@analogspam nice one, thanks for that-just wondered though-that was neil young ohio? what does the pedal sound like to you in the room?the harmonies sounded really effective to me but like you said the quality is lost on y-tube,i wasnt sure if the pedal was going flat/sharp at some parts.,,would you be so kind as to tell me if the pedal is as good as i think it is -or do you think its a gimmick?i posted here coz easier to reply:)
@SuperKinevil the harmonies sound quite fine, especially in a band mix set lower than the lead vocal. it stays in pitch pretty well (as good as the singer who it follows). it's not a gimmick, it works and does a lot of things pretty well for one pedal.
So, i'm hoping to operate the vocoder through a keyboard. I have an SM58, a keyboard, and an amp. would these work in combination with the voice box, or do i need anything else?
Vocoders aren't hard, they just require some understanding. Do your research before you buy or make one so you know if its what you really want. My experience has been that it takes a ton of setting up and finagling to get the sound you heard in your head or on the radio. AND " I have a BS degree in Computer Science but I went analog 10 years ago" is a great lyric
I dont know if you are familiar with the digitech Talker. Is this similar to that? I have a video of me using one if you want to see, but i sold it and want it back, or something similar. Do you control the harmonies you want ? or does it choose them for you? the digitech works like a vocoder where the notes you play are the harmonies, and i like it that way. Also, it has a great robotic sound and is very intelligeble, unlike vocoders. Can you tell me if this is like a Digitech Talker? thanks
I owned this and personally I hated the harmony effects but the vocoder was awesome. Kind of makes me regret selling it. I may have the buy the V256 to compensate :)
In the other video for this thing. They said you could use the midi as an input. Would you need anything special to make it function only with a key board?
Amp's not the best way, it's for guitar. Use real PA to get best sounds out of it. Of course you can use it throught amp but it doesn't sound as good :)
I don´t understand.... Are you singing trough a mic and then the vocoder. Or is the guitar sound trough the vocoder what i´m listen to? And if so how come when you play guitar it says good bye blue sky?
Keyboards will work just like a guitar with this box. that will be fine for the box to figure out the harmonies or for a source for the vocoder sounds.
Would having a Guitar Synth enhance the sounds on this? Would having one be an advantage for more sounds? I dont play keyboard but my guitar skills are decent. I watch the video with Nick Conte and the young lady singing and I see him using a keyboard synth. Im just wondering if I can go down the guitar synth route since Im more accustomed to that instrument. Thanks everyone!!!!
hey is the EH similar to the talk box? Because the talk box is so frustrating to set up and I was thinking about buying this EH voice box, just want to know if the set up is easy, what do I need to make it work?
I also have the TC Helicon Voice G. it's a bit too fancy in the harmonies for rock, the EH picks better notes. But the TC has some effects (reverb and echo) that I thought I would use, but not a lot of flexibility on the effects. The other TC features don't seem so great either, I may go back to the EH. And the EH has the talk box and vocoder which the TC cannot do.
You don't need an instrument, but then it can't calculate what key you are playing in. You can still do octaves but not other harmonies which need to be calculated.
sir, could you pls show me how you use this voice box without using any instrument. i wanna see how this thing work without it. really appreciate ur help :)
Sorry I don't have time for that demo. But you can use the octave settings without an instrument and you will hear octave harmonies. OCTAVES MODE will work.
can the voice box match harmony when the guitar is playing straight chords and you want to independently sing a melody in the same key? or do you have to play the melody you want to sing on guitar?
If I run a distorted guitar into this, using the harmony-mode, would my voice be distorted as well? Would it work if I wanted to play a distorted guitar and sing a clean vocal to get harmonies out of this thing?
it would sound better on a synthpad or in Vocal Harmony Mode (which this box does beautifully!!) without distortion. This sounds more like Bryan Adams with Laryngitis
This is vocoder mode, I like lots distortion on the vocoder to sound best. For harmony modes it does not matter if you have distortion on the guitar, the vocals are always clean.
Yes a keyboard with 2 normal 1/8" plug cables and an instrument amp will work for that part. Then you need a mic and 2 mic XLR cables and a vocal amp for the 2nd part.
So obviously both signals pass trough this, umm does the signals stay separated? or the mic signal bleed to the guitar amp and the guitar line to the PA?
The signals stay separated. there are two outputs, an XLR output for the mic and a normal 1/4" guitar output for the guitar. The guitar sound is never modified, only the mic sound coming out of the XLR is modified.
Like it! Almost as good as "Man-Woman" using the SynthAmp - Oooof!

instead of running the mic lead in to a mixer could i run the voice box in to my loop station?
f1d2s3a4 2 years ago
The mic runs to the input of the voice box, the voice box vocal output runs to a PA.
the guitar runs to the VB and the VB guitar out runs to your guitar amp.
You can put the loop station between the VB and your guitar amp or even between the VB and PA I guess but the vocal output uses an XLR cable.

the guitar signal is only analyzed for harmony mode for the notes you play, does not matter what the sound is, the vocals will always be clean.
