  • this happened to me before, its the ram. one of them must have gone bad. if 1 stick goes bad or is not inserted properly, it clears the memory banks no matter what.

  • try putting the drive in or if you dont have one buy one off ebay for cheap and pit in the mac os installation disk and hold c. that will bring up the installation and just reinstall the os

  • Did this start after you took the drive out? Anyways i had this problem its the RAM its not inserted properly!!

  • "oh yeah, my drive is gone" well that might just explain a whole shit load of things right there

  • Oooo, its been for ever since I had that mac, this is my new acc btw,

It happened to be a mobo failure, I got rid of it,

  • IF its a Bondi Blue iMac, That means it is sleeping

  • Sure it isnt the ram ?

it gives that affect on most macs

if it died im sure cause its a mac its easy to fix

  • I'm with them the PRAM needs to be zapped and or replaced.

I took my PRAM bat out and it still works.

    Faster actually with it missing!

  • Thought I'd Add to this list, This is a Revision D 333MHz G3, its Video Chipset is a ATi Rage Pro Turbo PCI. 6MB of video SGram (4 off and 2 onboard) and i replaced the PRAM battery, now it turns off with a poke of the front button. before it didnt turn off. think thats progress

  • Seph, there was a problem with emailing you, but i think it went eventually, so ignore the post above (the first part is missing)

  • Plug an external VGA monitor into this port and try starting up the iMac. If the first attempt fails, zap the PRAM (when booting hold down ALT+APPLE+P+R and let it reset a couple of times, you'll hear the chime). If you get a picture on the external monitor, you're half way there and you could either mod the case or tuck the unit in a corner somewhere with cables for keyboard, mouse and monitor coming from it. Hope that helps, anything i can help with, please let me know.

  • if that all fails dude, those Rev A&B macs had a problem with the copper at the end of the CRT melting away and killing the tube. If you open her up again, disconnect the VGA plug you can see and plug in a standard monitor. if it fires up, the tube is dead. I had an old Rev A that i removed the tube from, cut down the case and turned it into basically a desktop unit, with a monitor on top...worked like a charm ;)

  • Reset the Pram, take the battery out. Also try taking the ram out and replacing it with a newer module.

  • Hmm, that's odd. When you turn the iMac on, can you hear the hard drive? How comfortable are you with opening it up to look inside?

  • yeah, i can hear the hard disk spin up. cant really hear it on the video though, lol after i turned it on it still is on right now. lol, i can open it up, did that when i got the flashing question mark. this one has a 333MHz G3, and the mobo is a Rev. B, no mazzine.

  • Bring it to an Apple Store, or if you have the Tiger install disk try installing that.
