  • @chocolate96466 I've added you to the "YES" count. Sorry, I don't have any advice on how to stop earworms except that sometimes when I have one that is annoying, I listen to some actual music that I like for a while and it seems to make the bad stuff go away. Hope that helps.

  • Yes, why is it everyday I wake up I have a different song playing in my head?? I love music but it drives me crazy!!

  • @lopezdmnd22 Most of the time I love that the music's there but there are times when I could do without it too.

  • Yes, most of the time I have random music in my head and turn random sounds into patterns

  • Yes, I very very often have music going in my head. Odd thing is, I have little control over it, and sometimes it will be something just great and other times it will be something maddening, like "Popeye the Sailor Man," which WILL NOT STOP.

  • Thanks for starting that little earworm in our heads, Charles. TOOT! TOOT!

  • Yes. All the time. Most of my songs initially come to me without effort. Even when I'm filming my movies, the music that will be in the film is ALREADY playing in my head ;-)

    Cool Topic!

  • Yes, constantly! I couldn't live without it.

  • Yes I do. Reading "This is Your Brain On Music" and "Musicophilia" to learn more about ear worms and head music.

  • yes!

  • Yeah, but I ignore or enjoy it depending. I'm grateful for my musical memory as I suffered a sudden sensory neural hearing loss over a year ago. I'm now deaf in one ear. This is tragic for me as I have perfect pitch. I was born into a family of professional musicians. When I sing I only hear and feel with one side of my head. Why couldn't my hearing loss have happened to someone tone deaf (like on the stupid t.v. talent shows?) Sound is the emotional sense.. if any sense can be called that.

  • yes

  • Yes. -And when I'm not 'hearing' music in my head, I notice that I group general noises into rhythmic patterns. It really bugs me when there are clashing tones or more than one rhythm competing, too.

  • YES!!! I do that too! especially with machine noises which are already rhythmic but other things like clanking dishes and silverware in restaurants or people walking, etc. cause the development of a beat. Sometimes they remind me of a song which then may develop into an earworm too. A lot of electronic sounds remind me of songs that also get stuck in my head. Life is just one long presentation of Stomp!

  • I am always thinking abut this, sometimes I here music in my head all day, and not a song from the radio, but real compositions or original music I have never heard before. Cool survey.

  • yes I do!!! I would like to know more... thanx!!!

  • Yes

  • Yes. Especially when doing rythmic-based tasks like just walking, i synchronized the music playing with my walking... When I think about it, it's amazing. Tells us about how the most primitive region of the brain is wired to music. Somehow.

  • yes, most of the time;

  • yes,most of the time

  • yes,but if it's subconscious how would I know?

  • Good question. I know I don't know. ;)

  • Yes, I usually do have music running in my head unless there is pain in my body. I have to be careful because often people are irritated when I hum what I am hearing.

  • Does the humming sometimes result in a pain? ;)

  • i constantly have music going through my head, but ive also been a musician since i was 12 & im now 26. i started with guitar, then started messing around with bass, & when i was around 20 i started to play the drums. i've taught myself how to play all of the instruments on my own & im currently a drummer in a metal band. my guitarist and i were saying how it was wierd that i cant remember shit, but can hit random drums & cymbals fast as hell in an exact sequence over & over with out messing up

  • yes all the time

  • Yes. Almost all the time.

  • All the time. In fact, this morning I woke up singing Bordin's Polovetsian Dances.

  • Yes, almost all the time unless I'm asleep

  • yes- who is the artist of the song at the beginning of the song

  • yes

  • yes

  • I still stand by this thinking.

By the way: If you'd like, I will have our company, RichContent broadcast this with much more reach. If you have a thesis outline and/or article or press release, we'll get that distribution as well (you can do a quick Google search or check my bio here).

This is important work. Let me know if me or my team or associates can help.

    Best of succes,

    ME

  • YES! Absolutely.

I was once interviewed for a video on "what are the 3 critical ingredients to business success?"

    My favorite answer?

Work and live to a soundtrack -- that insistent song in your head that drives you to move.

Please connect with me. I'd like to help.

  • YES! What's awfull is when I don't even like the song

  • Yes, but not to often.

    Thanks.

  • Interesting research.

    My answer = YES.

the frequency of the earworms during the day?

    3, 4 times a day.

    somedays earworms simply dont go.

i think this is a desire to be playing that song , cause i am a musician!

  • yes...in fact the reason I found your video was to help me get a song OUT of my head!

What interesting research you're doing...good luck with it.

  • yes.

I have music in my mind every now and then. Not all the time though.

Would love to read about the actual results of the whole researchproject actually so pls contact my youtubeaccount. Would be much appreciated since i am studying musicology myself.

  • YES! I have a phonographic memory/audio-visual synaesthesia, and with that comes an endless playlist in my head. Most of the time it's tolerable

  • Yes. Right now, of course, I'm repeating the melody that you were humming.

  • yes lol

  • yes

  • Yes :D

  • I always have hollowed be thy name by iron maiden

  • Yes, it's always the Rick Roll'd song, or some other song I hate.

  • yes i hear music in my mind

  • yes

first song a hear in the begging of the day will stuck in my head

    >.>

  • yep, not all the time but alot of the time

  • Yes: too much probably!

  • In a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, "The Boy Who Hated Girls," one character is a music teacher who hears music in his head almost constantly, so much so that it often drowns out the words of people who are speaking to him. This has happened to me on occasion. I'd say THAT's too much, wouldn't you?

  • yeah i do then again it comes from my headphones but yeah it does even without them

  • yes, changes but comes from surprising places

  • If you mean things like Disney themes, tv themes, commercial jingles and show tunes mixed with heavy metal and church music, I get that too. ;)

  • Yes....music always playin up there :)

  • Yes, most of the time it's a few songs i've put together in my head to make one awsome song though. It's probably because I don't listen to a songs lyrics except if it's the chorus though lol.

  • yes! once a friend and i were doing some work outside... all of a sudden we started singing the same part of the same song. so the song was playing in both of us at the same time. it was awesome!

  • Yes, I do most of the time.

  • yes, i do

  • yeah and that zombie song been stuck in my head for like 3 days no joke and now i think i have a headach because of it

  • Yup!

    Happens often...especially during school ;-)

  • yes a lot . not all the time .

  • Yes o.0

  • umm eff yes

  • yes, not just songs, but people stick in my head too...like you Mike, you stick in my head. :-)

  • OK, seems like you must know me beyond this video. But, regardless, that makes the third "No" response in a row.

  • Oh, wait, after reading that again it's a "Yes" reply, people AND songs stick in your head. Maybe I should make another survey video asking who different songs make you think of besides the singer/composer.

  • I replied yes. this is your favorite Penny. See you in a few hours.

  • I thought so. Seeya.

  • For me its kind kind of on the no but a little on the yes side. Sometimes i think of music but alot of the times i dont. it just depends on the day

  • sometimes, yes, but mostly a replay of events, not music.

  • Not sure if that qualifies as a yes or no answer.

    Seems like a no.

    Could be a yes...

  • yes!!!

  • yes

  • yes

  • yes

  • Yes

  • yes

  • NO.I do hear voices though.

They tell me to burn things.

  • oh yes! all the time

  • Yes

  • YES

Obviously not all the time though. Here's a challenge, try listening to strange music that you wouldn't normally listen to--i.e. folk music from Cambodia--and see if after a certain amount of time your brain has mastered it enough to give you an 'ear worm'.

  • yes, especially after i have listening to it.

  • No, not really. Sometimes I do, though, but it's usually out of my mouth before I know it.

  • yeah i do and the song depends on my mood....happy sad p***** or hyper

  • yes, most of time

  • yup

  • Yes

  • Yes

  • Yes. it makes it difficult to remember other songs while songs r playing in my head. But sometimes i dont hear anything in my head.

  • yeah most of the time.

  • YES i do, and my brain tunes vary on my mood. like if i'm feeling intense or hyped,"points of authority" by linkin park wil play automatically

  • yes, and as bebe said it comes outta nowhere. and it wont leave even if i hate the type of music

  • yes

  • Yes...whoever says no is lying!!!

  • yes

  • Yes...music is in my head, sometimes it just comes out of noyhing and you want to stop but you cant!

  • Yes, but this same question different form always bothers me... "Do you hear your thoughts in your head? Or is it just a figment of your memory speaking to you as you think it?" It's confusing. :P

  • i usually see my thoughts written out, or in pictures. i only "hear" my thoughts if i'm recalling a conversation, noise, song, etc (even then it's generally subtitled though)...

  • Yes

    Music is my religion :P

  • Yes sorry bout the last one i didnt wait til the end so didnt hear u say post yes first

  • i always do yanno... accept it tends to be a song i dislike

  • Yes, almost 24/7. That's why I have an iPod. Whenever it's stuck in my head, I just go listen to it. Great device. Go buy one.

  • I'm on my second iPod already. Traded the 40 Gig 1st gen in for a lightweight 2 Gig nano. Also bought iPods for everyone in the family last Christmas! (Except for the dog. I wonder if he hears music in his head...)

  • yes sometimes its completly random music when i wake up & im sitting there eatin breakfast & i hear that song later in tyeh day its weird or on a dif note i think of an episode of a tv show& i see it later on that day

  • yes. i always have music in my head...and i hate the songs!!!!!!!!

  • Yes totally sometimes its annoying! lol

  • maybe. it depends on what i did that day

  • Yeah, most of the time music I like, just sometimes there are these stupid songs that just won't go out of my head ;)

  • yes... most deff...

  • YES! AND ALWAYS MUSIC I LOVE

  • Yes

  • Yeh, but its always music i HATE!!!!!!

  • yep, quite often

  • yeah, strangely enough!i never thought about that before

  • yes

  • yes most of the time, but annoyingly its always the stupid little tune or song i hate the most at that time

  • Yes all the time it never ever stops

  • 17. Music plays in my head when my hamster is in the mood to play a gig, but i guess on the most part my hamster is running in the spinning wheel trying to process sumthin- like porn or boring math.

  • yes, most of the damn time.

  • No, I do not usually have music in my head.

I usually am thinking about something instead of hearing music in my head, but sometimes if I'm bored or walking from one place to another, which is when I'll usually hear it, I'll have music in my head.

  • Often, but mostly just simple lines from random songs..

  • Yes, all the time, even if i don't know what song it is there's still somthing going on in there, kinda like elevator music

  • Yes right now you give love a bad name by bon jovi

  • yes, but not allways, just lots of times. especialy if i like the song. but lots of times if im doing math or something other than nothing, i might be humming or haveing a song in my head. and i might even be talking and have a song in my head, just depends a lot if i like the song or not. lol happens to me a lot with the song zombie.

  • yes

  • I'd say about half the time.

  • Usually random loops of simple melodies. Latin frequently.

  • I don't generally have music in my head. There's a lot of other junk floating around in there. When I do get music in my head I sing it out loud as to not trap it.

  • No, I don't have music all the time. I usually have some sort of strange, comedy, scenario playing out in my head.

    NickyNik

  • YES ALL THE TIME NICE QUESTION

  • Music playing in my head "most" of the time would seem to me to be quite a bit of music. So I answer No. Maybe I'm just not good at running two channels of thought at the same time. I'm usually thinking about *something*, however insignificant it might be. I like music but having it in my head most the time would crowd out too many other thoughts.

  • No, looks like I'm a minority. I rarely get a song stuck in my head, unless it's really annoying. There are too many other voices in there to play music. (JokeMaster)

  • Yes. The voices won't stop. The volume is too high. Can't turn them off. Please send help. Can't get "Sugar Shack" off my mind.

  • Yes

  • I think your right Mike most of us have music playing in our heads. When GOD created us he created us to praise HIM and worship HIM to have a relationship. I think that it is kind of hard to express ones self towards another without a little movement (Salsa good!). Remember the first dance. an expression of reaching out to that person. To honor her. Some people like to keep the music in their head, now a days because of the damn thoughts that running wild they why they where created.

  • Yes

  • Yeah yeah yeah - yeahhhh!

  • Yes!
