Well well. I'll be damned. A BJJ practitioner who doesn't make out that BJJ > Aikido and that it isn't even worth learning. Nice little ikkyo inserted between the locks. good stuff
@novomlinski thank you for your input. unfortunately there are no akido dojos near where i live. instead im going with either jeet kune do or nunjitsu
I love what Roy is doing. I think both arts compliment each other very well. A group of us at one of my schools who cross train in different arts have been doing the same for a few years now. We have also found Kali/Escrima and parts of Wing chun to be very effective and help accelerate our own training and development. Keep up the good work and quality videos.
I love how Roy Dean blends the two arts. It actually improves both arts, he should create a new name for it and call it Brazilian Ju Kido. HAHA.. jk. Or Roykido or DeanJitsu... zing ! Im on a role..
i used to trained for 3 months in aikido and i got bored,,, some of the techniques must be accompanied by one person... it must be diad inorder to know the techniques..
But if you apply then BJJ i guess it would be deadly...
Ueshiba Morehei is a well known Jiu Jitsu expert/sensei before he form the art call Aikido. When he practiced Jiu Jitsu he noticed : what if there r multiple attacks? what if an attacker used weapons like samurai, long wooden weapons etc. Can an uke(defender) stop the fights without himself rolling on the ground?
It's all good! I train tae kwan do. I want to take jujitsu, but no place close enough. A lot of time people are limited by circumstances. Any art you take and practice will help you. Like my instructor says, "You get out what you put in."
@chrisl9 Aikido, BJJ, & Wing Chun.... unstoppable; Aikido is the hardest to get high up in the black belt department, because it requires more than how good you are as a martial artist, it also requires that you are a good person in general
@aquatiger1987 I've been studying aikido for about 8 years now .... getting ready for my dan. I studied several other arts prior to aiki and I founf the hardest thing about aiki is completely abolishing the use of strength and snapping movements. I feel that this is one of the main reasons the good dan grade is so elusive in aikido. Being able to perform a technique with jerking the movement and without strength is soooooo difficult but completely necessary to get the most from techniques.
been doing the same thing. Of course Aikido (jutusu) and newaza fit together. doesnt matter if you call the newaza - koryu jj, gjj, or kosen judo. people just don't know the roots (and connections) of these Japanese arts because they don't study. they have superficial understandings based on something they saw on TV. keep up the interesting work!
EXACTLY!!!! This is what pisses me off when it comes to people comparing japanese arts with others. They all share the same roots. Ne waza is Ne waza. I wish we stoped naming arts and just go back to doing it all. Like the samurai did. Standing, sitting, or on the back they were able to do what needed to be done for survival. GREAT STUFF!!!
@christlovemins actually when you said "for survival" samurai didnt always do it for survival. In combat samurai were very honourable so they had to ask their oponent if they could stand, if not they would have to fight on their knees.
He's got his own album, the Sound of the Way. It's available on iTunes. Just search for him. I downloaded it and love to train to it during Aikido, Jujutsu and Kenjutsu.
Professor Dean already useed a superior infusion of the Judo trips and throws. Now with the infusion of Aikido, it will make for the most difficult form of BJJ on the planet.
where is aikido here?

@Sknoob728 aikido...very deadly (breaking arms, legs) and YOU control how much damage you do and not the situation.

I think o-sensei eliminate the rough thing from daito ryu aiki jujutsu for purpose. This video's only shows the pieces has been united again.

@Locbroc... I think you may have missed my point. My point was that whether seated kneeling or standing they were functional.
Tachi waza
Suwari waza
Ne waza
The technician still has to work.
God bless and thank you for the dialog.

I like how he rolls into his moves. He is very fluid in motion. Then he applies the submission hold after the opponent is disoriented.

Aikido for self-defense, BJJ for free sparing and self-defense, I think that`s a perfect combination, I train both and one helps another
