  • Has anyone got any old pictures of jenny street in hollins area?

  • Why are asians taking over the town? (not being racist. just wondering)

  • I used to live two doors away from the Help the Poor Struggler in Hollinwood. It was run at one time by Albert Perpoint the hangman at the Nuremberg trials. Over the bar he had a sign No hanging about

  • Would make a great home ?????

  • bit like the pom .... reddish lane ..groton

  • plenty more to add to the list since then im afraid. rubbish isnt it, ( says me sitting here drinking a can, because i cant afford to spend £3 a pint in a pub). gotta be irony there somewhere.

  • This collection of photos of Oldham pubs is wonderful.

I spent the first 25 years of my life living in Oldham.

I took my 5 year old Son who was born in London to show him where I lived 18 years ago. I was completely ASTONISHED

I have posted this on Alternet - an American website where this Guy from Detroit was trying to say - "It's Great Here Mate"

    I said thats Fucking Nothing

You Should See My Home Town

    Oldham

We beat the shit out of Detroit

    Thank You - Great Photographer

    Tony

  • The Unicorn at Werneth off featherstall Road, The Elevenways at Westwood, what was the other one on the corner at Westwood....Colliers or something ???

  • @brazil10able Hello again! I'm doing the Oldham youtube rounds today! There was one in Westwood called The Westwood. I used to love The Unicorn, great atmosphere in there. And there was a one legged Elvis impersonator who used to come in on Sunday afternoons. Also used to love The Queens on Manchester Street aswell as The Hertford Social Club. And The Black Horse next to the old Ford Motors was a good pub too.

  • @scarletwest ....yes they were great old pubs.......in cold weather like we are having now, it was always nice to go into a pub in Oldham......my uncle still drinks in The Forresters and The Lark on Hollins Road.........not The George as I believe he fell out with the landlord!

  • I've been in all these pubs at one time or another and it seems a shame that so many of them have come under the hammer or been refurbished into unrecognisable bars...have you any old photos of Greenacres Road pubs ? There were quite a few pubs from one end to the other...and the Waste Dealers near the Red Lion at Cross Street....thanks for the memories! :)

  • WOT A SHAME,

  • i know all theses pubs ^.^

  • Thank you.

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • Wish you had named them an where they are, long time since I've been back.good show but sad.

  • See who is a in Racist your area :

    antifa4ever . webs . com

  • I am one of the Yanks the current Brits hate so much. That said, I love Britain and the English culture and traditions. I lived in England for a time briefly too. I am very saddened that the British politicians seem hellbent on destroying the best parts of traditional English culture. Do they want to be just a bland faceless p.c. EU state? Maybe so. I am almost afraid to visit England again because it doesn't seem to have the same character it did during my last vist in 1995.

  • @drummer78 Any good person doesn't hate Yanks or anyone else. I hope you come back sometime. I know what you mean though and feel like my world has been turned upside down. England is a little place but there are lots of differences from once place to another. Similar in different states, cities, towns etc in USA. Where I live is a little paradise and I feel lucky to live here and I have bought a little place in France to retire to. Good luck.

  • sounds like asianprincess has got a vindaloo on her shoulder about something?

  • What is this song?

  • What's curry got to do with it? If the pubs were doing well, then they'd remain, at least the buildings are being used. Bet you don't say all these remarks when your queing for your kebab after a Friday night! Irish forever!!!

  • I'd expect someone like you to make such a comment, not with any knowledge of our past culture then..incidentally,if it were not for a few beers down them, less people would be eating kebabs & curry as its after a few pints that we buy this slop, most sober people wouldn't go near it..UP THE BRITISH PUB!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lmao marked my comment as spam. . . Can't handle critism? So you say I don't know British past culture? I am sorry, I forgot the part where you KNOW me? I wont explain myslef to you darling, but trust me, I know much about the country I was born and live in. Don't stereotype me gimp, 'someone like you', like I said you don't KNOW me. I'd say a few other things but I've just come back from work and wanna sit back and relax, not argue with your a** on youtube. I bid you a good evening :)

  • Ilive in Oldham very sad state of affairs,A once thriving and great town to live, sadly no more

  • excellent video .. what have they done to our town? you can add some more pubs to the list live and let live, boundary, windsor etc etc

  • Hello,Great Video and very well done.Though I dont know the Oldham area I am sorry to see it too like many areas of England has lost some grest drinking venues.Your Vid is also similar to one I have done about my local pubs on, The Wirral closing down which you may like to have a look at.Tom

  • I never used to see myself as a Racist... until I started watching these photo compilations of Oldham! It started me thinking about how much the town has deteriorated over the years!!

I saw several pubs I recognised and frequented as a youth, and reading what seanduffy82 wrote lower down, I have to say... I AGREE! Most if not all of the Dead Pubs are now Curry Houses!

The one Pub I thought I'd see on there was the 'PARK HOTEL'!!

Now an Indian Take away and Ice Cream Parlour!

  • Racism is bad my friend

  • most of these featured pubs are now either curry houses or mosques!! its a disgrace what has happened to this once great town!!

  • Great stuff. But as an Oldham exile, I could have done with a few captions - back in the 60s, I must have drunk in most of these but some have changed so much I found them hard to recognise; the only one I could not place at all was the white one that looked like a house at 4.20. Can you help?

  • Indeed a House,White House on Oldham Edge
