Star Trek Online Goes Free To Play? Surprised? Nope.

I'm a FTP player, been playing for a few weeks now. The only thing i didnt like at first was i level'd really fast.. hit level 50 on both my fed, and klingon in under 2 weeks. And so at first i was like "well..this is a bit too easy" and yes, leveling is easy.. but getting the better gear, thats the tough part. I have the KHG MK XI set, but its been taking for ever to get the XII upgrades.. and my fed is still only using the borg tech. Altho i do use a retrofit defiant, tough little ship :P

haha funny as hell, the population is going crazy on it now ive been in a few login qeues, some land missions are better than others, the only thing they really need to fix is that the klingon faction isnt quite complete

I've played Star Trek Online for a few days now, and it's actually of the better mmos I've played. Apparently, they've revamped a ton of stuff since release, like the ground combat(which I kinda like)and added quite a few features like the dilithium as a way to earn cryptic points, and Duty Officers that you can log in and send on missions that last a couple of real time hours and give you small amounts of exp and recources

As long as they keep adding content I'll probably play it on and off :)

ftp version is awesome then again they used two of the company's who now how to deal with ftpers

criptics restrictions weren't bad but together with perfect world one of the best (in my opinion) free to play game company in the world i am a huge fan of both criptic and perfect world international

and that you CAN get stuff the ptpers can use also with mithril(or something like that dont now how to spell that ) point is they changed allot and i give this game a 9/10

yo yo, it just went live. i beta tested this. i gotta be totally honest. this game is already dead. they got maybie 3000 for the f2p launch. that is... pooooooor. but more importantly is the fact that you can level from 1 to 50 in less than a week, and many claim that it can be done in a single day. no new content for almost a year, the lack of klingon content, lack of endgame content (dont even get me started about shitty stf's.),

this game is dead. i give it 6-12 months to live. tops

@WTFAlexandra SWTOR kind of sucks. It's a good one player experience but not worth much else. Bioware spent WAY too much money on voice overs and not enough on in-game systems, and VO's will never be sustainable which will disappoint a lot of people I am sure.

its consist & Progammend only fans themselves. There are great people to sabotage this game with joy. Fans will continue to play it.

Got a months gametime, costumes, some other stuff and 400 points to use in their c-store The preorder off Amazon, the one with the t-shirt, borg bridge officer, red matter capacitor, postcards and map was £18. I got about 3 months free gametime with that one.

F2P does have it's initial problems but they are working on balancing those issues out. Overall i have to say they are doing a great job on revamping everything. Love the Doff system, the progression and the vet rewards.

A good idea would be if there was a loyalty bonus to subscription models, if you subscribe for 12 months, it will get cheaper by a dollar, every year. 2011=$9.99 2012=$8.99 until it gets as low as $2.99 but by that point the game will have likely lived out it's time, anyway. It may help retain people.

I hope Planetside 2 does this i plan to stick around in that for a long time :)

Korean got particularly heavy in that focus of gaming.

Suddenly, there were 1000x more MMOs than there were the year before, growing faster and faster.

Competition became fierce, since MMOs have to get a large player base to actually work and the amount of games were growing faster than the player base.

To get gamers to populate these games, f2p models became popular.

Now it's the only way to function.
