Aerotech/Rouse Tech, sells a 24mm reloadable motor system which can be loaded with E motors up to F motors, and are substantially louder and more powerful than estes motors. i wouldnt try a G in any ground RC car unless you're in a very remote location.
Yea I agree completely- I DO plan on using the more powerful motor, but I of course wont be doing that in a residential area. There are a few places that I've come across that I need to check out a little further...thanks for the advice!
I run as high as J570's 54mm rockets but You have to use a heavier car, they also make 17mm reloadables as well. What you need is not a higher impulse but a longer one, Like a D24, or D36, all you need is 2.5x mass in thrust, and the car will continue to accelerate, if the impulse is to great it will just put the rocket airborne.
for the rocket to go airborne it would need to be stable. also, a 1:1 thrust:weight ratio for going horizontal is plenty to get it moving, but that would require a REALLY long burning motor. which a D24 or D36 is going to be quite a fast burn. if there's too much impulse and not enough counterweight (frontal load) the car will spin out of control because the center of pressure will be forward of the center of gravity. that's a bad thing.
corrections. in the first mythbuster episode, Eric Gates used 3 Animal Motor Works N4000 motors fired sequentially.
im not sure Aerotech sells a single use E motor. however, they used to have a 24mm (estes E size) F21 motor. and FSI (old company) used to have 24mm F100's that would probably be dangerous in that car.
Well I'm trying one with a g or an h Motor goal is an I motor 200 plus MPH, you are going to love the video, I've got a mile long air strip I'm going to do it on, trying to keep up with it with a shelby cobra, that goes over 200mph
AF, Thats an interesting idea...I think we'd need quite a bit of ballast in the front end of the car though! I've already had an incident when the car went airborne- literally took off like a jet plane (air got under the body, lifted it up at about 10 feet and then the motor cut out- i can't make this up). I actually have a small aerotech motor I'd like to use..would you know how to ignite those motors? Can it be done with the alligator clip ignitor?
No You have to use a 12Volt Ignitor system for any composite Rocket Motors, they use electronic matches
Lots more power than Black powder, even the same size impulse. Remember each Letter up is more than twice the power of previous letter. I was Kidding about the J570 and k700 they have a 150ft/lb and 420 ft/lb the J is 37mm in diameter and the K 54mm. and you will also need to have a Level 2 Rocketry Licence. Aertech does mak an ignitor system for it you just use a 12v Car batterry.
Yes, Composite Rocket Fuel Needs a hotter ignitor, and you ignite the fuel grains from the very back instead of the front with Estes black powder motors
If you don't the motor will CATO on you (ie. explode) and there goes your car. You could use alegator clip directly to the car battery just be careful
That Aerotech E Motor will be 150% more Powerful than the Estes one will be. It should come with an ignightor that is flat and metal. Put tape on one side on top and one the other side on the bottom. So that each aligator clip touches only one side each of the Metal strip. Your leads will not be separate like in the Estes ones so each side of the strip is a different lead. I hope that makes sense.
Aerotech Makes Composites as Low as C size impulse.
All Require 12v ignightors. They even have reloadable build your own rocket kits as well much cheaper. Oh also What composite fuel does it Have? There are 4 types denoted by the letter at the End. B = Black Jack, W= White Lightning, T= Blue Thunder, There is another one that is Red but I forget the Letter, all I know its the same fuel as used in the Space shuttle SRB Boosters that NASA Uses.
By the way its pulling about 130 140 mph in a 10th scale quarter mile. It crossed a 300 foot parking lot in about 2 seconds. It's CRAZY FAST.There are pics on bigsquidrc com under the oct 7 midamerica r challange. check it. It's called terminal velocity.
Just? E9 rocket engines are HUGE. That car barely weighs 1 lb. It is built on a graphite Team Trinity Pro Stock Chassis- made for electric motors, not nitro. Everything is lightweight on the car. I would like a turbine engine, but I dont have money to waste. A 1 time use motor is just fine, and just as good. For 132 1/10 scale track, theres nothing better.

I would like to see what my J570's or K 700's would do
if we could keep it on the ground that is. We are talking 300 to 400mph true speed with a bright blue flame going back 6 feet

I just found the motor and it says "Type E"...its about the same size as the Estes E engine...this still requires a car battery to ignite?

If you remember the 1st Mythbusters episode Rocket assisted Chevy, they used 3 L motors and that got a full sized Chevy Impala up to around 300mph

Hey man, I'd love to see it, but I can't find it on the site, could you please send me a link?? thanks!

Thats pretty sweet! Ive scratch build a rail dragster that weighs 12oz powered by a f39.Its made out of carbon fiber.

it looks like just modle rockets put inside an old nitro car frame. is it just 1 time use modle rockets or is there more to it than that?
