Wouldn't it be better to cap other pollutants such as SOx, NOx, Carbon Monoxide, VOC's such as methane, and toxic metals such as lead and cadmium. wouldn't that have the same supposed result (getting us off fossil fuels) The oil industry is polluting without a doubt. Big Oil and Big Finance want to profit off a CO2 trading scheme and inject CO2 underground to extract natural gas (fracking) and in the process (apparently nobody seems to mind) destroy fresh ground water.

Then there's methane from the cows you eat which is also a potent greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming.

If these gases didn't increase warming,. then the earth would only be 0 degrees centigrade- life wouldn't be possible. We have life evolved for a certain amount of greenhouse warming.

Why don't we Cap & Trade a basket of pollutants (not CO2)? SOx, NOx, Carbon Monoxide, VOC's such as methane, and toxic metals such as lead and cadmium. If they can trade a basket of currencies called SDR's, then they can trade real pollution and not just CO2. CO2 is not a pollutant, we exhale it and plants "breath" CO2 and "exhale" Oxygen. The oil industry is polluting without a doubt, but they don't want to cap the REAL pollution. That wouldn't be profitable for sequestration and trading.
