Speaking as someone from that area of the world, I think Emma actually cares, or she wouldn't have gone. She did the work that they were doing so she could feel the labor that it takes to make all of those clothes. People Tree is a fair trade organization, so those workers will get the amount of money they deserve from their work, as opposed to 5 cents an hour.
so i have a slight suspicion that sending emma watson to help indian women with laundry and teach math to 8-year old kids living in the slums won't change much..

we all watch stars every now and then in some movies, awards etc. and we do admire and appreciate them for their looks and acting..
but this, this thing deserve something more than admiration..
no doubt i'm a huge fan of hers...and literally influenced by her beauty..
but now i respect her for what she did.. i mean she's barely twenty and she's visiting a slum area, something people do when they crossed their forties..

Obviously, it does seem a bit hypocritical for a British Company to do this as they colonized them, but that was the British Govt- not the companies.

@loopylupin1130 Actually the British East India company first colonised the Indian subcontinent, it was only after the failed 1857 Sepoy mutiny that the British Govt took over with the creation of the Raj.
The British Empire has its foundations in trade. Bangladesh needs to wipe out 3/4 of its population, empower women and build infrastructure/education to develop.
Similar to the way the East Asian tigers have risen, as well as remove religion or lessen its influence on society.

@ImaginedWriter wiping out 3/4 of the population isn't really realistic unless you are being sarcastic here. As for the "religion" factor Bangladesh is a fairly moderate country when it comes to that. If people wants to follow it they do ... if they don't, no one stops them.

Speaking as someone from that area of the world, I think Emma actually cares, or she wouldn't have gone. She did the work that they were doing so she could feel the labor that it takes to make all of those clothes. People Tree is a fair trade organization, so those workers will get the amount of money they deserve from their work, as opposed to 5 cents an hour.

so i have a slight suspicion that sending emma watson to help indian women with laundry and teach math to 8-year old kids living in the slums won't change much..
i hope i'm not offending anyone, but this is my honest opinion.
and by the way, i'm saying all this as a harry potter fan. i think emma watson is beautiful and amazing as anyone.
(i think youtube is completely worthless if used to automatically bash anyone who has a different or more radical opinion from the majority)

first colonise them and ruin their cultures and political systems, suck out as much of their resources as possible, and now we feel guilty so send beautiful english girls from london to help them.. and making videos and documentaries about that, so that we can go back to our cozy little houses in london, paris, new york with our consciences cleaned. i find that not quite right..... until we won't change the whole money-hungry capitalistic system controlled by the North, most of this is worthless

@loonycushion I fear you live in a world full of pink bubbles. how should the capitalistic system be changed? I think it's the best system...it sucks balls but compared to something like communism that doesn't work at all anywhere it's still the best alternative that we have. I only see this changing if someone comes up with a clearly better alternative that works for human race. and I dont see that happening in the next couple of years, sorry.

there's something great and something not quite right about it.. beautiful, stylish emma watson going to india to show what a good and charitable person she is.. and then the photoshoot at the end of beautiful western people posing to help poor indians.. why not use indian models?.. i don't know, i'm not saying that what she's doing isn't for the great good.. but i just find it incredibly condescending and even degrading the way the west is helping poor countries in the third world..
