  • I thought that was pretty cool, actually...

  • LOL, the ending quote "Now I gotta Hike out here! That sucks...". So true though, thats usually the thought when lugging your gear up a mountain and having to come back down.

  • My scout master was a former army ranger and his predecessor( his son) a former navy seal. I feel like I was in capable hands while learning survival skills

  • Nutn, I have been a big supporter of your videos for a long time and agree with a lot of what you have to say. That being said, talking about us eagle scouts as if we're all morons is a douche comment.

  • Really survival - you have a WD-40. Then you could use it for making fire - just spray and no need for making that shitty sticks.

  • it' actually easier to pull the ferrocium rod away from the scraper because you will not knock your tinder away with the scraper

  • Really liked your WD40 use--didn't think of that. Thanks!

  • @BiGStackZ713 No one prepares to survive, to bushcraft yes but survive no and it's good to have backups I've heard of people that buy packs of bic lighters and carry 1 in there pocket/pack/ and a extra but they also carry a flint or two

  • good demo - nice tip re: WD40 ;)

  • what are your thoughts on newspaper? would you reccomend just bringing along a few sheets of newspaper?

  • why wood u use wd-40 to lub your knive for? what if you have gut game for food?

  • @Dariusreaper1 He brings multiple knives, he wouldnt be using his huge survival knife to skin a deer

  • why would anybody pack a flint starter? if your prepared to go survive wouldnt you bring a lighter?

  • @BiGStackZ713 lighters fail very easily and if its windy its very hard to keep the flame lit to light tinder.

  • @enoughraptor6 whatever happened to napalm ...

  • @BiGStackZ713 What do you do when the butane runs out? Then you will wish you had that flint starter that will start hundreds to thousands of fires.

  • ive never seen so much hard work going into one bloody fire !!!

  • *wered

  • Where'd u get the black ka-bar heavy Bowie

  • sound effects are awesome! lol! Wham!

  • what's the best way to tell if a tree is dead?

  • @HugeWangPiece scratch at the bark or maybe cut into the wood a little if its green or really moist its not dead

  • @hidan227 Awesome, thanks a bunch!

  • @HugeWangPiece no problem hombre

  • a big blade is so much nicer than a axe :D

  • Good video mate, but WD40 is a solvent. Does it discolour the blade on the Ka-Bar at all?

  • A gond vele ha van WD-40 miért nem avval gyújt tüzet? :-)

A WD-40-es kést nagyon nehéz tisztítani avval hogyan eszik?

  • @cesmith777 and all the other axe guys out there...Nutn says in many videos that axes aren't altogether bad, and if that's what you prefer, more power to you. He simply states that it's 1) more realistic that one would have a survival knife out on a day hike than lugging a big axe all over, not to mention far fewer calories/energy to use, and 2) Pretty much everyone knows how to use an axe. Not too many people know how to make a fire with a knife, so he's demonstrating the lesser-known info.

  • "Now I gotta hike outta here...That sucks." lmao. <3 TNP! Great as info or even just a nature experience when you can't get out yourself. Nutn, don't worry about the trolls. Just laugh at them. They're just jealous you're popular and they're nothing, and that you have the vids that they don't to back up your words.

  • i use the BK-K-bar with a 9in blade its a great knife and i have batoned through a rick of wood and built two spider shelters and have not had a problem with it yet. the only thing i had to do was tighten the handle screws, but a little lock tight cures all. i paid a $100.00 for it at AG Russel in Rogers AR. K-BAR all the way!!

  • it's clear , the only purpose of this video is to advertise those knives ....

  • @mmacburt ........you have to be joking !!! .....i'm at 6:11 and he has said it about 100 times already !!! that 's a good one !!! hahahahah !!!

  • i like those glove..where can i found? thanks....

  • This is what ive been searching for!

  • Man, Nutn wasn't lying when he said all the haters had NO videos lol. I really like that K-Bar. It looks like it is shredding through the wood. I leave in the south east and tend to use an ESEE 6. I may wind up trying out the K-BAr. For some reason I cannot make myself love a Cold Steel fixed Blade. They feel a bit cheap compared to an ESEE or a K-Bar

  • Nutn I may have missed it somewhere in your thousand video's/comments. But why not a hand axe for a survival situation along with a survival knife? you can use the back head as your hammer/baton and the axe can be used to cut kindling far easier than using a knife to split.

  • do you have any military training because im joining the air force and my mos is SERE and yur videos are kinda helpful

  • You can carry some steel wool pads in your back pack to light your fire faster & better with the firestarter flint.

  • Nutnfancy, Great video! Im starting to produce a video that actually shows an eagle scout building a fire in Harsh conditions so i can prove to you were hardcore! Just waiting on some snow.....

  • Good Vid-FYI, I'm an Ast Scoutmaster. Eagles are not required to have the survivalist merit badge. That is an elective merit badge. The camping merit badge witch is required is basic camping skills. Our goal is to build well rounded citizens, not survivalists. We just happen to use nature as a canvas as we teach and grow them. Thanks for the vid...keep em coming.

  • Good stuff. Gonna have to find one of those knives ;) c

  • survival ? and you have a big saw and WD-40 ? just get out your chainsaw and cut that wood !!!

  • I apologize for all of the immature comments made about this video... Knowing how to start a fire by splitting wood is at times the only way to get a fire going in wet conditions... my only recommendation would be to have scrapped the fat wood with your knife at a 90 degree angle in order to get a nice pile of tinder in order to feed your shavings... Overall, nice video...Southeast School of Survival

  • chuck norris rubs 2 indians together for this

  • I've made fires using fallen wood from the forest floor (twigs, limbs, unsplit logs etc.) and the timber always burns entirely, leaving only a pile of fine grey ash. My question is: in comparison to that method, will a fire made with 'processed' wood burn longer or quicker?

  • dude just use a lighter ??? :D

  • ohh man 3:36 made me laugh

  • Scrape your fatwood with the spine of your knife, and you will get maya dust. won't take muck of your fatwood to get that fire started.

  • I have a really bad knife and brought down a smaller tree, maybe 8-15 years old tree or something, not sure of the type but it was 2 times my height.

would be goo enough for survival, all you need is bark inside the fire, small wood on that and bigger wood on top to light a nice fire.

of course the bark has to be dry though... might be a prob if it has been raining.

  • F**k it men.. you really need to have dummy accounts to get to me?

fu** grow up. you cant even do a proper fire come on!!!!!

i'll just buy u a diaper. then maybe u'll groww up

  • you will waste more energy chopping the sticks than what you will get in return from the fire

oh and dont use wd40 use spray cooking oil it has better lube . as wd40 is for displacing water nothing else

  • you will waste more energy chopping the sticks than what you will get in return from the fire

  • Do you prefer the Kabar heavy bowie or the standard kabar fighting knife? They both cost about the same.

  • Do you prefer the Kabar heavy bowie or the standard kabar fighting knife? They both cost about the same.

  • Do you trike in?

  • really Man 15 min. to start a fire you must be gay telling every body that you need to take your own wood to the woods man i can do what you did in one min. and i do not need to take any thing but flint and steel plus you payed 12$ for that i payed 4 from bimart and mine is 4 oz lol you suck !!!!

  • Come to Sweden, and we scouts will have a bonfire going before you're finished choosing knife! ;)

  • I don't understand why you're wasting energy cutting up kindling when it's all over the woods. If it's wet then yea I could see it. Also just cutting nice 2 foot pieces of wood in general. Wastes worlds of energy when you can just start halving logs by burning them or feeding them in from one end into the fire. I see a ton of videos on Batoning when I've always had success the lazy way.

  • tough stuff!

  • Why are you guys assholes to nutn hes a beast if i hang to bugout and grab a few people he would be one of them.

  • Thanks, I was trying to decide between the Heavy Bowie and an Ontario Marine Raider, You got me sold on the Ka-bar. Keep making these great vids!

  • @windstormice24 Well, make a video showing that. Duh. -- Veri

  • @windstormice24 Not at all, I just want you to STFU and make your own video, instead of trying to direct Nutn's.. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy haha nice

  • @nutnfancy Veri, I love to see you defend Nutn, I can't understand why people like to armchair quarterbqck. Nutn, walks the walk. 909 vids in the TNP so far. These people should be thanking him for his effort, even if they don't like or agree with his techniques (which I can say are sound, as i lived in the Colorado Rockies for 15 years and have much experience in wilderness self reliance), It just drives me nuts when idiots that don't back up their B.S. "Oh, I can do this better."

  • @nutnfancy hey nutnfancy, just curious what kind of gloves do u use when ur cutting/ batoning wood with knives

  • @windstormice24 Dude, I don't think nutnfancy has anything new to learn from the likes of you. Put up or shut up.

  • Also, your philosophy on bushcraft is all fucked up. It's not some kind of special secret knowledge to be hoarded up, it should be shared with absolutely everyone who's interested.

  • @cujo55544 Oops, that was @windstormice24

  • @nutnfancy well said brother well said

  • @windstormice24 "none sense" is one word : nonsense

  • @windstormice24 2 words prove it

  • @windstormice24 and this isnt a simple knife? its a freaking sharpened peice of steel with a handle smart ass.

  • Nice toothpicks.

  • Nutnfancy, you should check out the Exotac NanoSTRIKER it's a cool little Firesteel.

  • what brand is that roach belly knife?

  • @kochesstriker9 cold steel, great knife

  • how to make fire if i dont have that wal mart stuff?

  • holly shit anyone see the size of that earthworm in 12:15

  • 12:00 DO YOU SEE THAT BUG IN THE BACKGROUND OMFG

  • A tip is to drag the flint up, and not push the steel down.

That way you don`t hit your fatwood ;)

  • oh..i learned something..sharp edges are burning better? never knew that. Even after felling x trees, and burning them at home

  • @Raz0rking Yup, sharp edges increase surface are as opposed to square or round logs. the more surface area you present to a heat source, the faster and more efficiently it ignites and sustains a flame.

    Be safe and shoot straight,

    Tyler

  • buying highly flamable wood .... And using a flint.... not exactly survival. Just buy some lighters.

  • So everybody needs a roachbelly? Alright then I pick one up!

  • thanks for sharing nutn!

  • as far as knee pads go, good idea IMHO, saves your knee's from the stresses of kneeling. This vid should have been titled a "One log fire challenge" would be more apt.

  • i apreaciate your reviews, theyre very helpful to me and my friends

  • "Tree fallin' in the distance, had to make sure it wasn't a deer". If it was, would you have tackled it? ;) lol

but seriously, all the people saying Nutn doesn't know what he's talking about obviously don't know what THEY'RE talking about.

  • Put piece of wood onderneath the wood you cut it reduce amount of energy required for cutting atc.....Anyway,if you want to do this effective and safe...use survival AXE.

  • This what you do is dangerous.People don't try this at home, you will probably cut or break your fingers of.You won't finde too much log previously sawn in the wilderness.Knife is not meant for this purpose,It can break or bend(as long as you have other choice don't use for cutting wood like this). Also it can get stuck in piece of log and you might get hurt trying to get him out.If you are in situaton that you must cut the wood make sure you don't do that on soft ground.

  • @bwhsamick Do you care an ax with you everywhere? I care a few knives with me everywhere. I have done the same things to my knives and never had a fail. Be careful, wear gloves and have a good first aid kit. The man knows his stuff. Learning from him is easy, but you need to apply what you learn.

  • @srvvlhm Well.I among other times i spend in the nature I use to spend one month at see each year in a hut without any urban comforts, water, electricity etc.Tools I used most of the times were in the first place hatchet, medium size knife and shovel. It is not cos I wanted that way it was because situation demanded.I have only notice it.Nutnfancy down't know how to use and how chose an axe and he admit that on one of his posts about using an axe.And then he say to other ppl don't use it.

  • @srvvlhm Let me illustrate. He probably thought that using ax and hatchet are same things which are not.He took splitting axe and he try to cut a log. Also he pick ax with some kind of fiberglass material not having in mind would that be difficult to replace if you are not close to home in case it breaks. That gives me idea that he don't go far from home as well. Not to mention how wrong he work with it.No wonder he needs knee caps and gloves.

  • @bwhsamick ,most people i have spoken to really living in the wild are not doing this batoning thing. They just put wood in the fire that's lying allaround. Why splitting it.You only need a little dry wood to get a fire started. There is no sence to this endless batoning Nutnfancy always seem to do.And yes a hatchet/axe is the better tool for chopping up big pieces of wood.Machetes are good for jungles.Axes for northern woods

  • @555Nato yeah, you only really need 10 pencil sized split wood to get it going, then twigs and thin brnches will work.

  • @ToddIngram1000 ,yeah, that's what the guys told me also who lived in forests for longer periods.I don't know what's this thing with clubbing large (unwieldy) knives through thick pieces of wood.Everybody 's gotta have a hobby I guess.

  • In a survival situation you probably won't have most of that shit, c'mon show a little realism. Not trying to dog on you or anything just saying go for a more minimalist approach

  • @foxesrequiem yea for real ....lol he most have a good job hes always got fancy gear ... in survival situation you never have a flint or fat wood ......unless your was a fortune teller and seen this in a vision.

  • @ALIENKINGX7 or you carry it around (the flint) as i do. even at school

  • @foxesrequiem Don't leave the house without the proper gear. Then you will be ready for anything.

  • Ovaj covek nema pojma ,

  • GOOD THING YOU GOT THE FLINT, HERE WANNA SEE ME MAKE ONE WITH MY LIGHTER?

  • Riddle: If a tree falls in the woods can Nutnfancy hear it?

    Answer: You bet your ass.

  • nice vid man i realy enyoy watching it but i wonder if it realy comes to it how long can a man survive with the right tools i think i wont last a week even with the right tools.

  • hey whats a good sheath to get for the kabar heavy bowie because i've read reviews about how the one it comes with isn't very good.

  • That was some nice battoning

  • love the sound effects. keep the videos coming.

  • @jinnaraka says the guy watching the firemaking tutorial

  • nice kabar,

  • @misterfilmguy what arrogance are you speaking of?

  • Hey, that's a cool vid. I would recommend adding a small bit about how to safely make sure a fire is properly extinguished at the end of vids like this one. Just a request from a fellow wilderness lover.

I've built a fair number of fires in the wilderness without matches or lighters, and like how you stress appropriate preparation- that's 99% of the thing right there!

  • klfks

  • I really need to start using sound effects in everyday life haha :D

  • NutnFancy! go go mountain man. Nice vid

  • what does oak look like?

  • @jinnaraka Just let him do what he wants to fucking do! i love his videos, who cares what you want him to do. He will do what he does so stfu!

  • I was like O_o when i heard that log was oak. Damn that's tough wood and one darn good knife!

  • you wasted alot of time and energy into preparation, alot of wasted calories.

  • an easier way of starting a small fire is with twigs, sticks, and some split wood. Also for making a baton you can just set a branch inside a V sitting tree and snap it. Look at hedgehogleatherworks' video on how to make a throwing stick and use that method :)

  • My favorite tinder is cotton balls with magnesium in the middle it lights with one spark and burns hot enough to light wet wood.

  • It´s very difficult to find dry wood like nutn has from walmart, in the wilderness. I tried to make fire with this firestarter lots of times and sometimes it worked but it was never certain. Mostly the almost dry wood was not dry enough.

  • You look.... dangerous...

  • Also, nice kneepads. I didn't know you could roller skate in the woods!

  • @misterfilmguy Don't know about rollerskating in the woods, but he's had multiple operations on his knees and tries to protect them as much as possible during outdoor activities. He'll probably end up getting both knees replaced as he gets older. Take care. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @nutnfancy if you dont mind me asking were did you buy your flint?

  • @bumbacla1 I would guess REI.com Since that is what he said in the video.

  • @nutnfancy I don't have the same problems as NutnFancy but recently suffered a motorcycle accident.

Having had a knee injury, and being of a bushcraft mindset, I took it upon myself to do some research.

Being so mechanically complex, it's vital to look after the knees. They're one of the most load-bearing bodyparts too, so you can't move without 'em. Can't move outdoors? Your dead unless you're in your back yard. I like the kneepads idea. It's smart. Gott'a look after yourself out there!

  • @misterfilmguy

OOOOOOH! His sister told you! I bet you feel like a douche and an asshole both at the same time right now, right?

  • @jacobleb420 I feel pretty awesome, actually. I've trolled a lot in my life, and I've never had a reply from a poster's sister, haha.

  • @misterfilmguy

    LOL!

  • I've seen enough movies to know that when the zombies come, this guy's arrogance will get his whole band of survivors killed.

  • that is a sweet saw on 1:18

  • Comment removed

  • do u have a review on gloves? if not, plz make one

  • Are you using Swedish fire steel fire starter?

  • good job dude dont worry about the haters at least your out there doing it, I am sure someone will find some good stuff in this clip, good luck keep at it,

  • nice knife but large knives bother me, cant do detail work. If you can afford the weight carry a hatchet. but thats just a preference I like to have a 6 inch blade, a multi tool and a hatchet or short handle axe. Im not saying its right im just saying thats what i like to have

  • @jinnaraka also he is showing you how to make a fire and conserve material instead of just trying and trying and trying and tiring yourself out instead of having a fire hes also showing you how to do it in one go its called common sense maybe you should find some

  • thanks for the video Nutn! Used these techniques with my newly acquired KA-BAR BK7. We went to Arches (no gathering or cutting down branches)to camp for the night. Batoned with some store bought pine used some strikefire tinder and instantly had a roaring fire after processing wood for 10 minutes!!! Thanks again for this!!!

  • @jinnaraka Guys like you are desperate for attention. The swastika avatar, the creepy attitude...its all the same "look at me, look at me!" tap dance. You're pathetic, and you're also blocked. Go away. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Thumbs up!

  • @nutnfancy Sorry to interrupt but I think you shouldn't block that guy ! I kinda feel sorry for him ! Maybe he's just harsh and his immaturity cause him to say such ! No judging ! Have a nice day ! :)

  • @nutnfancy tell em whats what!!!

  • @nutnfancy veri, your come backs to toward other peoples nasty comments... totally destroys them. he deleted his account a week after u said that. and this other dude, deleted his only vid. (if u know what i mean)

  • @chrisdeli7158 nice ass kissing

  • @nutnfancy LOL, nice Job Veri, thanks to nutnfancy's knife reviews ive bought a few knives and had no regrets.

  • @nutnfancy u tell em Veri

  • @nutnfancy acount removed his account :), ANOTHER BITES THE DUST AND ANOTHER BLOCKED AND ANOTHER ONE BLOCKED!

  • @nutnfancy

jinnaraka is such an idoit. I love the nutnfancy channel and TNP project. Thank you so much for these treasures of videos and free FYI's and advise. You and yours helped me to endure life's tragedies (flipped car, lost income, massive nerve damage to my broken hip and damaged lower back) and smile enough to enjoy the outdoors and shooting again. - Salud from Sacramento.

  • i.e. is that fat wood? Hey fat wood is natural? I always carried 25 knifes with me and some fat wood and flint. Especially the fat wood that I cut down from a full grown tree to make shims out of the fat wood with my fat wood knife....

  • Just subscribed, love the videos.

Where did nutnfancy get the bowie?

  • bad figure 3:44 xD

  • He shoulda renamed this video "Backpacking survival" because The only real time people are going to be doing "Survival" stuff is In remote areas of the us. Who then are equiped with survival knifes.

  • NUTN, GO WIIIITH THE FLOW, YOU OVER WORK!!! AAAAAAAANNNNNDDDDD USE MODERN GIMICKY GADGETS

  • Fire Tri elements are Air, Fuel. Heat.

Next time I choose to start fire with WD40.

This time u showup hot to cut the wood.

    Btw thanks.

  • Small snake? Earthworm.

  • I would have set up m fire Teepee first, then sparked the ignition on a piece of bark. Once that is lit, you just slide it under the teepee and the whole thing goes up quick.

  • 4:46 "it's about what i thought it'd be. pretty awesome" haha i would hate to be his kid.

  • Nutnfancy would you consider 440 stainless steel to be poor quality for a blade?

  • what irony, like those knee pads. are those survival marine issued 2 . lol

  • I think the sawvivor is weak compared to a Stanley Sharptooth 15" saw. I process a good amount and have found the sawvivor to be a little slow and more energy used with it compared to the Sharptooth. Video is here of me working with it. v=Z0KOkatLqBk

  • @scarefiction i can't remember and my internet is being too shitty to load the video.

  • i love to start fires with corn chips, just freaks people out how well they burn

  • im not even a life yet in scouts and i could start fires in them kind of conditions faster then the eagles in our troop

  • i didn't like this video.

  • is what kind of knife???? thank's

    '
