Hello, I find this exercise sends pain down my straight leg. I Have a hard time getting the leg straight and I am unable to keep the leg straight for more than five minutes without the pain becoming intolerable. I have arthritis in my hips and do the hip routine outlined in the book, but this exercise hurts.
@905andy the first thing I would do to modify this exercise is to begin with the straight leg up off the floor (either at the top of the "tower" or on the second step of a small step latter. after 5-10 minutes there try lowering the leg to the floor. It is very important for you hips to be able to handle the range of motion this position requires. Sounds like for you we need to introduce the range of motion more gradually.
@palmbeachegoscue I have been doing the exercise with the foot of the straight leg on two pillows. 1/2 hour each leg along with the other three exercises described in the section on hip pain. I have been told to get a surgeon for my hips by one doctor even though I am only 50 years old. This will be my last resort. I feel pain in my left hip pretty much each step I take. I wish there was a closer clinic to Niagara Falls.
@905andy If you don't have a tower yet it would be a good idea to invest in one. It sounds like you really could use some help. have you thought about sending us some pictures or seeing someone on skype or ichat? We've been doing more and more of this kind of therapy as the technology has improved. If nothing else start with the pillows stacked higher and every 5-10 minutes try to lower the straight leg. you need to get it to the floor WITHOUT pain.

We've been doing more and more of this kind of therapy as the technology has improved.
