Once you have used Eneloop you never want to use any other batteries again. Imagine a car that leaks fuel and every time you want to take a ride the tank of this car is empty. That's how other rechargeables behave after some time. But not so Eneloops. Thank you, Sanyo!

The principle is indeed the same: NiMH with low self-discharge.
Unlike other types of NiMH, Eneloop has the advantage that they kan have up to 1000 charge-discharge cycles.
