Tommy was a great fighter back in the 90's, but we never got to see his full potential. He was diagnosed with HIV at 26 or 27(whether you believe he truely had it or not). Hormone and testosterone levels are at their highest at around 30 years old. I wish he wouldn't have gotten HIV. Then we could've seen him crush tyson.
Bentt got his career ended later from a bad punch from Hide. It's really a shame. He had a great amateur career and showed a lot of promise for the pros. It think he could have been a top Heavyweight if it wasn't for his injury. It's really a shame.

Morrison was a legit heavyweight with a great record and beat a lot of very good fighters. His career is nothing to be ashamed of.

Never understood Morrison's fight strategy in this one. Did he or his camp ever did any serious background work on Bentt prior to the match? Tommy could dish it out, but had issues taking it. He seemed to have no idea what to do when he got hit with a big shot. He froze up, no head movement whatsoever, he didn't even really cover up. He was practically begging to be knocked out.

Morrison was punching way too wildly. If you look when Bennt is on the ropes, Morrison's accuracy was horrible. Bennt waited and landed a clean counterpunch.

Simple...it happens to the best of them! Morrison came back and beat Foreman so he obviously put this loss past him. As far as the Mercer fight, watch it closely and you'll see Morrison was hit to the side of his head in a borderline legal punch which effected his equalibrium. Mercer jumpred right on him and finished the fight like a champion. However, Mercer was in serious trouble the rounds before and became a bit desperate which paid off.
I dont think Tommy "plagued by a weak chin" Morrison is fair i think his defense was more questionable not so much his chin. After all three knockdowns he recovers fast and gathers his legs i think he written the first knockdown off as a lucky punch he should have respected his opponent more after that instead of walking into more wild punches.
You could then argue what about his two other KO defeats? Well I think both the Mercer and Lewis losses were to a weak defense rather than a weak chin.
Klitchko's are champs by default. There hasen't been any real talent in the heavyweight division in years. Holyfield was the beginning of the end for excitement in that particular weight class. Lennox Lewis couldn't even pull sellout crowds; the heavyweight division needs help for boxing to make a comeback...
You would have to wonder if Morrission had a solid jaw, he cetaintly had power and skill, not great skill but iron jaw plus the power would have carried him a little bit further in his boxing career.

He won 11 pro fights and only 2 pro losses, he was WBO Champion. Bent had one more fight after this a title defense. Buster Douglas didn't have title long either but beat Mike Tyson, so what he was a good boxer to take on Tyson. He is not an average guy average guys don't fight for title. His career both Amateur and profesional was over 10 years.

He is regarded as the most decorated Amateur boxer to never Make the olympics.
Every fighter ranked in the top 20 of their division can fight or they wouldn't be there. You guys watch fights on television and think you're the experts. Go to a gym and spar for just 3 minutes and then you'll have an entirely different impression of the sport.

Wow, I remember this fight, what a surprise but it is cool when an underdog comes out and wins especially in a spectacular fashion like this. Michael Bentt really didn't do much with his career after this big win but nobody can take this night away from him and he deserves credit for it and he had his day, at least briefly, in the sun.
Michael Bennt was no easy fight. He was a very strong Amateur. He was not tin can like many champs line up till the next big pay day. Bennt used better boxing to beat a power puncher. Tommy got caught. His chin cost him here but on another day it may have been different. MOrrison should have one but it is boxing and much like footbal on any given Sunday the best person can loose

Tommy simply got caught. There is a such thing as being over prepared. He was so focused on he offense that he didn't watch for the counter. Bentt threw the damn punch with his eyes closed! TYson of 86-88 was still the best since ali.Tyson had the 3 yr conditioning 12 hrs a day ,fighting every 3 months.slipping every punch his opponents threw.TYson fought great for a few years. it's unfortunate he couldnt prove it with holoyfield or lewis in that period but I pick tyson over any fighter in history except ali and maybe young foreman.

Tommy could dish it out, but had issues taking it. He seemed to have no idea what to do when he got hit with a big shot. He froze up, no head movement whatsoever, he didn't even really cover up. He was practically begging to be knocked out.

Simple...it happens to the best of them! Morrison came back and beat Foreman so he obviously put this loss past him. As far as the Mercer fight, watch it closely and you'll see Morrison was hit to the side of his head in a borderline legal punch which effected his equalibrium. Mercer jumpred right on him and finished the fight like a champion. However, Mercer was in serious trouble the rounds before and became a bit desperate which paid off.

I dont think Tommy "plagued by a weak chin" Morrison is fair i think his defense was more questionable not so much his chin. After all three knockdowns he recovers fast and gathers his legs i think he written the first knockdown off as a lucky punch he should have respected his opponent more after that instead of walking into more wild punches.
You could then argue what about his two other KO defeats? Well I think both the Mercer and Lewis losses were to a weak defense rather than a weak chin.

Klitchko's are champs by default. There hasen't been any real talent in the heavyweight division in years. Holyfield was the beginning of the end for excitement in that particular weight class. Lennox Lewis couldn't even pull sellout crowds; the heavyweight division needs help for boxing to make a comeback...

Michael Bent was USA Ameateur Champion 1984, 1986 and 1987, He won gold at Beaumont in 1985, bronze at world Amaeteur in 1986 and 1987. He won 11 pro fights and only 2 pro losses, he was WBO Champion. Bent had one more fight after this a title defense. Buster Douglas didn't have title long either but beat Mike Tyson, so what he was a good boxer to take on Tyson. He is not an average guy average guys don't fight for title. His career both Amateur and profesional was over 10 years.

He even beat a 3 time world Ameteur champion Alexandar Yagubkin who had beaten every American he fought in the 3 years before that fight. He Lost chance to go to Olympics in a controversial decision to the eventual 1988 Olympic Gold medal winner Ray Mercer. He had been on the National team all 3 years before that. He is regarded as the most decorated Amateur boxer to never Make the olympics.

Every fighter ranked in the top 20 of their division can fight or they wouldn't be there. You guys watch fights on television and think you're the experts. Go to a gym and spar for just 3 minutes and then you'll have an entirely different impression of the sport.

Wow, I remember this fight, what a surprise but it is cool when an underdog comes out and wins especially in a spectacular fashion like this. Michael Bentt really didn't do much with his career after this big win but nobody can take this night away from him and he deserves credit for it and he had his day, at least briefly, in the sun.

Michael Bennt was no easy fight. He was a very strong Amateur. He was not tin can like many champs line up till the next big pay day. Bennt used better boxing to beat a power puncher. Tommy got caught. His chin cost him here but on another day it may have been different. MOrrison should have one but it is boxing and much like footbal on any given Sunday the best person can loose
