunosis True.

The voice on this one here, though, is... eerie.

  • it's funny cos I did not know this song but heard it on bowies cd and thought, wow, finally a good recent bowie song - and now it turns out to be a cover version, lol. fantastic song!

  • discovering scott walkers music has changed my life . he is far beyond his time . he is a true artist.

  • Comment removed

  • I think the sound layers make this track and the electrician. Should have been heard more.

  • o my g-o-d :)

how come I'm huge DB fan and first time I hear this is this night.......

    shame on me

  • genius

  • Scott is a genius, hands down. bowie no comparison. love this song!

  • Holy crap. I can hear the influence on Lodger and Scary Monsters. I really love this.

  • I like David's vocals better...but the "instrumental" part is better on Scott's version. I dunno, I like them both a lot!

  • I love this album...

  • I still think that Bowie was influenced by Scott Walker and many have missed this point. Throw in a bit of Roxy Music / Eno for good measure too. But this track is from 1978- and after Low & Heroes. Vocally Bowie did change his singing style mid to late 1970's and the influence was for me Walker. Musically here though, I think the Bowie / Eno/ Visconti sound had an effect on Walker's career. This track is so derivative of the track Heroes imo that cross pollination is so obviously evident..

  • I love the first 4 tracks off of Nite Flights when Scott is singing, but I find the songs when the other Walker Brother is singing and writing to be cheesy and nowhere near deserving to accompany the rest of the CD. Does anyone else find this extreme difference?

  • @jrubin68

It was a democratic project, but the sequencing choice makes this a very unbalanced record. It all starts so electrifying, and then slowly peters out. The Gary Leeds contributions are plain awful. Scott should have reserved his Night Flight songs for a solo project. Perhaps one teamed up with Bowie.

    Lost chances and missed opportunities...

  • Bowie' Low came out in 1977, Nite Flights in 1978. So, it's more the other way around. This time Bowie influenced Scott. To me it seems that Bowie's attitude of singing, how he's using his voice, was influenced earlier on by Scott, by his 60's output. Anyway, Nite Flights is top notch in it's style and unique. Electrician goes far beyond of what Bowie made in the Berlin-era. But I'm happy I got both in my collection. These were the dark, experimental, ambitous 70's... pure atmosphere.

  • And now I only need the CD

  • I never know what to say when I hear this. I am so blown away. I just love it.

  • @Auntkekebaby Wow me too!!!!

  • Fatima Mansions does a version that is awesome...from "Lost in the Former West"

  • Knocks spots off Bowie's version:)

And I've been a Bowie fan since aged 9 yrs!!!

  • the whole album this is from is great

  • @Isolar

exactly, and it's easy to see where (aside from Neu!) a lot of Bowie's Berlin sound came from in listening to Scott's songs on Nite Flights. Again, I'm a huge Bowie fan.

  • i agree with you and Isolar

  • @baboon2525 but Bowie's Berlin sound pre dates Nite Flights though. x

  • @baboon2525

Bowie and Eno have both said, the Nite Flights album transformed their approach. They were both knocked sideways when they heard it.

  • @baboon2525

Awesome record, love the key change at 1:16

  • @Isolar

Totally agree, Bowie was miles off unfortunately,

and I am a big fan of his also

  • @Isolar

But Low and Heroes were both released in '77 while Nite Flights was recorded and released in '78.

I do hear the similarity, but to me this sounds more like Scott Walker's take on Station To Station.

Having said that, I agree this original version bests Bowie's take.

  • @Generatorhead I hear your relation to Station to Station in this song

about Bowie's Low and Hereos, I hear influences from Scott's earlier stuff, like Boy Child

Bowie had been a fan of Walker for some time, doing his version of Brel's "My Death" in the early 70's after Walker did an amazing version in the late 60's

  • Is this about dreaming?

  • this is gorgeous, but db makes it soar! jet engine to a biplane.

  • thanks

  • Beautiful huh.

  • Scott wrote this, and his version is the best.

  • I like to fly at diferent heights, low is more difficult than high. scott is divine, as always

  • great song..I heard the bowie version first......what a great song........love it

  • The thinking man's psychedelic pop song. The dark undercurrents in Scott's later work are already evident here (as in the superb "The Electrician", also from this album) , his majestic voice sounding anguished and somewhat alien.

    Faultless.

  • i have to confess i know very little of scotts solo stuff ...i'll have to look it up :)

  • Well, I admit I prefer his late 60's/early 70's solo works, but "The Drift" (2006) will let you in a whole new dimension, if you're willing to give it a try. Even if you don't like it much, you'l be sucked into the man's genius. :)

  • i'll listen to it ,,i listen to most music upload it and we will share :)

  • thanks for posting! like the comment below i kept listening to this over & over. I really wanted this album on cd but it was discontinued by the manufacturers. fortunately itunes have it on sale. you reminded me of what a great album this is & hence a well-worth purchase was made. now off to find the LP version!

  • your welcome :)

  • I've listened to this on replay several times, great song. I originally heard Bowie's cover on the Black Tie White Noise album. I do prefer this one though.

  • thanks :)

  • always a pleasure to thy ponce!!

  • thanks

  • dangerous good-in every way..

  • thanks :)

  • pure class....

  • Music from another world..
