I wound up in the ER with the very same thing, but in my right side and upper abdomin. Did you have any kind of local anesthic? The doctor deadened my area up but it was still very painful. They removed over a liter of gunk from me. Wound up having surgery to clean the area up leaving me with two surgery wounds, both requiring packing, another trip through hell! Now ager a week, I have no problem changing my packing and dressings. I do it by myself now!

I've had two really bad ones, and two minor ones. I went to the doctor for the really bad ones and they told me there wasn't any particular reason why some people get them and some don't. It's typically associated with MSRA, which apparently hangs out in your nose. It can just chill there forever, or it can ruin your life. A q-tip with neosporin in the nose may or may not help. For me, I always seem to get it when I'm around metal shards, or a gym.

well the packing you get used too, and in all honesty this shoulda healed in only about a month, but it took almost 2 since the doctor i was seeing didn't know much about this kinda thing. So i packed the hole longer then I actually needed too which stunted the healing process. You should only have to pack something like this for maybe 3 weeks, but I guess that depends on where it is as well and how large it was.

It swelled up like the size of a cocktail weenie, turned purple, and then ruptured while I was on the phone at work. It actually "just happened" :p One day I thought it was just a small pimple forming, day after that it was a little more discomforting and it seemed like a normal pimple under the skin. By the next day i was in constant pain and 2 days after that i went to the hospital. There were no other signs oddly, but such is life and atleast it's out of me now ^_^

They did give me some meds to dull the pain, but even without feeling all of the pain, you can't help but notice someone digging and cutting chunks of your back out :p Seriously, the abscess itself was more painful then the surgery if you can believe it. After the surgery i was in major relief and just happy the pain was gone.
