Meg is awful. I won't deny that she only learned relatively recently, or that the band is really about Jack; I will say though that her skills as a drummer are mediocre at very best. There are many, many high school jazz drummers who would blow her out of the water. Her barely passable ability to play the drums is a slap in the face of every drummer out there trying to make a name for themselves doing something they excel at. She can't even separate the high hat and snare/bass on most songs.
@MrLagcore, She could do all those things yes, but she was an integral part the reason Jack started The White Stripes. She was just what he envisioned for a partner drummer and we all know everything Jack touches turns to gold. Meg came alive with Jack the The Stripes experience. I don't really think you get all that in the way it was so be happy with the amazing music they put out and don't criticize what you don't understand. Jus sayin. xo

As a guitar player very new to guitar and even newer to learning songs by ear, I'm glad to see Jack using a whammy pedal for the higher notes in this song. It's really hard trying to play stuff on the 20th fret and whatnot.
I don't know if this has already been said but this song could very easily be played with 2 guitars (mainly the beginning) but the fact that it's not makes it that much better and makes Jack even more of a legend.

those supro guitars have the neck and the pick ups sitting right on top of the guitar body rather than in pockets like most guitars...........I have one from 1960 that is sort of les paul shaped deal [ red] with the single cut away and the body is really heavy.

Playing simply to fit the song--playing for the song--is one thing. Check out Gadd's drumming on Car Was Blues--or about a million others--I don't think he hits a crash cymbal once. But, playing simply because that's all you can do, is another. She can play a steady beat, but so can can my washing machine. But, I think even my off-kilter washing machine plays with my groove. God she's aweful.

People need to shut up about Meg. She isn't the most technical drummer yes, but for fans of garage rock music - being a great drummer isn't about technicality at all. She's minimalist and it is what defines the music as bluesy and raw.
That's the whole point of the band.

Just because the beats in the White Stripes' songs are simple doesn't mean she isn't capable of more. It's the style of music, and quite frankly, it fuckin rocks. She keeps rhythm, and I play, keeping a steady bass going really takes some concentration. It isn't that easy. She's damn good.
Correct, but the fact that she's never demonstrated more skill than that of an amateur means she doesn't compare to the likes who have. You can like the style of music and her contribution without saying she's a really good drummer, suggesting she's better than other professionals. What she does is extremely easy for experienced drummers. What Danny Carey or Carter Beauford do is difficult/really takes concentration-I suggest you compare the three.
Meg White complements Jack's guitar playing better than anyone else can. She's not the greatest drummer by far, but she is the one for him, because she anticipates his sound and plays to him. That's what makes them so great.

It's not about if she's on a technical par with Neal Pert or Alex Van Halen-- clearly she doesn't have those kind of monster drum chops-- it's about if she's an EFFECTIVE drummer playing licks appropriate to support the music. She is.

@aurlis2012 I agree, she does what she does very well and doesn't seem to feel the need to add flash with a huge kit that she barely touches like most rock drummers.
Not to mention the timing connection between Meg and Jack is awesome, even when Jack gets all crazy and chaotic she keeps the whole thing on beat.

Not glam. No way. Glam is lovely makup, teased hair with buckets of hairspray, tight skimpy leather clothing, mascara, other makeup.
The guys from X Japan did not do any of that. Okay, maybe Taiji at one point, but they did not do any of that shit. They looked as if they came from hell, which suits the songs Kurenai and Silent Jealousy pretty well, in terms of speed.
And then ofcourse that Dir en Grey didn't rip anyone off. They are both different. X Japan only did Visual Kei because of Taiji. Hide kept his style, but the others parted from Visual Kei.

Jack white is one of the worlds best and slightly under-rated guitar players! And meg does some simple beats, but that is one of the defining elements to the white stripes--- simplicity --i really hope they come up with some new stuff, im really tired of the racontours and the dead weather-- that is all

Obviously not the best drummer, like most people would say. But those who claim she is the best, don't know much about drumming. Not being a dick but, I like to see some rudiment work. She's good at what she plays.
PS: Aurliz2012, Fuck you too =]. I'm a metal/groove/jazz/hiphop/rock drummer, and I'll tell you Speed + Control = HARD, trust me there's more to drumming that just rhythm, so much more, not saying that speed rules, try finding a drummer with feel, Benny Greb much? Meg White = Boner!

Not to mention the timing connection between Meg and Jack is awesome, even when Jack gets all crazy and chaotic she keeps the whole thing on beat.

First of all, i only gave an example of a good drummer that can keep a good beat to fast music.
Secondly......
Not glam. No way. Glam is lovely makup, teased hair with buckets of hairspray, tight skimpy leather clothing, mascara, other makeup.
The guys from X Japan did not do any of that. Okay, maybe Taiji at one point, but they did not do any of that shit. They looked as if they came from hell, which suits the songs Kurenai and Silent Jealousy pretty well, in terms of speed.

And then ofcourse that Dir en Grey didn't rip anyone off. They are both different. X Japan only did Visual Kei because of Taiji. Hide kept his style, but the others parted from Visual Kei.
